Familiar Philly foes

Defenseman Randy Jones didn’t spend much time away from the Philadelphia Flyers. Claimed off waivers by the Kings, from the Flyers, on Oct. 29, Jones tonight gets to face his former team, the team with which he played 217 games over parts of the previous five seasons. So far, Jones has two goals, two assists [...]

Scuderi update

Rob Scuderi will miss a third consecutive game with his lower-body injury. Terry Murray said Scuderi was “working out, off ice, in the weight room today and doing all of the movement drills. He’s getting closer. I want to say day to day with him.” Since the injuries to Scuderi and Ryan Smyth leave the [...]

All eyes on Frolov

For as long as Ryan Smyth is out of the lineup, Alexander Frolov will go a long way toward determining how successful the Kings will be. Doesn’t this kind of have the feel of a soap opera? Frolov, last year’s leading scorer, gets benched, comes back, moves up to the top line and…what’s next? Gets [...]

Stepping up for Smyth

Here’s a little more on the Ryan Smyth injury, from Terry Murray and Justin Williams, including some thoughts from each about what the Kings will need to do, in Smyth’s absence, in order to keep winning. With Smyth out, the Kings’ forwards will skate as follows: Frolov-Kopitar-Williams Parse-Stoll-Brown Purcell-Handzus-Simmonds Ivanans-Richardson-Harrold MURRAY: “It could be up [...]

Smyth out up to one month

Ryan Smyth will be out of the lineup for up to one month, Terry Murray said after practice today. Murray would not detail what Smyth’s “upper-body” injury is. As expected, Alexander Frolov will skate on the first line. Teddy Purcell will skate with Handzus and Simmonds. Murray said Rob Scuderi continues to be day to [...]

Before I head to the morning skate, here’s the sixth set of questions and answers. By the way, I had a quick exchange with Dean Lombardi yesterday, asking him if anyone was coming up from Manchester. He said “not yet,” but noted that he’s there now to watch this next set of Monarchs games. Think [...]

Getting back to the Open Forum, here’s the fourth set of questions and answers…

Injury updates

The Kings’ injury updates are not good. Ryan Smyth will not play tomorrow night and will be out “longer than that, for sure,” according to Terry Murray. Smyth, still officially listed with an upper-body injury, is scheduled to see a team doctor tomorrow for an evaluation. Hopefully we’ll know more after that. Murray said Rob [...]

The third set of Open Forum questions and answers…

Bagnall named Monarchs captain

It’s funny, the things you will miss if you’re not specifically looking for them… Today, the Manchester Monarchs named defenseman Drew Bagnall as their captain. Bagnall is 26 and in his third season with the Monarchs, so it’s not difficult to see why he was the choice. In the role, he follows other veteran (and [...]

A couple things, with the team not practicing Tuesday. One, I will still do my best to get an update on both Ryan Smyth and Rob Scuderi, if there are updates to be had. (I’m also going to try to get in touch with Manchester coach Mark Morris to talk some Monarchs). Two, it’s a [...]

I’m happy to report that Los Angeles looks much the same as when I left it. For the early risers, here’s the game story. Thanks for reading… Kings beat Panthers 4-3 in shootout It’s an off day for the players tomorrow…no practice.

Murray postgame quotes

Long flight home now, so look for the complete game story and other stuff in the (very) early morning hours. Thanks! For now, here are Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on Ryan Smyth’s status…) MURRAY: “I don’t have an update, per se. He’s out with an upper-body injury. We’re going to leave now and get back [...]

Doughty postgame quotes

Drew Doughty’s postgame thoughts… (on special-teams success…) DOUGHTY: “We’re doing well in the special teams department. When the season started we were kind of slacking on the power play and the penalty kill, but since then we’ve really pumped it up. We’ve been watching video and working on it in practice, and that has helped [...]

Stoll postgame quotes

Jarret Stoll’s postgame thoughts… (on the 3-2 road trip…) STOLL: “I think we can be happy with that. It was a battle for 3-2. It wasn’t easy, but we got three wins out of it. Anytime you go on the road in tough buildings, and these weren’t easy buildings to play in and win in, [...]

Quick postgame quote

(on winning another shootout…) JONATHAN QUICK: “We got a big goal from JJ. The same thing happened earlier in the year, but just the opposite way. We had two in a row and we lost both of them. So those can really go either way. I think the biggest thing was that this was our [...]

Johnson postgame quotes

Jack Johnson’s postgame thoughts… (on rallying from deficit in third period…) JOHNSON: “There were still 20 minutes left in the hockey game. A lot can happen. Just because you’re down going into the third, there’s no reason to panic. Anything can happen. The team is capable of scoring, and we were definitely very confident going [...]
