Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on why he told the players they could be in first place with two points…)

MURRAY: “To really put some great meaning on the game. As a group, we’ve been playing very well lately. Actually, some tremendous wins through some very tough stretches of games. Then, to have that right on your plate, to be able to reach out and grab it, is pretty exciting. I’m not trying to motivate the players by saying that, but certainly I want them to be aware that there’s a good thing, right there, if you just go out and play hard and get a win here tonight.”

(on his game thoughts…)

MURRAY: “They [the Stars] played well. They had some real good opportunities in the early part of the game, maybe the first two periods. Quick was very good, and gave us an opportunity to come back. The goal at the end of the second period, by Kopitar, was obviously a huge goal for us. Seven seconds left, and it energized our guys. I thought we came out and played much better in the third period.”

(on the Kings’ slow start…)

MURRAY: “I was surprised. The day off yesterday, I thought, would be good for us. Maybe we’re a team that needs to get on the ice every day. We’ve got a young group of guys, and sometimes days off are hard to figure out what to do with. But anyway, the bottom line is, we got two points, and that’s good.”

(on winning without playing their best…)

MURRAY: “Good goaltending, tonight. That’s usually what it says. Whenever you’re not playing well as a team, you don’t have good cohesion in moving the puck and attacking. I thought part of the problem was just getting going on our breakouts. We were too high in our zone. We were trying to force plays to our wingers. Our wingers were covered over the top. They were turning it back over, and right back at us again. I think, as we got going at the end of the second and the early part of the third, we started to get five guys lower and got more of an organized attack going.”

If Jonathan Quick isn’t one of the NHL’s Three Stars for this week, someone in the NHL isn’t paying attention. Three win against three tough opponents broken up by Ersberg’s win in San Jose. That save against Ribiero in the third was outstanding, and more satisfying to come up with it against that particular guy.

Tm. Don’t let the players take days off. If they need energy I will personally buy a case of redbull for the team. Practice makes perfect and that makes us number 1 in the pacific. KINGS RULE!!!!!

Does anyone know if there is a way to get this blog on a mobile phone running WM6.1? Like a text or mobile version of this site?
I see an rss feed, I don’t know what the heck that is. Tried it, it don’t work on my phone.

I’d be interested to hear Dallas’ comments on Ribeiro’s shootout attempt. I think it was clearly a pokecheck by Quick that rebounded to Ribeiro’s skate. Refs made the right call.

I believe you’ll need to download a browser such as opera mini to your phone.

Can’t believe Quick wasn’t one of the 3 stars of the game. Is the press not watching?

Justin Williams fully deserves the #1 star though. AWESOME game by him.

Quick won this game for us tonight. Hey Carol, do you still feel the same about Quick after that performance tonight? I just don’t see how you could.

Tied for 1st place in the Pacific Division AND Conference. Am I dreaming? If so, I’d like to stay asleep as we win the cup THIS season. If I am dreaming, why not go for it all while I have some control.

    Rich,

I beg of you, please find a way to ask TM his thoughts on Ivanans’ continued detrimental play. He has little hope of contributing offensively yet takes an offensive zone penalty at least every other game. I NEED to know what goes on in TM’s head when it comes to that, and why he continues to give him shifts. Get an honest answer out of him and I promise to keep my mouth shut the rest of the season.

    Please and thank you!

I am not an Ivanans supporter, but he was screwed on that penalty call. It was clearly two guys “hand-fighting” for possession, no advantage was gained, and they were in equal position going for the puck. The Dallas guy even got the puck, it was clearly a call that isn’t made if it was Modano against Kopitar in the same situation.

    Rich,

When the news media lost you, they lost their only truly intelligent member with a hockey IQ (and yes, I include Helene Elliot in that HOF or not).

For them to select Brad Richardson as the third star of the game and not select Quick as a star AT ALL when he actually was the best player on the ice for either team and deserved to be the #1 star overall is a telling sign of the overall lack of understanding much of the local media has had over the years for this sport.

Jim Fox himself said a few times during the night (paraphrasing), “Jonathan Quick played his best game of the year tonite.” Justin Williams during his on-ice interview said, “Their goalie was good, but ours was great tonite!” Terry Murray in his post game quotes said, “When you’re not playing your best hockey and you win, it’s goaltending.”

I don’t know what the guy has to do to get respect in this town. Especially with half the fans clamoring for Bernier all the time when they have a guy who’s put this team on his shoulders the last two weeks and WILLED them to 15 out of the last 16 points!

Jon Quick is the best Kings goalie that ever came through the Kings system. Period!

No question of Murray of why he pulled Frolov off the 1st lime? Really? Jim Fox made a comment about it – a pointed one, as if to express surprise. Frolov was asked about it in the post game interview by Jim and Patrick. One fan commented that they saw Murray laying into Frolov after a play while others have surmised whether it was due to the 3rd line’s defensive struggles.

The body may be too cold to ask now, but it seemed like a particularly relevant (though difficult) question.
