We stole that game lol, that should’ve been a goal
[Reply]
Glad Jim Fox got it wrong this time.
I’m now 4 and 0 when betting on the Kings
[Reply]
that was ABSOLUTELY a kick in
amazing foxy thought otherwise
no question
no goal!
[Reply]
Unbelievable, we are in 1st place in the Western Conference without Ryan Smyth in the line up. How awesome is this team!!!
[Reply]
Good game overall. I think they ruled it was a rebound on that goal when I was trying to read the refs lips talking to the Dallas player. Not sure though.
The boys need to give Quick more support on those shootouts. They can’t expect him to be perfect all the time.
[Reply]
Wooo! 1st place baby!
[Reply]
hahahahahaha 1st place man, that’s actually nuts. Wayne Simmonds and Ryan Smyth were out and we still won, Quick was on top of his game
[Reply]
Why no live for quick? He should at least be a star and I think the first star.
[Reply]
here on the east coast it’s officially sunday a.m. – so since it isn’t sunday the kings break the saturday jinx!! YAYYY!! So variable, maybe There is the karma for Ribeiro’s celebration for that last SO goal celebration
[Reply]
1st in Division, 1st in Conference, Kings find ways to win. Must be time to fire the coach.
[Reply]
I meant since it isn’t saturday… urgh…. i’m tired
[Reply]
dman,
I’m one of the guys that think Terry Murray should get fired, cuz what he’s doing now is what he should’ve done last year and this year. This team is so skilled man, I knew they were capable of doing what they’re doing
[Reply]
ok foot in my mouth, i doubted this game from the beginning. Quick is a beast man!! god it feels great.
[Reply]
Wow! Quick stole that game for us. I’d say that since Quick poke checked it that ends the attempt.
[Reply]
Top of the west!!! WHOOO HOOOO!!
[Reply]
I keep refreshing the standings page on NHL.com just to believe what’s actually going on
[Reply]
We are tied with Buffalo for the current longest win steak in the league. (4 games each)
[Reply]
Great win, agreed Quick should have been a star of the game, can’t believe we’re in first place in December, wow.
[Reply]
Have to respectfully disagree AK. I don’t think this team had nearly the composure, experience, or maturity to do this well last season. This is still an awfully young team (2nd in the league) and last year was all about learning a system and getting some growing pains out of the way. Skill is great, but coupled with inexperience does not win hockey games.
[Reply]
TOP OF THE WEST
and here’s my prediction
TSN will have us at no higher than TWELVE on the power rankings!
punks!
[Reply]
Next stop..playoffs!
[Reply]
Why on earth did TM take Fro off the 1st line in the third??? They seemed to be generating good offensive pressure in the second period and that line seemed to sputter with purcell taking Fro’s place.
[Reply]
i also think the rule is stick to skate = rebound…no goal!!!
[Reply]
Az King,
If it wasn’t for that shootout loss against the blues last weekend, we’d be on a 8 game (i think) winning streak
[Reply]
UGH NHL.COM won’t update the new standings……….
[Reply]
KingRob-
I don’t remember seeing much of Parse in the 3rd. That might have something to do with it.
[Reply]
Pssst…… NHL Network… the thud at the door is the 1st Place Los Angeles Kings!!!!
[Reply]
Time to open up your eyes to L.A. Hockey NHL Network
[Reply]
“I’m one of the guys that think Terry Murray should get fired, cuz what he’s doing now is what he should’ve done last year and this year.”
Yeah, that would be a completely freaking brilliant move, firing the coach of a young team tied for first in the division, and just breaking into the league’s elite. Why don’t we ask DL to take a shotgun into the locker room and start shooting at random, while we’re at it?
[Reply]
AK-
Good point. That means we have at least a point in out last 8 games! I keep doing the same thing on NHL.com. We’ll have to wait til the morning to see it change.
Side note- In his 3 games this wee Quick has a 1.58 GAA and .941 SV%. Sweet numbers.
[Reply]
Matt,
I sent the guy Cullen an e-mail a little while ago when i was surprised at his standings… This time around I have no doubt we will be in the top 6. No doubt!
[Reply]
Sometimes we see them shake the lines up in the third to try and get things happening. Sometimes different style and sense means that a line gets a bit of a shock to the system.
