Rich Nick was saying on the radio tonight (or last night at this point) that Quick is now the fastest goalie in Kings history to 20 wins.

If true, how does Jon feel about that?

Probably talk about one game at a time and all but .. just wonderin.

That is a team effort when OD scores to win the game. I just love the effort that all of the underrated players are showing. Now JJ is injured and they just keep on rolling…

I love the heart of this team.

assuming smyth is back on the 26th ….. and stoll and simmonds are still out …. lines could be ……………williams kopi smyth ……….. parse handzus frolov ……. brown richardson purcell …….moller elkins ivannis … just with that one player smyth coming back makes all the difference in the world ….. the first three lines dont look too bad at all ….. might be able to outplay our opponents again … and if stoll is back have him center brown and richardson and then let moller or elkins center purcell and ivannis

  5. Crown Royal says:

Quick stole this won for us! Was just reading TM’s quotes on the game and I wonder what game he was watching or what game he was playing?

He said some of the Manchester players were exposed by some good Edmonton players. This was only slightly true. The guys who were exposed were Greene and Jones who couldn’t handle the Oilers speed and forecheck pressure. Give Greene credit for some big hits in the third but he took another late penalty (twice in the last week) to give the Oilers another chance to tie. I’m not knocking Greene, he’s a warrior. I just don’t know why TM is talking about “the Manchester guys” when Greene and Jones were our two worst players last night.

All that said, great win by the KIngs who held on with the help of a great goaltending effort by our No.1 guy. This team is turning into a real winner!

Tough win tonight guys really hung in there nice job boys-
JQ was amazing – BR was our best forward and his game has really picked up the last 3wks or so- Kopi again was MIA got bounced off the puck all night – I’m starting to wonder does he have the desire to be great on just get by on his natural ability and skill over other players – even RI had some nice shifts and a pretty good cycle in the off zone – we were starting to suck some wind in the early 3rd – thought DB with another strong effort I was on him couple weeks ago but he has turned it around recently- lets pound Cal tomorrow-

Elkins got exposed a couple of times during the game. Its ok..he did really well on the PK late in the game.It was his 1st game…Mistakes were to be expected.

What a gutty performance by the guys. They played a beautiful road game and got superb goaltending from Quick.

Ritchie and Brownie were the best players tonight from start to finish. I can’t say enough about how Richardson has turned his career around with the Kings. We all wanted him gone and couldn’t understand what DL was thinking trading a #2 for him…myself included. He’s been really good over the last 15 or so games.

Let’s hope JJ’s injury isn’t serious. We cannot afford many more inuries before we start recalling ECHL players.

One more game until they get a break and possibly the return of some of our injured guys.
Boy, wouldn’t a win against Calgary be sweet?

    [Reply]

  8. RJC76 says:

That it would nykingfan. It’s going to be a tough game for sure. I can’t see them getting away with a game like last night with Calgary. We’re going to need Quick playing like he did last night, along with our first line supplying some offense or they’re going to be in for a long night. Don’t get me wrong I like the fact they’re pulling out W’s while not playing their A game, but it would be nice to just outright dominate for 60 minutes and get the W.

    He’s certainly been our MVP.

A little side note on Sully and Lubo
    they both suck!

Sully’s ass was glued to the bench in the 3rd period. Let’s see…a close game and he doesn’t get any shifts in the 3rd? Sounds like what TM usually does with Ivanans.. Anthonyyy?????
Lubo looks more like the Lubo we last saw, than the Lubo we were used to seeing. I still don’t know what happened to the guy. One thing that’s always been constant with him is he can’t hit the net with his shot, no matter what.
I still wouldn’t mind having him playing on our PP though.

  22. Cowboy Bill says:

I agree Paul, but what I’m really looking forward to is seeing Ryan Smyth reunited with Kopi – they really seemed to have a special “magic” out there early in the season. And Smyth is fantastic on the power play in front of the net! He makes everybody else better out there.

