Here is tonight’s game story, with video and stats. Thanks for reading! Flames defeat Kings 2-1 The Kings are off for a couple days, but there will still be blog activity, so please don’t stray too far…
Murray postgame quotes
Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) MURRAY: “They [the Flames] came out with a real hard, heavy game, a gritty game here today. You take a look at our lineup, and they’re seeing a lot of guys that we’ve called up from the American league, and they want to push us out of the [...]
Greene postgame quotes
Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on going 7-2-1 in this 10-game stretch…) GREENE: “I think right now we’re playing well enough to win every game. It’s one of those situations where it doesn’t matter who is playing for us. We’re getting production from everyone. Elkins comes out and gets his first goal and gets us right [...]
Doughty postgame quotes
Drew Doughty’s postgame thoughts… (on the team’s feeling in the third period…) DOUGHTY: “We felt good. We were obviously disappointed that we let in that goal so early in the third period. You can’t let that happen, but after that I thought we took it to them. Everyone was playing well. We got pucks in [...]
Williams postgame quotes
Justin Williams’ postgame thoughts… (on going 7-3-1 in their last 10…) WILLIAMS: “If you had told us we would go 7-2-1, we’d jump on that. If you go 7-2-1 in any 10-game stretch, you’re going to be first in the league. But we feel we deserved a better fate. It’s too bad. Two tough breaks, [...]
FINAL: Flames 2, Kings 1
The shorthanded Kings nearly got one point from this game, but couldn’t complete the comeback from an early third-period two-goal deficit. More from the locker room ASAP…
Flames 2, Kings 1
The Kings pulled back within one goal with 8:54 remaining in the third period. Oscar Moller, behind the net, centered to Corey Elkins, who had gone strong to the net. Elkins beat Kiprusoff from right in front of the net.
Flames 2, Kings 0
The Kings had great momentum at the end of the second period, but the Flames scored 1:02 into the third period. Daymond Langkow got the puck behind the net and fed a quick centering pass to Nigel Dawes. With Alec Martinez trying to stop up the front of the net, Dawes’ wrist shot beat Quick.
End of second: Calgary 1-0
Shots were even, 11-11, in that period. The Kings held on for dear life at the start of the period, but really carried the play over the last four minutes or so. Calgary is 14-0-1 when leading after two periods this season.
Flames 1, Kings 0
Nine-tenths away from a stalemate period, which would have been a great success, the Kings allowed a goal. Olli Jokinen won the draw and moved the puck to Jarome Iginla, who got it to Dion Phaneuf. Phaneuf’s slap shot beat Quick with 0.9 seconds remaining.
Game chat and notebook
Here we go… Click below to be taken to the new chat! It’s the first day, so if there are any issues, feel free to post them, and the Kings staff will be doing its best to monitor and check for any bugs, etc. I’ll still be posting goal updates, etc., on the blog, but [...]
Game chat tonight
For the final game before the holiday break tonight, how about a live game chat? Actually, the Kings’ Web staff has put together a cool new chat program that we will be able to use all season. Tonight will be the initial test run. A little bit before game time, I’ll post the link to [...]
Olympic Quick?
As discussed a bit yesterday, the Canadian media has discovered Jonathan Quick, both because Quick has been playing well of late and because, on Jan. 1, USA Hockey will announce its Olympic team, and Quick is in strong contention for one of the three goalie spots. Up here, it’s all about the World Juniors and [...]
A long-awaited return
Alec Martinez played his first NHL game on Oct. 3 and now, more than two months later, he will get another crack at it. In between, Martinez suffered a freak ankle injury and, when he finally got healthy, got assigned to Manchester. Now, with Jack Johnson and Randy Jones out of the lineup, Martinez will [...]
Thursday injury report
Here’s the regularly scheduled injury update, as provided by Terry Murray… (on Randy Jones…) MURRAY: “He still has a headache from the collision that he had with Penner in the Edmonton game, so it’s a precautionary move to keep him out and get him back to practice on Monday, hopefully.” (on whether the Kings are [...]
Jones out, Martinez in
Terry Murray said Randy Jones has been suffering from a headache and sore neck, since a hit from Edmonton’s Dustin Penner, and will not play tonight. Murray said Jones has not yet been tested for a concussion. Jarret Stoll will not play tonight, Murray said. More notes and quotes to come…
Morning skate lines
Jarret Stoll and Randy Jones appear to be missing from the morning skate, with the Kings practicing as follows… Frolov-Kopitar-Williams Richardson-Handzus-Brown Parse-Elkins-Harrold Ivanans-Moller-Purcell I’m actually not sure which would be the fourth line there. The defense is Scuderi-Doughty, O’Donnell-Greene, Drewiske-Martinez. Updates to come after the skate…
Finishing strong
Tonight will be the last chance for the Kings to earn points for a while. No matter what happens tonight against Calgary, the Kings will still be in a good position in the Western Conference going into their eight-day break, but therein lies the rub. While the Kings are practicing and relaxing, other teams will [...]
Stoll feature, and notes
As always, I appreciate you reading my stuff on LAKings.com. First, if you’d like to catch up on today’s news and notes, here is today’s notebook: Kings notebook (Dec. 16) Also, my weekly feature is on Jarret Stoll, centering around how Stoll has dealt with his summer diagnosis of arthritis. Jarret Stoll feature If you [...]
Silent contributions
There’s no quieter guy on the Kings than Michal Handzus. Perhaps that, coupled with the fact that he’s not a dynamic scorer or skater, leads to Handzus being an under-the-radar type player. But is it just a coincidence that most everyone Handzus skates with seems to have success? Simmonds? Parse? Richardson and Brown? Today I [...]
