Prospects galore

A couple notes on some guys not yet in the NHL…

– Jonathan Bernier was named yesterday to start the AHL All-Star Game, which will be played Jan. 19 in Maine. Check out that story here.

– Canada beat Slovakia 8-2 yesterday in the World Junior Championships, setting up Thursday’s game against the United States. Brayden Schenn had one goal and one assist and Brandon Kozun assisted on Schenn’s goal.

– For those looking for updates on some of the Kings’ prospects, the website hockeysfuture.com has recently put together some notes on the Kings’ minor-league and junior prospects.

Kings’ junior prospects

– Finally, Canada’s Olympic team will be announced shortly. Right now, they’re debating on TSN whether Drew Doughty will make the team. I’ll likely be on the bus, heading to the morning skate, when the team is announced, but I’ll obviously have quotes from Doughty (and Ryan Smyth) after the skate…

Los Angeles Kings defenceman Sean O’Donnell had a scheduling question.

“When do they name Team Canada?” O’Donnell wondered yesterday, as the Kings were preparing for tonight’s game against the Calgary Flames. Told the announcement would come today at noon (Eastern), just before the Kings went on the ice for their morning skate, O’Donnell declared: “Good. Then we’ll know if we need to carry Drew out there on our shoulders or not.”

Good news on Bernier. The kid’s worked hard and deserves this.

Really hope that Doughty makes the squad… It’d be great to watch him on that international stage. Other than a couple of games here and there, he’s played incredible hockey this year. No way would I pick Boyle or Seabrook over him, but then, Stevie Y is no fool.

Seabrook is really solid. I still like Doughty bettter though. Boyle always reminds me of a Norm MacIver, 4th forward type.

Remember that Team Canada left Crosby off an Olympic team that eventually failed to medal in Turin; hosers!

boyle yes, seabrook maybe, but still time for “alternates” to get in due to injury even if he is not named today. To be seriously considered is flat amazing in itself…

Goalies just announced. Luongo, Brodeur, and Fleury

No surprises really… I hope Smyth makes the team, most likely wont because of injury, but i’ll bet he wanted it reealll bad. Probably contributed to his hot start this year

    Rich-

Thanks for this list of prospects and their reports. Not a whole lot of negatives and that’s really nice to see for a change. Now if you can get Yanetti & Futa’s take on each prospect over time, that would be even more stellar. I’ll bet they’ll have added perspective over HF since they did their homework on each prospect to get them in the first place. I think it would be cool if each guy (Yanetti & Futa) could do a paragraph on a different player each week. Even better, if possible, have them delegate those writeups to the 7 amateur scouts they have under them and you could have the whole prospect chain done in a matter of hours. It would be really cool to have their perspective looking in as opposed to HF view from outside.

Again, thanks for getting this though. I appreciate it.