I’m so proud of this team, and its progression to this point! These injuries are a mixed blessing:

    1. ESTABLISHING TEAM IDENTITY-Even with all these injuries, we are still outworking the other teams for the win
    2. CONFIDENCE-Players like Richardson and Parse are really getting their chances to shine, and their confidence is growing. This is apparent by there recent play, and production.
    3. DEPTH- the system is working, even without Simmonds, Stoll, Smyth, and Scuderi, we are still able to win games. What other team could win if the equivalent was taken from their roster…
    4. BELIEF- the depth of this organization is completely
apparent now that we have X number of AHLers in the roster, and still continue to win. In the back of every players mind must be the anticipation, and expectations, for a full-healthy-roster! ! ! Alot to look forward to.
5.Quick-not relative to anything I’ve spoken about, but still amazing….who is Bernier again?!

    Smyth/Kopitar/Williams
    Parse/Stoll/Brown
    Frolov/Zeus/Simmonds
    Ivanans/Richardson/Moller-Purcell

I am just riding this wave…in some ways I am still expecting “the real Kings” to come back and blow this momentum. I am so used to seeing them fail that it’s surreal to watch this team do well. I love the fact that they are playing well and seeing them suck for so long was lame. However I am not accustomed to watching them win and win and win and win…feels weird. Admit it.

  30. Barry's Mullet says:

You have to be kidding me….after last nights game this should be the line for the rest of the season

    Richardson/Stoll/Brown

Enough experimenting with Parse and Purcell on that line. I saw more chemistry on that line in one period than all 30+ games combined (granted Stoll is out injured)

This also comes back to having your LW shoot LEFT!!!! Richardson never scores that first goal if he was a righty. And no way Parse or Purcell get a shot off that hard for Browns rebound goal.

Take a look at Richardson stats before he came to the Kigns the guy can score!!! He’s an ANIMAL in the corners and has more speed than both those guys put together. I’m not down on Parse or Purcell they just dont belong on that line. I would put them together between Moller on the 4th line.

This is OFF-TOPIC but something relevant that I think everyone here would enjoy. I was on the Kings website and came across a Podcast interview by Mike Kalinowski that because Rich is Rich, he would not announce here. Reason being, the interview is with Rich Hammond.

So I’m posting it. It was a nice, insightful listen that I really enjoyed that I think everyone here would enjoy as well. Nice to know a little bit more about the guy bringing us our daily fix of up-to-the-minute info. I’m with you about radio/audio being MUCH easier to do when you’re being interviewed. The key to TV is to be in the moment and not think about the camera. The camera ends up disappearing. Easier said than done with all the lights and such, but when it happens, it feels good.

Give it a listen. Kudos to Crusher for a nice interview!

  35. Player-X says:

Chemistry is key- I know it’s only one full game, but it seems that Brown has finally found that with Richardson. Here would be my lines on a healthy team-
    Smyth-Kopi-Williams-chemistry is obvious here
Frolov-Handzus-Simmonds-Proven mix, shut down line, clock eaters and scoring too
Parse-Stoll-Moller-Parse and Stoll have always clicked, Moller’s quickness and versatility fit well, this line forces the opposition to use their faster defensemen against us or else put out a “size” line in which case we are likely to win faceoff and control play in their zone to avoid opposition size advantage in our zone.
Brown-Richardson-and either Purcell or Ivanans-okay, I know this sounds whack, but if you get away from the myth that a 4th line is only good for partial minutes than you can roll these 4 lines.
With the Kings extra travel, and the fact that they are relatively under-sized compared to some other teams (it’s not a bad thing, just different styles), the Kings need to roll 4 lines all game through IF THEY HAVE THE DEPTH. Finally, I think, they do have that depth. Add to that the way Murray mixes lines for power play, and you have an adjustment of lines needed after special teams play before the lines can roll back into sync. As it has been so far, a top 6 was double-shifted into the fourth line, as another way to re-adjust after special teams play. With my 4 lines, there would be equal expectations from all 4, and nobody could hide by playing fewer minutes to lower expectations from being relegated to a 5 minute game, as the 4th line is now used. And, when it gets late in game (last 10 minutes, or 5 if possible) and the bench can be shortened without fatigueing top two lines, you have a customizable set of 5 players from which to choose to make up the third line. What I mean is, between Stoll, Brown, Richardson, Parse and Moller, you can make a killer 3rd line depending on who is having the best night so far.
That is what I would try, give it a 5 game segment and see what it looks like.

