FINAL: Coyotes 3, Kings 2

The Kings went on the power play with 2:04 remaining, but couldn’t get the game-tying goal. More from the locker room ASAP, including, hopefully, an update on Justin Williams.

Was a consistently a poor game by Jack Johnson, but especially at the end.

You have a THREE man advantage, dude – HIT THE NET! FORCE A REBOUND!

    Sheesh.
Quick was excellent again, tho. Just a bad bounce and a poor decision by a rookie, was all. The wins/losses are going to be decided by inches and milliseconds for this Kings team at this point in time, and their rust and lack of synch cost them.

Don’t send Elkins back, he needs to learn how to handle himself in those situations.. Johnson and Doughty looked ok together.. Simmonds didn’t look good, it looked like his knee is still bothering him.. These injuries are so saddening man, once again, either Scott Parse gets called up or we’re trading for someone.. Kings got outplayed and we didn’t play well at all, it was still a very tight game, if we don’t bounce back against the Wild, then I’ll be very worried

Games like this are why the Kings break my heart. Snakebitten by injuries, as they have often been through this decade. Would have been a great victory, or even a one pointer, and we were given a golden opportunity to get it at the end. So close, but……..

I think someone also needs to look into their stretching routines before the game. I have seen statistics that show that improper techniques in stretching cause teams to have more injuries. Just a thought…Considering the history we have it might need to be analyzed.

As a joke, I think we should have put 2 goalies in so that it would only be a 4-3 advantage and there would be a way to get Ersberg some work, and we wouldn’t have to suffer as fans watching the 5-3 (or 6-3) and at least it would have set some record for a hockey game… We must find humor or this will get ugly!!!

R.E.M. is obviously a long-time fan and knows the heart-ache associated with that title. Cut him some slack. R.E.M. must care a lot to be so upset by the game. And he is right about building a dynasty…but why can’t we win and build a dynasty? that is the really frustrating thing about being a Kings fan. And I feel his agony. Its better to be less optimistic and be surprised by the Kings than the other way around.

This is why I laugh at anyone suggesting the Kings should or could win the Western Conference. Teams that win conferences don’t have losses like that…stinkers. I can think of at least 3 already this season, there were probably more, that the team just looked out of their league. Flat, slow, and NO offensive pressure whatsoever. So, as I said before, be happy if this team makes the playoffs…maybe that is where they will learn to take the next step and play more consistenly throughout the season…and maybe from that, they might even win a cup. But with games like that, it sure the hell won’t be happening this year.

    [Reply]

  48. jet says:

rem — It sounds like you are fairly new to following the Kings. The team is 3 years into a complete rebuild. The youth on this team (second youngest in the league) are at a point where they need to play meaningful games in March. There is nothing comparable to the playing every game like it is your last after your body has already been through 75 games. We have young talent, we need to get them into big games to futher grow that talent. That goes for Manchester as well.
BTW – watch who gets more ice time in last ten minutes against Sweden, Scheen or Hall.

  52. I'm Just Saying" says:

You people are all on shrooms! We punch that goal in at the end and we start the overtime on a power play as well. BUT NO 6-3 as well as 5-3 as well as 5-4 has been and continues to be our weakness. You cant score on a powerplay you will not go to the playoffs period.

Also someone please tell me another team that gives up more quality shots than us? Quick should asked to be traded now or for 2 mil more a season. At the very least he should ask for the posts to be widened.

    [Reply]

  53. Quisp says:

    I’m Just Saying” -

In response to your query (although I know you weren’t really asking): there is a stat called SQA, or Shot Quality Against, which measures the quality of a team’s shots-against compared to the league average (the primary measurement here is distance from the net). So you asked to be told of another team that gives up more quality shots than the Kings. Statistically, every team in the league gives up a higher average shot quality than the Kings, except three teams, MIN, NJD and BOS. And you probably know that the Kings are among the best in the league in keeping their total shots against low (although not quite as good this year as last year).

    [Reply]

  54. Quisp says:

It’s insane to look at a team that has managed one of the top two or three first halves in franchise history, despite being wracked by injuries to six of its top players, and see only a team contending for last place. You really don’t see a difference between 9th place and 30th?

    ——————————-
So, you think the Penguins were sharp against the Kings earlier in the season? Nearly all teams put up a few stinker games, just not as many as Kings of the past have done. I hope this is the last lazy night we see. . .

Ya know Bob, everything was gonna be fine but you can’t resist the “I told you so.”
Dude, basing any logic on one game is, dare I say, delusional. Sample size, etc…
I refuse to be a Chicken Little, over-reacting to imaginary catastrophes. But to refute your central theme is simple: every team has bad games, an 8 day layoff is usually, if not alomost always responsibile for sloppy play and apparent slowness to react, and add to that an injury mid-game causing line mixups with already rusty players and you get a game that WE ALMOST WON ANYWAY.

    [Reply]

  58. Bob says:

    PX:

Seriously, rust? That might make some sense if the Kings haven’t already had a handful of games this season where they played the exact same way…yet without an 8-day layoff. Feel me?

Also, Conference championship teams do not ‘almost win’…they win. The Kings have had success this year, and big reason for that is due to QUICK. Had they not had the goaltending, we’d have some different results because both the defense and offense have been inconsistet thus far. Now, it has been good enough to win some games, as long as the goaltending is there. But my point is, the type of teams that you are attempting to put the Kings into are teams that are the whole package. They do it night in and night out….

The Kings have had some good luck this year, and that’s OK, because it’s long overdue. What we need to hope for is that it makes them a better team, that the winning changes the culture.

    [Reply]

  59. Quisp says:

    Bob,

Conference championship teams win about 45 times and almost win another 10 and almost-almost win another 15 and then in about 10 games they suck.

    [Reply]

  60. Quisp says:

    Also, Bob,

in general Quick has been spectacular in the losses and average in many of the wins. which is, you know, kinda backwards if the world is the way you think it is.

    [Reply]

  61. Bob says:

So Quisp, then you are sayin you agree with PX in that a team who hasn’t played a single playoff game since 2002 is now a team that should be contending for #1 in the Western Conference?

    [Reply]

  62. DuckHunter says:

I’m not expecting the Kings to win the Conference, but they are showing some sins of being a good team.

I would say Quick was a bit shaky in the beginning of the year and was bailed out by the tremendous play of our 1st line. After the great start we lose Smyth and Kopitar(just disappeared) to go along with Fro missing most the year and our team still wins. Who steps up?….Quick, Simmomnds, all the call ups and for my money the best forward the past month or so Stoll!!! That to me is a sign we’re going to be a strong team, a team that covers up it’s weaknesses and bring forth its strengths. Even last night, as I mentioned in a previous thread, was about as ugly as it gets and we were still in position to steal points.

I am a bit concerned with all the injuries, but if we can somehow put them behind us and continue to play with heart and tenacity we will be where we all want to be…..No. 1 in the conference? No, but playoff bound and the thought of that brings a smile to my face. Go Kings
