That wasn’t JJ’s Stick, its a universal cheap stick they give out now. Much like San Jose does. I think it’s completely dumb and I blame San Jose and the Ducks for it.

Come on Kings, just cause your winning now doesn’t mean you need to cut marketing with the fans! Well I guess it does, but come on!!!!

Now here is a stat pack:

First in the West to 20 wins

1 point behing San Jose. that puts us at 2nd in the Western Conference, but 4th due to the division leaders taking up the top 3. Tied for 3rd in the NHL in points.

102 goals tied for 3rd in the NHL for goals with Pittsburg.

14-0-0 when leading after 2. Tied with NJ for best in the league when leading after 2.

    NOW THIS IS IMPRESSIVE.

Glad the Kings won! But we need to stop letting the opposing team get a chance to win. I hope they improve that aspect.

When Smyth returns, were are going to be one very serious team. With him, everything seems easier. We get more assist, goals, chances, etc. I’m super stoked that our secondary scoring is great. Quick is awesome!! He is always giving us a chance to win.

    Kings future seems bright!!

It’s truly scary what this team will be capable of with a healthy Ryan Smyth added to this already potent lineup.

  56. DBargaehr says:

-With Smyth out and our top scorers not hitting the back of the net too much, it really helps to have the 3rd and 4th contributing that much. Simmonds/Parse/Zeus looked, for the most part, a lot more controlled in both their neutral zone breakins and their offensive zone (just passing in general, too) than the top line did. Parse and Simmonds seem to have a ridiculous passing chemistry, but that may just be Simmonds’ “heads-up” mentality this year – he seems to be much more aware of what’s going on at any given moment on the ice.

-Is it just me, or has the defense contributed enormously to scoring this season, more so than last?

-I think it was Jim Fox who brought up a great point about the roster…when Smyth gets back, who do the Kings drop in terms of forwards? He seemed to break it down to one of these: Moller/Parse/Purcell…I don’t think TM would drop Purcell even though he’s struggling (I would think that TM would give him a half-season at least to prove himself), and frankly Parse and Simmonds are just playing too well together to break up. I’d guess Moller, the poor guy gets bounced between the leagues like a ping-pong ball in a clothes dryer. I’d almost prefer Ivanans, but Lord knows that TM won’t give up His Goonship anytime soon.

    [Reply]

  57. Cry Baby says:

Kevin…really? Don’t you think you are getting ahead of yourself?

I love it. It’s like after the Pit game. People planning a parade and gloating over a win and not a week a later poeple wanted TM fired. Get over it. This was a win, the Kings got 2 points and that is it. Next game is next game, anything can happen. The Kings have three more games played than most of the conference. This is a long season that is less than half played.

I thought it was DD worst game of the year myself (except that shoot out goal was sweet). Him and Scuderi did not have a very good game imho.

JJ had his best game of the year. Props to him.

Kopitar looks slow and average. He looks like the weak link on that line atm. Fro had one of his better games.

Quick looks fantastic, but still gives up rebounds to dangereous parts of the ice.

Was a good move to put in that 7th defenseman, but thought that Brown and Kopitar were poor selections for the shoot out, neither played well enough to deserve it.

Kings are proving they clearly are a team that no one will want to play in the playoffs.

Got good seats to the Dallas game, so looking forward to that.

    [Reply]

  60. Kevin says:

Cry I know I may be getting ahead of myself, but I am liking the look more and more right now… the Kings are finding ways to score and win games without a potent memeber of the offense and the rest of that line just coming up short at the moment.

A big confidence booster for the Kings right now is their play. They are without Smyth now for about a month now and have gone 7-3-1 in that stretch. They have been playing like a team possessed right now. They are proving to the league that even though you drop one of our big guns we can still beat you. They have just beaten the top 3 teams in the Western Conference, CHI, CAL, and SJ in the last 2 weeks. They have just been abusing the Pacific Division all season long (8-1-1) and it looks like there is no stopping them.

IMHO the only way to stop the Kings would be to put Quick and probably JJ or DD on the shelf for the better part of the next 2 months.

