Monday practice update

After practice today, Terry Murray said that Smyth, Simmonds, Johnson and Segal all should be ready to play Saturday. Murray said Jarret Stoll is still having issues with his groin strain and that Randy Jones is still having problems when he attempts to exercise at a high level.

More on all of this later, including quotes from the returning players…

    Frick yea!

Sure could use Stoll, but frickin Wayne “The Night Train” Simmonds is back earlier than expected. Look out Western Conference, you haven’t seen the last of the LA Kings!

Rich, when can we expect to see Parse back up? I like and we need the kids energy…

Sounds like a concussion for Jones…

Groin injuries really scare me… he could re injure it at the drop of a hat for the rest of this season. Let him take all the time he needs to make sure it is back to 110%

I can’t believe Simmer is back already! I was expecting 6-8 weeks! This kid is exactly the kind of player we need on this team.

I hope we see an elkins return for line 4 if Stoll isn’t ready. Don’t want harrold in there.

I’ve heard that the arthroscope has really cut down recovery time from the old days, but this is incredible news about Simmonds, and very welcome. I think he’s made himself into one of the truly indispensable members of the team.

Just think: In less than 18 months, he’s gone from, “Seriously, he made the team out of training camp?” to, “Wow, how are we going to make do without him?” And he’s still only 21, with room to grow. Brilliant.

what did I say… 2 weeks.. Normal with that surgery…

  10. DougS says:

If Jones really has a concussion, that could be bad. It’s hard to tell how bad concussions really are, and sometimes the symptoms linger. That explains something about the Jacob Muzzin signing.

I agree with VanKingsFan that Stoll must not be rushed back. The upper thigh muscles are extremely important in terms of side-to-side movement, and re-injury is very possible if you’re not healed.

  11. Zach W. says:

Yes!!!!! This is amazing news!!! I love how TM makes sure he does’nt rush the players back, but lets them heal 100% and get cleared by the doctors before even considering letting them play. Great job! I agree with john I would love to see Elkins back on the fourth line with Segal and Ivanans. I wish Ivanans was traded I am so sick of seeing him take offensive zone penalties and his lack of skill is extremely frustrating for all Kings fans to watch, but I am glad he beats the crap outa people. Get rid of Purcell please! Stop waiting for him to develop he is not going to and he is a complete liability to the team! Our lines would be amazing if they looked like this…
    Smyth-Kopitar-Williams
    Frolov-Stoll-Brown
    Parse-Handzus-Simmonds
    Ivanans-Richardson-Elkins

Keep letting Moller and the rest of the guys down in Manchester develop, but I really like the look of these lines. What do you all think?

I hope Randy and Jarret are ok…let them heal completely before they come back, but lets hope they come back soon. I really like the Muzzin signing by the way, that kid is guna be another stud back on the blueline for us. Sorry Pittsburgh hahah!!

  14. VanKingsFan says:

I still think Parse works better with Stoll and Brown, while Fro works better with Zeus and Simmonds.

I would still rather have Purcell than Elkins out there, for PP reasons, and because of his extra NHL experience. I like Elky rather than Harrold as our extra forward though.

  15. Todd Matthews says:

Having Teddy Purcell on a 4th line id not a bad thing. He may not be a top 6 forward right now, but a lot of teams would like to have him on a 4th line. it’s just a indication how deep the Kings are.

    [Reply]

  16. Cry Baby says:

As someone said above i think Elkins should be centering the 4th. He is bigger, stronger and more productive than Harrold. I hope he gets the nod to come back to the NHL real soon. I would like to see him with Segal too, they might already have some chemistry from Manchester.

  17. Cry Baby says:

One other thought…I like the idea that Muzzin wants to sign here in LA. With the Kings overall depth and direction i feel like this city will be more attractive to free agents.

Kovo sure would look nice in Kings jersey!

