Monday injury update

I’ll look forward — as I’m sure many of you will, as well — when these daily injury reports aren’t necessary. But obviously there’s a lot of news today, and after practice Terry Murray addressed the status of all of his injured players except Ryan Smyth, who is now off injured reserve and considered ready, and Andrei Loktionov, who is obviously still month to month…

MURRAY: “The guys who were on the ice here today, I do expect them all to be ready to go. Jack and Segal and Simmonds. Stoll still lacks some strength. He’s going to have to continue to get that worked on, on the off-ice part of it. Jones is doubtful.”

To follow up, I asked Murray about Jones’ status, and if there was any concern about a concussion…

MURRAY: “That word has not been mentioned to me. I know he has stiffness in his neck, a little bit of whiplash from the hit, and that seems to be the concern right now. When he rides the bike and gets his heart rate up to 150-plus, that’s when he’s having some issues. So he will go to the doctor this afternoon and get a good look and we’ll try to evaluate him from our team-doctor aspect.”

Just in case you don’t have your scorecard handy… Stoll has a strained groin, Johnson got hit by a shot on his ankle and Segal has a knee sprain. They’re all considered day-to-day, but as the saying goes…aren’t we all?

We have to hope that Stolly won’t be out for a long time…along with Randy.

I’ll take the silver lining side of all these injuries and wonder, “how good will the Kings be when/if everyone gets back in the lineup at the same time?”

Richardson has stepped up his game over the last month, Moller has played well and Elkins looks like he’s doing anything he can to stay with the big club. That 4th line looks like it could actually be decent.

And I’m still amazed that Simmonds could be back as soon as Saturday. Knee surgeries and getting hit by cars are nothing for hockey players.

I’ll take my Xmas presents late this year….Beat the Caps on 1/2 and go deep into the playoffs….like say the Cup final? With this team why not? I haven’t felt this good since 92-93……

    GO KINGS!

As I said at the time, Randy Jones’ injury is a neck injury. There’s never been any mention of concussion-specific (as opposed to neck-specific) injuries. When you have that kind of an injury intense physical activity can be a problem because the damaged disc doesn’t always sit right, and can limit blood flow. This is exactly the type of injury I deal with.

As for Stoll, I hope the next week (plus or minus Saturday) helps out as much as possible.

@Matt Reitz…I agree about the 4th line. It may turn out to be a blessing in disguise that these injuries happened. some players had to step up and compete against top players in intense situations. The Kings have shown that they are a team with a ton of depth.

@Todd M… Seems like the best way to look at all the injuries. Since most of them are coming back, we can look at the positives…. if it werent for the injuries, I’m not sure we’d know what guys like Scott Parse, Richardson or Simmonds were truly capable of.

37 games into the season, they have MUCH more depth than I would have thought they did. Seriously, did anyone think that Scott Parse could hang on the 2nd line before the season started? :)

Stoked about the news, but bummed to see Moeller/Elkins go. (Martinez may have already gone?)

What are folks thinking for who goes…..

Richardson is solid now although a month ago I would have sent him down and risked losing him.

If we had a better back up goalie and a top 6 left shot forward, even if it cost us say frolov, I would like our chances vs any team come playoff time. Plenty of depth in the system with guys who can excel on the 3rd & 4th lines and from time to time pull 2nd line duty. I just think that the first line is set and right up there with the leagues top lines, but a line with Stoll, Brown on the right where he prefers and a lefty left wing with some skill would look very nice. If we can’t get some help maybe we try Richadson on left wing on the 2nd line? Any way you slice it, it’s finally the type of season we deserve as fans nice job boys! Now if the ducks stay sucky but not so bad to get a top 5 pick I will be able to ret peacefully.

I’m minute to minute myself, but only when my paranoia kicks in.

Juraj Mikus on the other hand has always been in the same place for all time as perfection never waivers.