And I can absolutely see why Murray did it. We’ve seen all season that even while cutting down on Purcell’s minutes, Murray has spoken to his skill and hockey sense. And we’ve also seen off and on that Murray isn’t necessarily thrilled with the fact that Fro doesn’t drink the kool-aid.
[Reply]
1st in the west and the ducks are last in the west!!! early Xmas for all of us!
quick was amazing tonight and has been getting better every game it seems!!
[Reply]
I’m as happy as anyone that we are winning, but no one should feel comfortable that we are doing it lately via the shoot out or in OT. Too easy for the pendulum to swing the other way…..
[Reply]
FINALLLY! Updated standings on NHL.com, LOVE IT
[Reply]
NHL.com has it up! Kings top of west. printing the page to put on the wall now. lol
[Reply]
Anybody know when was the last time the Kings were first in the Western Conference…It has to have been awhile…
[Reply]
Hopefully Smyth is back Monday and we beat those damn Canucks!
[Reply]
hahahahahahah probably since the year they went to the finals.. Nah, I’m over exaggerating, there must’ve been a moment where they started off strong
[Reply]
I wasn’t sure about TM’s move over Kopi-Williams-Purcell line in 3rd period. Purcell seemed to have hard time to keep up with Kopi and Willie. He wasn’t turning over the puck but was unable to keep cycle goes on and get shot on that Willie’s Juicy pass right in high slot. Fro could have put it on the goal. Well, overall it was a good game. Our boys fought hard and win again. 1st place in western conference! Since when???
[Reply]
Scotty Bowman used to shuffle lines and positions all the time, and it seemed to work out well for him. I don’t understand it myself, but I certainly am not in a position to scrutinize it. Whatever Murray is doing is working.
AK if you really need that fix, ESPN has the standings updated!
[Reply]
The OT’s are just practice sessions for the real thing in April…… yahooooie
[Reply]
TSN has their updated page as well
[Reply]
Did anyone see that puck go in when it was one all in the first? i think Brown took the shot? Bob and Jim said in would definitely be replayed and…it never was. The stars scored shortly after.???
[Reply]
Kings were in first I believe when they won the opener in London against the ducks with bernier in goal. Doesn’t really count but…
[Reply]
8-1-1 in their last ten is incredible, especially given the teams the Kings have played in that stretch. The NHL should name Quick one of their stars of the week. Burnside also better give the Kings some love in his rankings on Monday.
[Reply]
we were in 1st place in the conference a few years back when we won the 1st game against the ducks in london lol!
[Reply]
LOL. Rangers looking to bring Beachball back as a back-up? WHY?!
[Reply]
Back a few years ago when detroit was SICK. We were second in the league around christmas and then injuries occured and we failed to make the playoffs. Second in the League to not making the playoffs… This spurred the beginning of the end of taylor and Andy Murray and then the beginning of the dean Lombardi era
[Reply]
Let’s rephrase that..when was the last time the Kings were in first place in the conference having played more than 5 games….:)…geez, I had to check the math a couple times before I was convinced…
[Reply]
The ESPN NHL front page is a picture of Jonathan Quick!
So weird to look at the standings right now… I can hardly believe it!
Go Kings!!!!
[Reply]
Mr. Hock.
I remember and it is funny when close plays happen how often the other team comes down and scores… That being said i never did see the replay but I have a feeling Toronto did and nothing further was mentioned…
[Reply]
I think we were briefly in first place at the beginning of Andy’s last season as coach, but I can’t remember the last time we were in first in December or later.
[Reply]
We’re not playing our best hockey, but still getting W’s. That is a sign of reaching a whole new level. Hopefully when we get Smyth back we also get Kopi back=contenders.
[Reply]
AZ- The Kings have the 2nd Longest Active win streak at the moment behind the Oilers’ 5 game win streak and the Sabers’ win streak is only at 3.
Mr. Hockey- Bob and Jim made mention just before Modano’s goal that the guys in the truck just looked it over and all it did was hit the post and bounce right out. It never crossed the goal line.
Sorry for the late messages.. was busy collecting my winnings for the game.
[Reply]
Mr. Hockey, Bob reported that the crew in the truck reviewed the shot and it was no goal. It was probably reviewed upstairs as well and since it didn’t go in, no need to change anything but I was surprised that no one from the Kings came over to the scorers table to question the call.
Also, how can anyone doubt the value of Justin Williams? The guy may not be as sniperish as O’Sully but there is no way that his value can be questioned. He is simply a more complete player with more team helping skills.
