I hope we do not meet VAN in the playoffs, we suck against them
[Reply]
I’ll take Vancouver in the playoffs if we get home ice. Murray will exploit that.
[Reply]
They were out of it before the game even started.
At no point were they in control of the game. 5 minutes of possession time in the offensive zone=loss.
It’s fun to be on top but the Kings really have a long way to go. Still developing.
[Reply]
Don’t the Canucks announcers understand that if we pull the goalie, that would give us a 2-man advantage !!!! Special teams lost this game. You could sense from that first VAN goal it was going to be a long night. Oh well, can’t win em all. On to EDM.
[Reply]
That was by far, one of the most uninspired games i have a seen all season…seems like there was no emotion. Someone might was to tell Dustin Brown, not to be so much of a puck hog and use his linemates a bit more. Thoughts???
[Reply]
The Vancouver fans are cheering—you can hear them on the radio broadcast… They beat a good team (who played badly) and their fans appreciate it. Most in L.A. don’t even know the Kings were playing tonight….
[Reply]
I blame Helene Elliott
[Reply]
My playoff prediction.Calmary 1rst.round.Vancouger 2nd.round.HD for the home games.
[Reply]
I was hoping Kings gonna come up with win but honestly no surprise there.
[Reply]
If the kings cant beat a mediocre team in Vancouver, they will not do anything in the playoffs, hope this game brought some of you back to earth. And oh, Stoll’s out for another month now I’m sure, bunch of sissies
[Reply]
Maybe this loss will be a wake up call to the team, that jsut because their in 1st doesn’t mean they can take a game off basically. I hope TM gives it to the team in the locker room and they come out with a better performance tomorrow. Lets try and finish this road trip on a positive note for the break and smyth/ possibly simmond’s return.
[Reply]
Vancouver played well, Kings not terrible, just average.
[Reply]
Brown can only pass to those who get open and or are driving to the net.
Since he was the only one doing those things……..
…he did make a nice pass to himself in the neutral zone.
[Reply]
Mark… I blame Whitney Garvens (hay why not)
[Reply]
They made Dewey the second star…
[Reply]
Rich- Why don’t you interview Jamie Kompon and ask him if he wants to keep his job. This lack of scoring on the PP is BRUTAL! Have we scored on a 5-3 this year? Could have been 2-2 and been a different game. Ask him why we NEVER shoot a guy backdoor and we NEVER set a guy up in the slot. I’d like answers to those questions. I think we’re the only team in the NHL who doesn’t do those things.
We looked sluggish. Parse was pretty much non-existent. Purcell was WORSE! Kopi looked like he had bricks on his skates. Brownie and Stoll had lots of energy. Williams did pretty well. Where the hell was the Frolov we saw 2 games ago? I KNEW he’d disappear again. At least he did have one good check in his own end.
So now Elkins has been called up for Simmonds. Guess Juraj Mikus is coming for Stoll. Either him or Cliche. I’m pulling for Mikus. Let him play with Brownie and tell him it’s really Ziggy Palffy.
[Reply]
Pathetic game….and can we PLEASE be done with the Purcell experiment? Seriously, the guy has nothing.
Oh, and I learned something new tonight. The Vancouver announcers claimed that Frolov has been the Kings 2nd best player since he was benched for the Dallas game….hmmmm.
[Reply]
I wouldn’t pass the puck if purcell was on my line either…
[Reply]
Oh yeah. I apologize for asking everyone to believe we were coming back in that game. My heart was in the right place. Seems the team’s heart was not.
[Reply]
There’s probably too many injuries to keep winning. It’ll be hard without Stoll and Simmonds.
[Reply]
Thinking the boys were a little tired tonight (i hope) after 3 overtime games in a row. Lets take it out on the Oilers! Another streak to demolish! GO KINGS!
[Reply]
Other than Frolov, Kopitar and Jones, the Kings did absolutely nothing. There is no excuse to losing to a mediocre team like Vancouver. The Kings’ only 2 regulation losses in the last 10 have been to the Canucks.
[Reply]
vasquez — actually Vancouver is the second best home team in the league, far from mediocre
[Reply]
I’m sorry Verno, i’d sware there’s was a 2 on 1 and Brown chose to shoot the puck over the net. I never see that guy pass to an open teammate. He always takes some stupid shot and I understand the shot mentality, but you can’t pass up a good pass for a mediocore shot.
[Reply]
Well said Josh…LOL
[Reply]
I sense another Matthew Barry blog on HockeyBuzz talking about Brown’s captaincy . . .