I recorded the game last night and watched it again, and a few things really stood out.Zues made some brilliant passes coming out of our zone to spring Brown and Richardson with speed.Quick didn’t steal the game either.Quick was just being Quick. At no time did I get the feeling Edmonton Should of won. They had some chances, but so did we.Green made one bad pass, but made up for 10 times over with his physical play. Some complained about Whiskey sitting more than jones, but Whiskey was on the ice for both Edmonton goals. All in all I was impressed with what I saw(concidering all the injuries).

  38. nykingfan says:

Ivanans showed why he belongs in the lineup. He played his best game of the year, but he was right there when DD got hammered. I had no problem with him taking the instigator. Great job on the PK…he picked up his teammate, the team picked him up. Way to go Ivan!

People belly aching about how the kids were caught out of position a lot need to recognize that there are lot of kids on the squad being pressed into duty before they might otherwise be. Imagine if you were an intern somewhere and someone got sick, so you got the opportunity, without much warning, to go up to the top floor and do the hot shot’s job for a day. I’ll bet everything wouldn’t go quite right. If TM was happy with their contributions, I am.

  42. Barry's Mullet says:

    Player X

Moller is no where close to being ready to play 2nd or 3rd line minutes. Parse and Purcell are decent 3rd line players but probably best suited to play the 4th line like you described which I totally agree with. The 4th line should either be your tough line or your youth line that you plug in on the other lines when you have injuries or play 3 games in 4 nights.

The lefty vs righty is a bigger problem than one might think and why I’m pushing for Richie to play LW…..The following players have all played LW at some point and all shoot right.

    Frolov
    Brown
    Purcell
    Parse

Im sure everybody hates the soft goals that we would see occasionally from Quick, but the kid gives us a solid effort everynight. I dont add a goal for the opponent before the game starts like i did when jamie storr was in Goal… I just dont remember seeing a King goalie steal a game for us. The kid has robbed people numerous times. I just dont recall having goaltender who could do this for us. …and dont say Kelly Hrudey of course your going to block something with your fish out of water style……..

How about Rogie Vachon, and yeah it’s been a while.

  45. Player-X says:

Barry’s Mullet, I hear ya about Moller but i am saying we need to change the miutes alotted so that there is very little difference between lines until last ten or even 5 minutes. That way moller would not be getting “2nd or 3rd line minutes” as you say. I understand tho that he would still be getting more minutes than you would seem to be comfortable with… I just think the guy has tools and needs ice time and the right fit, and he would impress again as he did before getting hurt in Junior Champs or whatever it was.
Richardson, I am not so sure about on left wing. He is listed on our depth chart now as a right winger, not sure how long that has been that way, but he is also listed with NHL as a center, and I think he is actually a natural center forced onto a wing.
My main point was that Parse and Stoll clicked really well two first games, and later when they got paired, plus the first two lines seem set with Kopi’s line and Zus-Simm-Fro. After that, Richardson seems to click with Brown, and Stoll has always clicked with Parse, so to keep those two pairs together and have 4 serious lines with two-way capability, I plugged in Moller/Ivanans and Purcell.
Anyway, thanks for chatting, good thoughts…

    Barry’s Mullet

You should text Murray and tell him about Parse/Moller/Purcell line.

Moller and Purcell looked good last night. Parse and Purcell looked good when they played together. Although Parse and Simmonds looked really good, Frolov is going back to the Simmonds/Handzus line when Smyth returns.

Richardson seems to be the best fit they’ve found for Brown, so I say you leave that going for a while.

I know there’s a role for Ivanans but would the following lines really be that bad?

    Smyth/Kopitar/Williams
    Frolov/Handzus/Simmonds
    Richardson/Stoll/Brown
    Parse/Moeller/Purcell

Those four lines would all score.