  19. Manchester Connection says:

The best thing about the Kings in comparision to 2 or 3 years ago is that there is no need to rush anyone back from injury.

The kids here in Monarchs Country are playing well and can always be counted upon to help fill in with the Kings.

So far this year hockey in Manchester has been an absolute joy to watch. The players are playing well and backchecking there butts off. It is a far cry from what we went thru last season when we knew the playoffs might not become a reality.

The coaches are doing a great job and the players are really maturing.

Lets hope it continues and that we stay away from the “out 3 or 4 months” injuries that seem to be hurting some other teams.

    GO KINGS! & GO MONARCHS!

    Wow, about Simmonds… !

Does this mean someone has to be released/sent down to Manchester?

  21. Moondoggie says:

Simmerfan….That was nice! Tell me, can you predict if the Kings are going to win the cup this year too? Pretty please???

Shakes…Ah, yea…like always. I’m sorta shocked too…I really didn’t think we’d see him back this soon. With the exception of Jonesy, we’re healthy. As the other teams in the West start to catch up with LA, we are now rested and ready for the 2nd half of the season, let by Captain Canada coming back! Does it get any better than this? Yes!

Zach W…Gotta agree, the Muzzin signing looks like another stroke of pure genius by DL, where does he find these guys??? This kid is a stud, how about that fight posted on Youtube? He’s going be around awhile, good thing while we wait and see how Hickey’s surgery comes out. More depth on the blueline, we’ll take it!

A very Happy 2010 to all with the Kings deep in the playoffs. Saturday we get a late Christmas present; four future Kings are playing for Team Canada in the WJC….yes, it does get better!

    GO KINGS!

What great news… Simmonds is such a beast, I will be absolutely thrilled to see him back in the lineup (just like every other Kings fan). Hopefully now that he’s making a name for himself, they won’t pronounce his name as “Simons” in NHL ’11.

  23. Harry says:

    Lanny,

I hope they fix that too!

  24. Moondoggie says:

Manchester Connection…That’s funny, you were reading my mind! The Monarchs are truly an extension of the parent club and it is no small surprise that both teams are playing so well. NHL Network had a lot of nice things to say last night about DL and how he’s built the team through the draft from the ground up. “He did it the right way…” was the comment, he sure did. It is a tribute to his work ethic and that of his staff. He has assembled some hockey geniuses, the scouts are doing a phenomenal job keeping both teams well stocked. Both clubs are going to be deep for years to come.

This season has been a true joy to watch…Bernier gets another shutout yesterday…it just gets better and better!

    GO KINGS!

    Great news about Simmonds!

Think Segal will be good on the 4th. Showed some game and heavy on the puck aspects.

    Parse over Purcell!

Side note: If Kovo wants 10 years at 11.3 pr, then let someone else sign him. Those numbers will cripple a teams cap.

He says he wants to win and stay in ATL. Then he wants “apparently” 11.3 per. If you want to win, then you have to also be cap friendly.

    Russian=speakin with 2 tongues. Russian= me first.

No one should get payed more than malkin, Crosby or Ovi.

  27. Joel says:

No room for Parse? Parse has just meshed with every line combo. I hope they call him up for Saturday’s game.

I’m predicting Fro starts scoring a bunch of goals in the next few games. In my opinion Fro has been at the top of his game the last couple weeks.

Jones must have a concussion. The bad part is my brother had one and some of the symptoms never go away. Happened to him on the ice a few years ago and he gets bad vertigo (can’t sit in upper bowl) and gets headaches if he goes to a game and has to sit behind that safety net.

I hope Jones gets better and returns to what we saw in those first few games.

As for the other players, what a great x-mas gift.

    Wow.
    Is Simmonds really, really “ready”?

I figure that kid has a super-high pain tolerance.
He may “feel” ready before he actually “is”.

    I just hope he’s healed throughly and a reinjury/relapse
    isn’t possible.

But I suppose if the Doctors OK it, then…

    why not?
