I have got to be honest with you all. Terry Murray tried to giv ethat game away. What was Purcell doing all night that Murray said 54 get your butt on the 1st line? Then, are you kidding me Ivanans in the 3rd period again? This guy is done – finished and should never work in this town again. If not for Quick we lose this game. Also what is with the 3 on 3 in OT? Who plays behind the net? Why would we go behind the net and try a centering pass? If it does not connect dont we put ourselves in a really bad position then? Not getting the strategy

Well “I’m just saying”, we won. I’m done second guessing the coaches, the players, or DL. They are better than we thought possible. The depth and passion is showing.

Purcell actually had good 1st and 2nd period, making nice outlet pass, getting shot on goal, offensively effective I thought. But in 3rd period with Kopi and Willie line, he was out-muscled and got knock down by Dallas player, missed shot on Willies pass and was unable to keep the cycle down low. Maybe it was line match up that cought him. But I thought it was clearly TM’s miss-direction to mix up the line like that since Fro was showing good chemistry between Willie and Kopi. It wasn’t the time for experiment when the 1st place in conference on the line. Kings won that sure is good but was also lucky too.

I couldnt agree more with IJS and putting brown on the PS continues to be a poor decision…he is not a finisher on the PS

And even though team is in 1st place in western conference, there’s no time to get comfortable. Look at all those tie game going into OT and 1 goal game throughout the league. That means we have a very tight season and every team even Sucks … no Ducks still has a shot for play-off. Keep up the good work boys.

ABOUT THE SHOOTOUT – i still dont get why TM overlooks frolov all the time??

  7. 54FIGHTING says:

Because Frolov sucks at the shootout and on breakaways. That’s why.

For all those that are going to lament not being able to see games on t.v. Yahoo Sports will be showing the Vancouver game. Just go to yahoo sports nhl and click the link on Monday – Enjoy.

Quick finally stole a game for us. Williams has been awesome. He’s very aggresive on the puck in the corners and makes great decisions with it there.

Time for DD2 to come back in and Jones to sit.

Read on TSN Canada that Simmers is having knee surgery on Monday. TM said he’s “getting his miniscus clipped”. WOW! He’ll be out for a while. I’m bummed!

  9. holly says:

Yeah, we’ve known about the surgery for hours.

I just read the game story, which says the Kings are atop the conference standings for the first time this season. Didn’t they lead the conference for a little while really early in the season? I know they led the division, but I thought it was the conference, too.

  11. Bingram says:

First place in the Western Confernece, my but that sounds goog. I hope the entire team is of the same attitude as Matt Green, because it IS still early. The regular season isn’t half over.

As I’ve said before, this Los Angeles Kings Hockey team is a lot of fun to watch. And, given the injuries to and youth of this team, if they keep their feet on the gound (skates on the ice?) they will continue to improve. As injured players return, the team will also get stronger. Clearly this year Kings are vastly improved. From last years team, when no Kings lead was safe, to this years team that seldom looses when leading after two periods. This is a team that has learned something about defense. Thank you TM.

The addition of Smyth and Scuderi, highly skilled mature (but not old) veterans. I think we all understand their contributions. Thank you DL.

Tough three game road trip to Canada. Lets go Kings, keep up the good work.

    Go Kings Go!!

Had a chance to go to the game and it was exciting! I can’t believe there are still people complaining on this blog. How much does this team need to do to stop you from complaining? But I’m not going to dwell on that. We’re first in the Pacific and the West and we’re winning games. I think I’m dreaming.

Oh and thank you as always Rich! I hope I see you at a game one of these days so I can thank you in person.

  13. Darrell says:

For all the talk about the “loser point” and its effect on the standings, it has to be said we wouldn’t be in the position we are in if it wasn’t for the shootout win. These wins count just as much as a hard-fought regulation win in the tiebreakers, but are based on not much more than a coin flip. Quick has been stellar so far, but we could just as easily be 0-8. If that had happened, we’d be behind Phoenix right now.