They also did some good things as well. We won the game, that’s all that matters. We battled and we fought for the 2 points and got what we richly deserved. It was a total team effort with a lot of help from the stud in goal.

  51. Barry's Mullet says:

    Player X and Shrimp

I think Moller is going to be a solid player at some point. He has skill and most of all he has heart which I heard DL comment about a few months back. Personally I think he will be traded before he reaches his full potential.

The Kings are going to make a push for Kovi if he doesn’t resign with Atlanta and at the very least they are going to trade for one or two proven players with playoff experience.

Lets assume we get Kovalchuk….If you’re the Thrashers GM who do you take from the list below? I have to think Purcells stock has fallen sharp which leaves Schenn, Moller, JJ and I know this is blasphemy Simmonds. Its also not a stretch to think Bernier is now in play with the way Quick has played this season.

I’ve removed players that other teams would not want because of salary and age.

    Untouchable….
    Kopi
    Brown?

  52. Lorenzo of SB says:

    TJS
I love those four line combo’s. Very few if any teams have depth four lines deep like the Kings. As well as Ivan played last night I think his usefullness and skill level is limited. I say a healthy squad has no room for him. If suddenly the Kings start to get intimidated by other teams then bring him back. In the games where he’s been scratched the kings still hit people and I think take fewer stupid penalties. I hope after the break Murray starts cementing the 3rd and 4th lines.
Also, the Kings still have this 3rd period problem of giving up the lead. Last night it was a bad line change when the puck didn’t get deep enough. You can go back to the Dallas and other games and see that same result. Quick won’t be able to overcome these lapses all year like he has the past month. Not to mention giving up late or come from behind goals in the 3rd during the playoffs is suiside.
It is amazing to see however that we’re not melting down after a tying goal and following flurry. Even in the Vancouver game we stopped the bleeding and could have easily tied it early in the second. Here’s hoping they have enough gas in the tank for Calgary

I think you have to make simmer and JJ untouchables as well. Simmer is the best young prospect with 30-40 goal potential and JJ has proven his value as an offensive threat on the blue line and in SO. I can handle his defensive weaknesses for now.

  55. Player-X says:

Mullet, I cannot even think of trading late season or over the summer right now, sorry, it does not compute. My only worry with Shrimp’s four lines, even tho they seem slam dunk, is that the Parse Moller Purcell line is way too inexperienced and would be an easy matchup against any big line. (As in road games in playoffs) Consequently, they wouldn’t get minutes, which would mean top two lines would get more minutes which would be fatigue issue with our heavy travel distances in playoffs back and forth. I am trying to give four balanced lines of minutes until 10 minute mark in third, and I was trying to spread the chem around at the same time. I guess I am saying that my biggest priority would be to save Kopi’s line from fatigue and easy line-matching by having a plausible 3 other lines to roll out there.

  56. Barry's Mullet says:

If you want one of the top 3 snipers in the league at his age you are going to have to give up something and that something is going to be two or three top prosepects, a few draft picks and one or two top roster players.

Don’t forget the Kings won’t have an exclusive on getting him…count on Boston, NY, Det among the few teams that he would like to go to, maybe have the cap space and the picks and players the Thrashers would want. I’m not sure he would want to play in LA over the teams mentioned, but I give the edge to the Kings as far as cap space to sign him.

  57. Barry's Mullet says:

The Kings are where they are at only because of the Quick start this season (1st line was on fire) and J.Quick standing on his head the last 10 games….that won’t last. The difference this season over last is mainly goaltending and not much else. I’m just guessing but the Kings have probably won 8 or 10 games that they would have lost last season.

Point being with this roster, i.e. secondary scoring, they will not go far in the playoffs. I think DL knows this and knows this team is ahead of schedule and if he can’t get the grand prize (Kovi) he will make a move when teams decide to pack it in and unload some really good talent with expensive contracts.