[Reply]
It’s funny how people get all up in arms when I criticize Quick. Here is the stat we need to justify. Quick is 2nd in NHL in wins. Yet amongst the top 10 winningiest goaltenders, he is worst in GAA and Save %. I feel we are gonna have a SJ type year this year, maybe even with Presidents Cup and all.
[Reply]
Is no one concerned about kopitar? I’m sick of hearing excuses for him, “smyth is out, he draws the toughest d-men, he is playing defensively responsible.”
We have seen what he is capable of, now we should expect him to play that way night in and night out. He doesn’t get to take 20 games off. Its like last year all over again.
TM, time to make #11 your #1 priority. Get the kid back on track, demand accountability.
[Reply]
Trade Quick for Price. Gainey will bite
[Reply]
One word: Simmonds.
We are about to find out how important the Big Man is to our team, with him out. He’s always seemed to be in the center of each game, with hits, passes and even goals.
Wish we had two of him!
[Reply]
So, because we lost a game to the Canucks, it means nothing that we beat 5 of the teams in the playoffs atm (Hawks, Flames, Sharks, Coyotes, Stars) in the last 10 games?
Some of you guys are unreal. Its not like we were going to win the last 48 games.
[Reply]
SISSIES????? Dude don’t be so brutal! Hahahahahahahahaha
[Reply]
We should have hired Tippet while we had the chance for assistant coach. Our powerplay is a joke. I think we’re something like 1 for 14 on 5-3. We were 0-5 in this game too.
[Reply]
R.E.M.,are you kidding.Price is weak high to the glove side.Talk about soft goals.
[Reply]
I think the effort was not there at all tonight… no energy, no hustle, no hunger or desire to win at all tonight. It didn’t look like this was the same kings team that has worked hard to get to the top. They looked liked they didn’t care if we won or not tonight. Fellas still a lot of hockey left… if we start slacking and giving half ass effort, we are not gonna make it far. Ohh, and Van deff has our number down this year… and i really hope we do not face Van or Flames in the first rnd of the playoffs. Here’s to hoping the boys come out with A LOT better effort and hunger against the oilers. GO KINGS!!
[Reply]
Quick was the only one that showed up tonight. What a boring game. Even our goal was a gay broken play. We didnt show up, and we play like that again, we dont deserve to be in the number 1 spot. Vancouver earned that one.
[Reply]
Quick is not the problem, our D is giving the opposition too many grade A prime scoring chances, that’s why Quicks GAA and save% suck, compared to the other top 10 winning goalies.
[Reply]
It’s almost as though we have too much skill, too little jam as a team. Yet…
This team is just so far ahead of my expectations, it’s difficult to judge.
I remember the 2005-6 team, too. This team has a lot more talent than that one. It won’t collapse, it just needs the S-men, Smyth and Simmonds.
[Reply]
We had a chance to be #1 in the NHL. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. A win vs Edmonton is a must and at least a point vs Calgary.
[Reply]
Dom, Price is a .913 with no Markov and Komisarek and Quick is a .903. I’ll take Price anyday, DL needs to persuade Gainey that he can save his job with this deal.
[Reply]
My hope: 24 wins by the end of the year…
[Reply]
Ohh, and to frolov bashers.. he was probably the best forward tonight and had the only goal for the kings. Give the guy a break. We need Kopi to pick up his scoring soon!
[Reply]
wonton, just because it didn’t happen this time doesn’t mean it won’t happen at all.
[Reply]
So Edmonton has won 5 straight, they rested tonight, they get last change tomorrow, and some people here are saying “WE HAVE TO GET AT LEAST A POINT”
[Reply]
REM – you’re acting like a little kid. Stop trying to blame Quick, he was EASILY our best player AGAIN tonight.
Why is everyone saying Stoll is out for a month? I watched the whole game and he played right till the end, or did I miss something?
[Reply]
Deader2818 gets it, good somebody does.
[Reply]
I guess tantrum got it all figured out now like Don Cherry. Did tantrum used to coach the Bruins?
[Reply]
price is trash r.e.m way overrrated cuz he plays for the habs half there fans are finally realizing hes terrible
[Reply]
Deader did nail it!
[Reply]
Well we dropped to 4th in west but yet still a tie for 1st and still tied for 2nd in nhl tied with Sharks, NJ, Pens and 1 down from Caps. I still say that’s good even if we do have more games played.