Seeing as there are no shootouts in the Playoffs, this team better figure out how to play better hockey or they’re going to have a rude awakening when they finally get there. I’m glad Greene has the right perspective on things.

Well bro, Smyth is soon to be back and the wheels haven’t fallen off like you had projected. You ready to admit that maybe you were a overreacting just a little bit, or were you just using reverse psychology, hoping that it would lead to the performance we’ve seen?

Think you’re going to have to question the player that was playing behind the net, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t TM behind there. Plus it was TM who decided to start Quick over Ersberg so I guess TM was responsible for the win as well. While you state like it was fact that TM tried to give the game away, the evidence just isn’t all there.

This team is playing great. We still have areas to work on though. PP and PK (although the PK has been great of late too). As we head to the playoffs we need good/great special teams. Keep it up boys!

kingsKnight, there’s always room for improvement. And until they win the Cup, there’s always reason to complain. Here’s one to rile you, cuz it’s about Frolov (who scored). Should I/we be happy just because he scored? Well soon after he did so, he comes down with the puck in the middle of a 3-on-2. He comes across the blue-line with decent speed and the defenders are split–the middle is OPEN. All he needs to do is just put on a mini-burst of speed and he’s in all alone. But what does he do? Passes it to the wing and the play falls apart. So should I/we be happy that he scored or complain because, well, because he’s Frolov and won’t go to the net with the puck? Winning is nice, but there is plenty of room for improvement; thus the complaints.

    Hey Rich: (or anyone else)

When was the last time our boys sat atop the western conference?

    Thanks!

  19. Stillkingly says:

Frolov was trying to return the favor to williams with that pass.

I agree. should have shot it (but it didnt look like he had space to walk in)

  20. Tacks says:

Imagine if Brown just thought about passing?

    [Reply]

  21. BringBackTheShieldJersey says:

Stillkingly, nope, it wasn’t a “walk in”, he would have had to fight a bit for it. But it was a fight he could have won, and more tellingly, a fight that he shied away from.

  22. Kenny says:

I’m still baffled why Brown is on the shootouts but I love JMFJ on the shootout. I know Simmonds and Smyth are out, but why not Doughty and Zus more often? Oh, and has anyone else noticed how much of a puck hog Williams has become?

  23. RJC76 says:

    SheildJersey

You’re right that there is room for improvement. 2 of the last 3 games should not have gone to OT or the SO if they could have held the lead in the 3rd.

On the other hand I think just the fact that we are in 1st and have found all different kinds of ways to win in the last 10 games is reason to be fairly optimistic. And while there is room for improvement, some of the complaints have been just silly.

Nice little by TSN’s ‘The Reporters’ Video Segment this morning. They are talking about bthe biggest surprises & Disappointments of the season so far. They start off talking about Phoenix, but they go right into talking about the Kings and have lots of nice things to say, including that they all believe LA is a playoff team. Nice to watch and get some love from the Canadian Media for a change. Now I wonder if we’ll see it in their power rankings tomorrow.

Of course, no one is perfect and we can all improve. But last year we would have lost in OT or the shootout. The year before we would not have made it to overtime. The fact is that we are a completly different team than we were a year and one half ago. I cannot remember the last time the last time the team took a night off, a common occurance a year and a half ago. So, let’s be thankful for having an incredible coach. TM has to be a finalist for coach of the year, although I think he actually did a better job last year.
The fact is the players believe in TM even if there are a couple of posters who do not.

I don’t have any problems with Frolov right now. I wouldn’t be surprised to see DL sign him for the same $ he is getting now. He’s also showed some great emotion over the last few games. Considering he’s going back to the 3rd line soon, he’s playing great – although I wish he’d stop falling down/getting knocked down.

@Kenny – Williams was our best player lately (besides Simmer) and has been great on the 1/2 boards and behind the net. He’s making any doubt Anthonyy had in the POS/Williams trade disappear hence no posts from him.