Yep. Doughty made some turn-overs but he bailed himself out with SO goal. Another roller coaster game but was fun to watch. Most importantly we got 2 points. Attaboy!

  62. Joel says:

What a great game for my first trip to Staples of the year.

Quick was the reason for the two points. He should have been swapped as the first star over JMFJ.

For some reason, Doughty just doesn’t have his best games against Phoenix. I’m not saying he was bad, but his passes didn’t seem as crisp, and if he didn’t get caught jumping, Upshall wouldn’t have scored that first goal.

I was shocked Fro didn’t find the back of the net at least once. He had a lot of opportunities.

Phoenix’s defense is for real. In my opinion, Tippett will be coach of the year and not TM. LA was fortunate to get 2 points out of this, because I think Phoenix outplayed them the last 2 periods.

    [Reply]

  63. EternalOptimist says:

Another gutty, resilient effort… it’s amazing how the team is able to pull out a win without actually playing their best for 60 mins and how a different group of guys are chipping in goals every game. We definitely will remain in the top 4 as long as we continue to get good goaltending and balanced scoring.

I agree that it was DD’s worst game since the first game of the season(ironically against Phoenix as well). I bet he will bounce back with a tremendous effort on Saturday.

Very exciting(and nerve racking) shootout… note to team, it’s almost impossible to beat Bryzgalov 5 hole so aim high :-) !

    [Reply]

  64. IceGuy says:

Is it just me. or did I see a Kings D man near the point launch a really nastyfast shot at the goalie tonight? Hmmm Shades of “he who cannot be mentioned” indeed. And up in SJ, their announcer exclaimed (not a quote, but close), “Doughty leads the rush looking just like a forward!”

JJ. DD. OMFG we’re looking at the future. GKG!

    (Rob who?)

  65. Luc20Rules says:

    Kevin,
Don’t tempt fate by mentioning anyone going on the shelf.
I am seeing the recent addition from manchester staying up and mostly active in the line up. Ivanans will be a Healthy scratch until we play teams with a reputation for taking cheap shots (Anahiem, etc). Greene, Simmons, or OD will likely be asked to step up if fighting is necessary.

    [Reply]

  66. Kevin says:

Luc, I don’t intend for it to be that way, but i really do think atm the Kings are “unstoppable” against the Pacific Division. They look like they could take the Pacific Division this year and might make a deep run into the playoffs. It is only meant as what some teams might be “hoping” for.

    [Reply]

  67. eSteve says:

DD didn’t have an amazing game, that’s for sure, but he’s definitely still the man. His worst game though was against Calgary a couple weeks back when we lost. and YES do know that he got a goal and an assist in that loss but 3 of calgary’s goals were blatantly caused by his mistakes. This is definitely the “sketchiest” i’ve seen him play since then but he did A LOT better recovering from them. Also keep in mind that he played nearly 25min in back to back games.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring some hard earned rest followed by some fresh legs beating the *&%$# out of Dallas

P.S. Am I the only kings fan stoked to see the Ducks tank thus far??

    [Reply]

  68. KC23 says:

Wierd how the Kings and Ducks are always opposite. When one is up the other is down. It sure is making a mockery of the local media’s attempts at creating a rivalrey between the two.

OTOH, we might be seeing the beginning of a huge rivalrey between the Kings and Sharks.

  73. What's the frequency, Kenneth? says:

Now you went and did it…I’ve got a bad feeling about the next game…

I really hate to say it, but I think there will be a let down in energy. I wasn’t worried about their commitment tonight, and it played out a lot like I expected it (though I was pleased with the 2-0 start.) I think they’re going to get surprised by Dallas early, but much like this game, the team that played the night before will get tired sometime in the 2nd period.

Dallas, though, I hope will crack, like the Kings did not. I’d say the first period start is going to be important for the KIngs, but even if they don’t get it, they’ll have a shot to win in the 3rd period…

    …let’s say 4-3 Kings.

  74. KingFan4ever says:

Was it just me or did Scuderi look jittery and hesitant out there? Hate to say it but everytime he touched the puck it seems he was hesitating and didn’t know what to do with the puck? On one play he had an open shot and elected to pass and even then, he had to think about it for a second….