[Reply]
this team only has enough depth to deal with one injury to our best forwards …. if 2 get hurt, simmonds and smyth, then plain and simply we wont be able to beat anybody …. it sucks ….. its nobodys fault … theres no need to criticize what players did in the game because we simply will not win with 2 key forwards hurt … we can win if one is hurt, but not 2, we are screwed …. it sucks because usually u will only have one guy hurt at a time, and this kings team has shown it has the depth to deal with that and keep on winning without smyth … but now simmonds …. forget it ………. were cooked …… i dont even wanna think about the whole stoll situation because its too depressing
[Reply]
Cynic says:
“Oh yeah. I apologize for asking everyone to believe we were coming back in that game. My heart was in the right place. Seems the team’s heart was not.”
Look kids, this team has been coming up with ways to win when we all at times thought that due to injuries they would MAYBE play 500-hockey. Not to mention this last string of games against the leagues top teams going to all the way to shootouts. Besides going up against the leagues best goalie and one of the leagues best puck-control teams, how can you expect them not to be tired once in a while? And oh by the way, they just lost one of their most inspirational players in Simmonds, who is also one of their only hitters, which helps tire the other teams out…. Yea we lost, bummer, but don’t even begin to say they have no heart after what they’ve just done the last month!
GO KINGS!!!
[Reply]
Well if we can get another performance tomorrow from Quick like we did tonight, and a little more effort from the rest of the team, we should get the win. I think the boys started thinking about their Christmas vacation 3 games too soon. I doubt we’ll get the win in Calgary because they’ll just want to get the game overwith so they can have a break. So hopefully we get 2 points tomorrow…
[Reply]
Oh well. Even if we lost the next two, we have 8 days to rest and then Smyth will be back. Hopefully Stoll too.
[Reply]
BCCG,
You say, [the Kings] just need the S-men, Smyth and Simmonds; but don’t forget Stoll (is he really injured?). Stoll’s been playing really well too.
[Reply]
REM you are obviously not watching the same game as everyone else tonight. All 3 goals against were grade A+.
Move to Montreal.
[Reply]
kings can have a nice win streak and one bad game everyone is mad and says its the same old kings and start bagging on hem as if they were last in the leauge! every team has bad games i think were allowed one. the other games werent great that we won but we know we can win playing a bad game imagine when we play well!
kings didnt play well listened to the whole game but come on guys. we have two players out that are out with ryan smith and in my opinion a player thats important as anyone else with wayne simmonds! dont beat the team up were first in the confrence BE HAPPY!!!! GO KINGS lets put this game behind us and lets beat sully and edmonton!!!
[Reply]
So Ryan Miller, Marc-Andre Fleury, Ilya Bryzgalov, Miikka Kiprusoff, Evgeni Nabokov, Craig Anderson, Roberto Luongo, Cristobal Huet, Niklas Backstrom, Pekka Rinne, Henrik Lundqvist and Semyon Varlamov all have at least 12 W this season, all have fewer wins than Quick, yet they all have more shutouts and better SV%. And yet we continue to make Quick out to be the next Terry Sawchuk. What a disgrace!
[Reply]
Where are the people saying Stoll is injured? What’s going on?? Can someone please answer me?
[Reply]
eyesk8r:
Brown isn’t the best shooter… That’s a given.
But.. That 2-1 that you speak of was played perfectly which left brown with one option. And, that option was to shoot the puck over the net.
What he does best.
The Kings also had ZERO breakout. ZERO penetration through the neutral zone. And, once they chipped the puck in the damn zone they were lucky if they were the first ones to get it.
Vancouver played OK. The Kings were asleep.
You can only get lucky so many times with terrible play. The two games vs. Phoenix and Dallas were straight up lucky wins.
[Reply]
Quick by the time it is all said and done Quick will have the most wins of any goaltender not in the Hall of Fame
[Reply]
REM – You’re handle is named after a horrible ex-Oiler, who obviously you think is good. Otherwise, why ELSE would you want to name yourself after him? It shows your true colors, bud…
[Reply]
Cynic nailed it:
“Rich- Why don’t you interview Jamie Kompon and ask him if he wants to keep his job. This lack of scoring on the PP is BRUTAL! Have we scored on a 5-3 this year? Could have been 2-2 and been a different game. Ask him why we NEVER shoot a guy backdoor and we NEVER set a guy up in the slot. I’d like answers to those questions. I think we’re the only team in the NHL who doesn’t do those things.”
==
We are the least creative 5-3 unit on the planet. And I’m including juniors, pee-wee, everyone! It really hamstrings us.
–
My other issue is Brown. He needs more moxie. I wish he would camp out in front of the net like he used to. Is he secretly injured?
Quick played well enough tonight but we can’t beat Vancouver scoring a goal a game. Now we face a red-hot Edmonton squad. Should be interesting.
