Terry Murray said Rob Scuderi is still questionable with his lower-body injury. You might remember that initial estimates said Scuderi might not miss a game… Scuderi skated today, and Matt Greene returned as well. Ryan Smyth did another pre-practice skate, this time with Mark Hardy, that looked fairly intense.
More coming soon, including talk about the power play and Jonathan Quick’s play and his new equipment…
Yeah, that is strange about the Scud injury. Perhaps you could find out if he hurt “it” worse after the initial injury or “it” just got worse on it’s own…
I heard Quick mention his pads were the exact same, just a different set. He seemed to think nothing of it…

My initial reaction was a possible MCL sprain or high ankle sprain. Anyway my 2 cents on the slow mo replay the night of the injury. Both injuries are minimum 4 weeks.

^_^ Thanks, Rich.

Thanks Rich! I’ve been wondering why Quick changed his pads and his mask is now repainted! Same idea but a little different (and not includes the kings 3rd logo). I liked his first set of pads this season better.

src — it is a high ankle sprain. Usually, they can take an x-ray and tell the extent by the color differiation in the muscle fiber. The orginal xray may not have shown the full extent of the damage. 6 weeks max.

I love Quick’s new pads. Will look great with the 3rd jersey.
[Reply]
speaking of 3rd jersey, should be there new primary and current be the 3rd. Just as a few teams have done. Philly, edmonton, possibly buffalo, etc.

jet…
Agree, if ‘X-ray’ is replaced by a ‘MRI’.
X-rays show no color differentiation in muscle fiber; it images muscle only with CT scanning, and then without ‘color’.
MRI does demonstrate signal intensity differences in normal muscle vs. injured muscle.

I was wondering about those pads over the weekend. They look to be the same Vaughn model but without graphics. They kinda remind me of early 90′s pads before there was really an emphasis on the graphics. I believe that helmet is a new one that he hasn’t worn for the past month or so, right? He talked about it during a segment about “50 years of goalie masks” last month.
Thanks, Rich!

I love the game Scuds plays and can’t wait for him to get back in there…but who should sit?
I would think they would dress 7 D’men and use Jones on the PP,but who sits..Richardson/Segal/Purcell?
My bet is Purcell.

Eventually we’ll see Randy Jones on the 4th line. File under, It’s Inevitable. LOL

i personally thought Quick’s “goalie in the sunset” icon from last year was awesome….as a starting goalie i think he earns the right to do whatever he pleases on his mask…

New equipment! Wait…like Roenick’s skates?

Randy Jones sits…this really isn’t hard. He is the teams 7th d-man.

Funny! I wonder how JR and his problem skates are handling retirement?
Mrbrett7
I don’t think so because of his versatility..especially on the PP.
He uses JJ/Doughty/Stoll on the PP. Keeping Jones in there gives him the extra point man on the PP.
I like the way Jones plays. I think he’s been a great pickup so far.

Quick can put whatever he wants on his mask as long as he gets the W.

if I ever played Fantasy Hockey my team name would be “Roenick Skates”…it had to be amongst the weirder excuses for a player to perform at such an average level because:
1) I had never heard another NHL’er having the same issue
2) It wasn’t quite clear to me how his skates made him so much slower than other “good-skate” players
3) Couldn’t he just tell the equipment people how he wanted his skates cut?
The one thing I wondered was when Bob and Jim used to calmly speak about such things did they ever think “what a load of @#$@!!” even though they were politely saying out loud “well Jim the skates as you know are an important thing players have to feel….”

Quick’s pads probably have the same specs as his old ones but use the vintage Vaughn graphic, heres a link:

i think roloson when he was in edmonton used this design as well.

Actually, NYKfan…I really do think it’s that easy.
He is the 7th d-man…Jones is versitile, yes…so is Harrold.
[Reply]
Bako — I still have some of my old x rays and it was before MRIs came along. The color differentiation was in gray scale and not true color. Anyway, I was almost always out 6 weeks.

I think he’s a better player than Harrold. Harrold’s versatility comes in the fact that he can go back and forth between O and D. Jone’s can play all different situations on D.
Both are important. I just think it comes down to Jones ability to make plays.