[Reply]
At the game, the officials reviewed the last shoot attempt from Dallas and ruled the puck went in off a rebound shot.
[Reply]
Man! Handzus may not look graceful skating but the guy has some nice hands… I was at the game and was hoping TM would put him in after Kopi, JJ and Brownie failed to score…
With the Kings assuming first place I can’t help but thing of the last few agonizing years waiting to see if DL’s plan works. It’s a bit premature but I think we might be seeing what he was envisioning some years back. (Hiring Crawfish and signing Cloutier not withstanding)
I can’t help but think about how Mitch Kupchak was skewered for his player decisions and vilified for letting Shaq and Phil Jackson walk. Just a few seasons later he reloads and wins and suddenly he’s the biggest genius. I wonder if DL will be viewed the same way if this train keeps running on schedule?…
[Reply]
Nick Nickson needs to back away from the cough medicine. How could Quick not be the first star let alone not even in the top 3? Willams wasn’t even that good tonight.
Rickardson is looking better and better.
JJ sucked.
Harold put in the effort, but just isn’t built for the NHL.
Evanon sucked.
Was at the game and we were terrible most the night, but Quick was AMAZING. He is the real deal.
I thought Purcel looked better than Fro on the Kopitar line and I thought Fro look better on the other line. Good move TM.
[Reply]
I just can’t wrap my head around why Dustin Brown is slotted for the shootout other than as a courtesy to the team captain. He can hardly finish with traffic distracting the opposing goaltender; one on one, he is sure to go down like eldrick in an ambien haze.
[Reply]
Agree. Waist high snap shot is echl. Atleast throw in a stutter step shoulder fake prior to laying a pancake into his glove
[Reply]
NUMBER 6…
great to hear from you…
i had to leave with 5 mins left in the third to go to a show…sorry this is late…
yeah…just desserts for ribeiro…:)
it’s early…but you have to start getting the feeling that this team could be capable of great things…
i hope it’s more than just a personal bias or wishful thinking, but when healthy, i believe that this team is as good as any in the league…
yes, it’s true…we have a really good team, los angeles…
and despite of what you think will happen in the future…as of december 1, 2009, our los angeles kings are in first place with a shadow of their regular line up in place…
who would of thought this would happen…?
it’s time to enjoy the moment and look forward to greater accomplishments…
[Reply]
sorry…december 13…
too much jim beam and stone ipa/stella…
cheers…!!!
[Reply]
Hi VARIABLE…. don’t even know if you’ll be checking back to this thread on Sun a.m. but what the heck. Sounds like you’re doin some ‘holiday carousing’ or whatever one would call it. Yep, Kings are showing something for sure. Seems they weren’t brilliant last night, but Quicker was. Whatever is happening they seem to be doing something right. The good teams seem to find a way to win when they don’t play their best.
[Reply]
KC not sure what game you were watching. Williams wasn’t that good? Williams was great all night and this comes from a Patty O supporter (until he trashed us to the Edmonton press a month or so ago).
Ivanans needs to see a suit in the seats. He takes that same penalty almost every game he’s in. I know he’s not paid to be a brain surgeon but come on dude.
Quick has been the man lately and deserves any accolades he gets.
I don’t see why TM keeps tossing DB and AK in the shootout even though they’re horrible the past 5. Fro hasn’t had a sniff in a long time and they went 8 rounds the other day for Pete’s sake.
I didn’t get the Purcell to the top line either. I keep hoping that goal he scored brings him to life but I’m not seeing it yet.
Defense needs to be smarter and not turn over the puck in their own end.
Give Quick some support in those shootouts!
[Reply]
As one who has been critical of Williams at times in the past, let me publicly state that I thought he was terrific last night. He was all over the place, repeatedly beating others to the puck, making excellent decisions, and really having a presence on the ice all night. He got the first star, and deserved it.
[Reply]
I read this blog daily but don’t normally comment, but KC23s comment just amazed me. Just Williams was a beast last night. By far the best game I’ve seen him play. And NO, Purcell did not play better on Kopi’s line than Fro. Williams and Kopi had several good cycles going and almost every time the puck got to Purcell, he lost it. He played ok on the other line, but could not keep up with Kopi and Williams last night. Quick was awesome as well, so i don’t have a problem with either of them being the #1 Star.