[Reply]
Tantrum those were in response to a so called fan earlier.Nobody knows yet.
[Reply]
Hey tant and dom
http://lakingsinsider.com/?p=2412
[Reply]
Thanks Dom. So in other words, he’s fine…
[Reply]
Tantrum4,
Go back to Hammond’s sub-headings on this site; their are two or three references to what happened to Stoll.
[Reply]
Got it, thanks…
[Reply]
shut outs are over rated r.e.m and have you seen the games hes been playing lately amazing and have yous seen how many 1 goal games hes having, we would have won just as many games if they were all shut outs
[Reply]
Hey just ignore this REM guy. He called us ‘You Kings fun’ on the ohter post so obviously he is not in our hood. Probably his favorite team sucks and wants to mess around.
[Reply]
tantrum4 doesn’t have any idea, prob didn’t watch the game either
[Reply]
How about Ivanans dropping the gloves in a game we are down 2-0? How about Ivanans dropping the gloves at all? This is how you can spark a team.
PP Horrible and Embarrasssssssssing. Please people keep defending our power play and PK as it is still 13th best overall. It’s pathetic it stinks, Sucks and is trash. Calling a spade a spade here. 5 on 3 in a game you can tie and not get a shot? AGAIN? Jaime K should be let go. I just cant believe how this team plays offensively. Yes go ahead and spat how we are the 3rd or 4th best in goals. WOW I know we cant win them all but OMG. Nice work Williams! You play so well on Sat and come out on Monday and look Baaaad. Consistancy huh? Kopi plays like he could give a damn. Loligags through the nutrual zone and has not driven the net since maybe game 13. I also like the way we cant skate the puck up into the zone ever and the other team has one guy bring it in untouched. Well the rant is over GOOD LUCK TOMORROW
[Reply]
King John:
You are right. May that groin injury for Stoll not be too long…
[Reply]
trade quick ??? no no ….. when he stays deep in his net as he has been lately (i think hes finally learned his lesson) he is one of the best goaltenders in this league …. and besides we havent had a goalie this good EVER
[Reply]
Who was he going to fight. Glass?
[Reply]
Seems to me last time he was injured .Not this time.
[Reply]
goldielocks
The Scientology site is located at scientology.org
Hope that helps!
[Reply]
Why would we trade Quick for Price when we have Bernier waiting in the wings? That trade makes zero sense to me. Quick is just keeping the spot warm for Bernier next season, and I think we all know that in our heart of hearts
[Reply]
That is fine Reno, but Price is better than Quick so acquire him and show that to the league so you get increased trade value
[Reply]
Hey were’s your buddy clippers.
[Reply]
The kings have been playing on fumes with a lot of luck thrown in during their last few wins…tonight they crashed down to earth. Would love to know stats for puck possession in opposition zone for games. Long term, dump and chase doesn’t win as a team system,…or Scotty Bowman doesnt know crap about hockey.
[Reply]
Roadtripper-
You are mistaking my comment for someone bashing the Kings long-Term. That is NOT the case. They’ve played out of their heads the last 10 games with injuries.
That does NOT absolve this team from taking a night off. I can count the number of guys who played with heart tonight on ONE HAND:
Brown, Williams, Quick, Doughty, Greene.
Everyone else was not playing up to their usual selves. Why would TM have to call a timeout so early in the game if this was NOT the case.
I simply am calling a spade a spade. It’s what I witnessed tonight. Maybe you saw something else but the Kings played like they did on Saturday and as Justin Williams said ‘We have to play better if we’re gonna win up in Canada on this road trip. JW called it. They didn’t play better. They lost. This game was winable.
I hope TM is chewin some a$$ out tonight. I also hope Davis Drewiskie enjoys playing for Jones tomorrow. I get the feeling there will be change a comin’ on the blueline for at least a game or 2.
Hope that explains my comment.
[Reply]
We played bad and didn’t find a way to win. Van played a much better game than us. They won the important faceoffs and could actually pass stick to stick. They seemed to get all the loose pucks.
I’m done with Purcell. He is my new whipping boy. Sorry Teddy but you had your chance. We need a REAL #2 LW. That’s nice that you have potential but we don’t need that we need proven skill now.
Terrible communication by Green on the 3rd goal.
NO NET PRESENCE! SOMEONE PLEASE DRIVE TO THE NET!
I can see Oscar Moller moving up to the #2 center spot.
Kopitar needs to step it up.
[Reply]
Cynic> You forgot Stoll. I thought he was playing with Heart out there too
[Reply]
We also need to play much more physical with Vancouver.
