Lewis' injury

To follow up on an earlier question, Trevor Lewis is considered “week to week” with an upper-body injury, according to Ian Clark of the Union-Leader. Last night, Manchester lost 2-1 in a shootout against Norfolk. Jonathan Bernier stopped 34 of 35 shots and Brandon Segal had the Monarchs’ only goal. Juraj Simek scored in the [...]

Open forum answers VIII

Another set of the open forum questions and answers…

Open forum answers VII

With the Kings players taking their scheduled day off from practice today, I’ll dip back into the Open Forum questions and answers and, hopefully, finish them today. Here’s the next set…

Martinez sent to Manchester

The Kings this morning activated defenseman Alec Martinez from injured reserve and sent him to Manchester of the AHL. Martinez has been out for more than a month with a high ankle sprain he suffered in practice. I’m not certain if this means Martinez is ready to play. From what I understand, he’s still going [...]

The Frolov experiment

Well, it was interesting. Alexander Frolov, playing on the first line, looked strong on the puck, but he usually does. The problem is, he did exactly what Terry Murray predicted he might do. He often passed the puck out of trouble, instead of trying to take it to the net (or just putting it on [...]

Congrats to Nick Nickson

It’s been a big week for Kings radio play-by-play announcer Nick Nickson and family. Late Tuesday afternoon, Nick became a grandfather for the first time, when Nicholas Casey Nickson was born to Nicholas (Nick’s son) and Alexandra. Also, Wednesday was the 28th anniversary of Nick’s first game with the Kings. Nick did color commentary on [...]

Tonight's game story (Nov. 18)

Here is tonight’s game story, with stats and video included. As always, thanks for reading… Flyers defeat Kings 3-2

Kopitar postgame quotes

Anze Kopitar’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) KOPITAR: “We played decent, but those two breakdowns in the second period cost us the goals. When you’re behind, you’re trying to chase it and that’s what happened.” (on the failed 5-on-3 power play…) KOPITAR: “They sure gained some momentum off that. We got some shots, some not [...]

Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) MURRAY: “We did anticipate a hard game. You know the Flyers are going to come to play. They were playing very well coming into this game. They always give you a big effort. They play hard, they play with grit, and we saw that. We did expect that.” [...]

Doughty postgame quotes

Drew Doughty’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) DOUGHTY: “We didn’t show up to play, and that’s why we lost the game. The first two periods, we weren’t too solid. It wasn’t like we were playing that bad. We just let them have three easy goals. We can’t have that. We talk, and watch video on [...]

FINAL: Flyers 3, Kings 2

Flyers goalie Brian Boucher recorded his third consecutive victory over the Kings and made 37 saves. Jonathan Quick stopped 17 of 20 shots. The Kings had a deflected shot trickle wide of the goal line in the final seconds. More from the locker room ASAP…

Flyers 3, Kings 2

The Kings pulled within one goal with a power-play goal 12:09 into the third period. Drew Doughty ripped a shot, through traffic, from well above the top of the left circle, and beat Boucher.

Flyers 3, Kings 1

The Flyers have the league’s best power play, and they took advantage of it 1:47 into the third period. Braydon Coburn’s point shot went wide, but Quick came out to challenge and couldn’t get back in time as James van Riemsdyk tucked the puck into the net.

End of second: Flyers 2-1

The Flyers have a 10-0-1 record when leading after two periods this season, while the Kings are 3-6 when trailing after two periods.

Flyers 2, Kings 1

Mike Richards nearly fanned on a shot from the slot, but got just enough of the puck to knuckle it past Jonathan Quick and give the Flyers the lead with 1:05 remaining in the second period.

Kings 1, Flyers 1

The Flyers tied the game 7:52 into the second period. Scott Hartnell took a shot from the middle of the right circle. Quick came out to challenge and made the save. but was far off his line when  Mika Pyorala picked up the rebound and scored from a tough angle. Baydon Coburn also got an [...]

End of first: Kings 1-0

The Kings outshot the Flyers 11-6 in the first period, but did next to nothing with a two-man advantage for the final 1:38 of the period. It will be 5-on-3 for the first 22 seconds of the second period.

Kings 1, Flyers 0

With 5:07 remaining in the first period, Jarret Stoll scored one of those “shot-mentality” goals that Terry Murray loves. Stoll carried the puck down low, almost to the end line, and fired a wrist shot that somehow got between Brian Boucher and the near post. Dustin Brown and Scott Parse picked up assists.

New defensive pairs

It’s Doughty with O’Donnell, Johnson with Jones and Greene with Drewiske. There have been a couple outstanding shifts for the Frolov-Kopitar-Williams line, with Kopitar hitting the post a moment ago. Shots are 4-2 Kings, 8:27 into the game.

Flyers not as `sharp'

The Flyers’ Twitter account noted today that Brian Boucher, not “Razor” Ray Emery, will start in goal tonight. Boucher has appeared in only one other game this season, a 4-1 home loss to San Jose on Oct. 25 in which Boucher allowed four goals on 28 shots. Emery had allowed two or fewer goals in [...]
