Simmonds injured

Wayne Simmonds will be out, for an undetermined period of time, with a lower-body injury. Terry Murray said Simmonds will see a doctor today, after which a timetable for his return might be set.

The Kings will go with Richardson, Handzus and Parse on the third line, and Ivanans, Moller and Harrold on the fourth. Ryan Smyth has not yet been cleared to play.

At the time that Smyth went down, I was worried; most of us were, actually. And the amazing scoring from the first line did indeed take a hit. Simmonds was one of the guys who stepped up and helped ameliorate the scoring shortfall.

This injury worries me just as much and perhaps even a bit more. This guy brings such amazing pressure on the other team just about every shift. Who’s going to step up for Wayne?

Terrible timing and a big loss to the squad. In many respects, Simmonds has taken over for Brown as our character and team leader guy. He will be missed.

On a positive note: section 108, row 12 tickets available for tonight’s game for $20 at barrys.

On the brightside, the franchise now has depth as evidenced by the teams record with Scuderi and Smyth so the loss of Simmonds isnt the death knell by any stretch. I lamented that in the best season the Kings have had seemingly since Woodstock, that there are going to be 2 prolonged play stoppages-players with injuries like these will have additional time to rest and heal.

Wow, the plot thickens. More obstacles for the team to overcome. Simmonds is young and resilient, he will be back before you know it. This is an opportunity for Moller to shine. I am sure Parse will take his game to another level as well.

Bad news, bad timing. I think its the injury curse of Coach Murray. First Andy, now Terry. This is a tough team tho, and they’ve carried on valiently so far. Its time for Anze and Dustin to really pick up the slack, reguardless of who they are playing against or with.

  22. AK47 says:

Ya this is horrible news man, Simmonds has been a horse for us. Dang, that 4th line is really gross man, Ivanans-Moller-Harrold? I think they should call Marc-André Cliche up or Kevin Westgarth, Cliche scored 2 goal last night and he’s been playing well of late, alot of people dont know this but Cliche actually played on the Canadian Junior squad like 4 years ago (maybe 3), so he was a good prospect and DL actually mentioned him in one of the interviews with Rich, so maybe this guy is like a diamond in the rough type of guy, you never know nowadays anyways, Scott Parse is a perfect example. TM didn’t even let the kid play during training camp, pfft

Hopefully, Smyth is well and ready to play in the next few games.

Richardson – who has been playing well as of late – is actually a decent replacement for Simmonds. No one can truly replace a very unique player like Simmonds, but Richardson is probably as good as anyone we have on the team for that same kind of role. Let’s see how he does.

Just a quirky suggestion: but why don’t you have some ticket giveaways on this board?

Hey guys here is more about the injury. Murray says it wasn’t a game or specific situation, so who knows what this injury is. Check it out. BTW< this is the first game he will have missed in his 115 game career, and he leads the Kings with a +/- 13…..

This guy is what our team is all about. I get excited to see him work in the corner, b/c I trust he will make it happen. Can't say that for a lot of others.

  39. goldielocks says:

Oh, no … it’s like we lost a dynamo. Certainly a power down. Big test for other guys or who replaces him. But I believe this team can get job done without him. let’s just hope his injury is not that serious.

  40. DellaNooch says:

Maybe Simmer was the player with the “bad bruise” that caused us to bring up Moller…His injury freaks me out a bit, Simmer brings a little bit of everything to the Kings, but his competitiveness is unreal, it’s hard not to give it your all when you see a guy like that on a shift before you. As others have stated before, time for the rest of the guys to pick it up.

On a side note, the injuries this season have highlighted the biggest difference between Lombardi and Dave Taylor, we actually have players in the minors that can come up and fill in, which Taylor didn’t have…and in my opinion, that’s why Andy Murray lost his job.

Worst player to lose to injury outside of Quick or Doughty. Just detrimental. He was the main reason we stayed afloat after Kopitar went on vacation.

Another way to look at it…This gives Richie a chance to get some serious consistent minutes, and hopefully build up more of his confidence, the same way Simmer stepped up when Smyth went down.

  45. AZ King says:

To expand of my post, I think a huge part of the growth of this team is guys stepping up when someone else is down. I get the feeling this team is really playing for each other and in this together for the first time in a while.

We need Kopi to start earning his worth.

If we are ever going to contend, he needs to learn to produce, the playoffs are tighter checking than the regular season. If he cant figure it out now, its only going to go down hill from here on out.

He looks like he coasts? Or is it just the way he skates, and he is moving faster than it looks?

Its time for our best players to be our best players.

  48. Lanny McDonald's 'Stache says:

Who would have thought that Simmer would ascend so far so quickly. His absence is now pretty devastating to the team. Surely we can continue to play well while he heals, but we just lost a night-in, night-out impact player.

Don’t start with the stupid predictions. Another ‘fan’ that has no faith in this team. The Kings will adjust and be fine. One thing will help is Dallas going into the shootout last night. Hopefully they’ll be a little worn out. Maybe they’ll put Auld back in goal and Kopi an get another hat trick on him.

I do not think this is true.We miss playoff for several years already ….Hey our lifes are short ,you know that!!1 and btw …nobady here talks about THE Cup.That is still far away dream for us.ducks get cup head of scedule and maybe SJ….SJ (???) is #1 now.Who could predict that several years ago.they are head of scedule,

  66. holly says:

Personally, I don’t see a Cliche or Westgarth call up for Simmonds (if it comes to that) being successful. Yes, both have been producing, but neither one of them would fulfill the Simmer role. Cliche would be closer but… Well, if they call Cliche up that’d leave Gauthier as the only currently skating “leader”. Obviously there are guys that DON’T have letters on their jersey that are leaders, but I just don’t know if any of them could step up to the role that Cliche has taken on the bench. I see Gauthier’s A as being more of a tenure thing than an actual leadership thing. Bagnall and Cliche on the other hand have definitely been guys that really have taken the reigns as players.

  67. Sergei Prozacutov says:

Potentially crushing blow to the team.

How do you replace a player such as this?

    It is hard, but
    on a deep team,
you can do it by committee,
like Manchester has been doing it lately.

With an insane work ethic from EVERYBODY,
    it can be done.

    But it won’t be easy.