  58. nykingfan says:

I think the days of players not wanting to play in LA may be over, or close to being over.
It seems pretty obvious that we’re now a well respected team that’s right on the edge of being an elite team.
This has become an attractive place to play…

I agree 100% It will get easier to sign players but I don’t think we are there just yet, especially signing a super star. I think the Kings are finally going to be a solid team and contender for many years. I simply look at it from a players point. Would I want to play in LA who has a great core of young players but has never done anything or would I take a less money to play in NY, Boston or Det and I would have to say the later.

everybdoy look…. ivannis stinks …. one good game last night dosent all of a sudden mean hes going to play that way every night … unfortunately he will be playing 90 percent of the games because of the whole enforcer thing ….. so we all just have to deal with it ….. westgarth is a way way way better player/enforcer than ivannis but somebody said the reason why the kings havent brought him up is because there are rumors hes playing with a bad back in manchester … i have no idea if thats true, but too bad if it is because westgarth looked great last year ……… anyways yes, stoll richardson brown should be our 2nd line – and zeus fro and simmonds 3rd ……….. parse and ivannis should be on the 4th, and although purcell is a better player, i guess that leaves moller as the center , unless elkins really steps up …………….. so when we are all healthy i guess unfortunately that leaves purcell out, eventhough hes a much better player than moller is right now …… moller is not ready for the nhl …. hes far too weak on the puck …. in a couple years he might be ready for an everyday role , but not now …… but we may be forced to use him since we are all thinking about moving richardson out of the 4th line center role and up to the second line winger role …… so since we have no one else, i guess the 4th line should be moller parse ivannis …….. all this of course when everybody is healthy, and barring any trades …….. of course id rather have moller parse purcell …. but we all know ivannis will be playing ….. thats just the way it is in the nhl with the whole enforcer thing ……. come playoff time , teams many times scratch their enforcer for like 75 percent of the games during the playoffs …. so hopefully we can all have a break form ivannis then (at the most important time of the year)

they might want to take less $, but are those teams any closer right now to winning than we are?
Detroit is Detroit and I never want to count them out of anything, but they don’t seem like a dominant team or a cup contending team anymore.
Only time will tell, but i would think the Kings cap room and the long term future of the org might sway the superstar here before most other places.

I thought Elkins was terrific on the Pk in the 3rd period.
Early in the game I was wondering how the guy made it to the AHL, let alone the NHL…I’m sure it was nerves.

i still think we need to add a depth forward by a trade rather than rely on moller to center a 4th line ….. someone of the eric belanger ilk …. you know, someone cheap who wont mind centering a 4th line and then moving up in case we have injuries ….. but who knows maybe when everybody is healthy terry murray still plans to have richardson center the 4th and leave purcell with brown and stoll …. if thats the case, then trade for a second line player to replace purcell, and leave purcell on the team for depth purposes ….. healthy scratch etc… because purcell brown stoll hasnt worked all season …. so trade for a guy to replace purcell ….. if u can of course deano …. yes many times easier said than done , but im just saying thats what id do ……. im basically looking to get moller back in the minors, and purcell used as an injury insurance policy healthy scratch type guy with a trade like either one i just described ………………… it dosent have to be for a major player like kovulchuk ………. because when we are healthy i think we are good enough to beat anybody …. just needs a little fine tuning – a veteran addition …… besides – gms love to do that stuff come trade deadline time dont they …. so go for it deano ….. im still sore about the whole gaborik thing(one of the elite players in the nhl) but our players have improved so much this year we can compete now ….. its just that with gaborik i felt we could have been a dominant team and pounded opposing teams and been very dominant, instead of winning every game 3-2 ….. but hey ill take it of course …. winning is all that matters, dosent matter if its 7-1 or 3-2 ….. lol the 7-1 way is just alot less stressful lol lol lol …… so anyways, go get a cheap or averaged priced veteran forward before the deadline so we dont have to rely on purcell, and especially moller …… okay daddyo ….. peace

I agree. As of right now, I don’r know if there’s a player in the league giving more return for the salary they are being paid.

The only thing is, if Simmonds keeps playing like this he’s probably in line for a raise.