Time for Jones to sit and DD2 to come back and play.
[Reply]
r.e.m good thing your not g.m. thats all i have to say
[Reply]
Just got back from GM Place and here are my thoughts:
1. Brown was all over the ice, creating plays and generally upsetting Canucks fans. However, he should have had atleast one goal tonight. On the two-on-one with Kopitar, I thought he was going to crack his stick over his head after he missed.
2. I didn’t realize how bad defensively Randy Jones is.
3. Quick was very good tonight. Canucks fans were praising him all night.
4. Other than the first period, I thought the Kings generally controlled the tempo of the second and third.
5. I notice a couple times where TM was yelling at Moller to get off the ice and he didn’t.
In conclusion, the Kings were bad but not terrible. The second period was very boring and Randy Jones should go help out in Manchester. Oh, and GM Place is one crazy loud place.
[Reply]
I’m beginning to see why Flyers fans hate Randy Jones. He took 2 penalties and has bad defensive coverage. But the Kings can’t take him out because he’s basically their #2 offensive defensman.
[Reply]
Brown’s 2-1 partner was Kopi on the left, again. Both times Brownie has shot high and wide right. He’s got a lot of heart and hustle, but not too much vision or skill. Sorry.
[Reply]
Are people actually saying Quick should go? WTF have you been watching all season guys? The main reason the Kings are where they are in the standings is because he stands on his head nightly. This guy is NOT just biding time for Bernier, he’s a legit #1 goalie and Bernier is going to have to do a hell of a lot to unseat him unless he unravels.
It’s one game guys, lets not hike our skirts over our heads and run shrieking into the night here in over-reaction.
[Reply]
Hire a damn power play specialist. Been seeing this lack of pp crap for years. Why is it when I watch other teams on the pp they are constantly moving and passing while the Kings just stand there waiting for something to happen. Extremely frustrating
[Reply]
By the way if the whole team played like Wayne Simmonds, there would be no beating us.
[Reply]
Guys
We lost a friggin game. It was bound to happen eventually.
We didn’t play very well..certainly not well enough to earn points, but it’s not the end of the world.
We played a real good team at home which has imo the best goalie in the game.
Tonights another big game against another hot team. Hopefully we go out there and compete a little better.
the injuries are starting to mount, but that’s no excuse…suck it up and win the game.
[Reply]
I am extremely happy that a most of you are not in our locker room. We hit a little adversity and you guys are ready to hit the panic button. You know who you are. The road to success in this league ain’t easy. There are going to be setbacks. I would hate to be a teammate of someone who freaks out at every single setback. I know many of you are passionate, but jeez save the drama. I hope our young kids don’t read this blog and the negativity thrown at them by some of you so-called fans. You are the same fans who said we would freefall in the standings without Smyth. Didn’t happen. did it? Truly great teams and players are those that can keep an even keel through these times, not the ones that point fingers. I agree that we need to approve in some areas and no one or team is above criticism. We came in 1st in the West, way better than any of us thought they would be. We are out two key forwards in one of the leagues toughest buildings. Save the extreme criticisms for when they are actually warranted.
PS. R.E.M. Aka Corey Price’s mother.
Your boy ain’t going anywhere. He will continue to languish in Montreal.
[Reply]
No problem Cynic. We all want the best EVERY night, but the reality is unfortunately we’re gonna suck a few nights here and there. TM definitely makes some puzzling moves in regards to line-mates, who’s out there in certain situations, etc, but ultimately his job’s made a whole lot easier if each and every player takes that personal responsibility to bring his A-game every night. It’s easy for me/us to sit in front of the tv and be a back-seat-driver, and I guess that’s what these blogging sites are for, but I’m really proud of this years squad and honestly pleasantly surprised with the year so far. It’s gonna be a long one my friend and probably a real nail biter the closer we get to the playoffs. I’m excited, I’m ready, let’s just hope and pray we’re healthy at the end!!! As far as the team goes we need to stay positive while still holding ‘em responsible for the ultimate outcome.
PEACE!
GO KINGS!!!
PS-
I was a Purcell fan last year and do think he has some good usable skills… BUT at this point I really think, as a player and for his future, he needs to go back down and get his game calmed down and back together. He REALLY seems lost out there. I think this would be very valuable… if he can get his game back, then hopefully he’s ready should we need to bring him up TO CONTRIBUTE later in the year. So in other words I guess I’m wondering, do you think since he’s not really contributing would we CURRENTLY be just as good with a call-up in his place while allowing him some time to get it together, or should we just keep him up and keep hoping he pulls out of his funk???
Well said HBFan, well said!!!
