I’ll have a couple things later today, but first, please check out my weekly feature, this one on Kings’ players prospects for making the Olympics. Who do you think will end up making the team?

Thanks again Rich……Drew Doughty!

I don’t think Doughty makes the team, but i think he makes the reserve squad.
The injury killed Ryan Smyth’s chances of making the team, but he could still surprise us.
Jack and Brownie will make USA for sure, Scuds won’t.
Zeus will make Slovakia, possibly even captain the team.
I don’t think Fro makes team Russia, call me crazy but I will bet they field a bunch of guys from the KHL.
Ivanans will make team Latvia, so whatever bad stuff we have to say about him, he can still say he’s an olympian lol

My sincere wish is that what happens is what’s best for the Kings players, and their impact on the Kings’ game. I want to see a Kings team come back with a vengeance after the olympic break and play to the best of their ability. For some, that may be declining an invitation or not getting invited to the Olympics. For others, it may be the energizing opportunity to play in a different environment and learn some things. Most of all, I want the team to grow and be invigorated. If I watch any olympics, it’ll probably only be the hockey.

My office shuts down for the Olympics… 2 week long international party in my home town… Yes Thank You! Molson Hockey house is going to be the craziest giant tent party ever constructed and I encourage everyone to come to Van this Feb.

That’s an interesting thought that Russia would field a team from the KHL. If they did that they’d have no shot at a medal. The best Russian talent is in the NHL. I think Frolov does make the Russian team because of his ability to hold the puck and because he’s supposedly a sniper.
I agree that Smyth probably doesn’t make the Canadian team because of his injuries. But I do think Doughty makes it, along with Stamkos. Team Canada has seen a lot of it’s “big names” retire or go downhill since the last Olympics. They’re going to look to go younger. As I said in the chat last night, if they have Brodeur & Luongo in net they can afford to sacrifice a little veteran scoring punch. They’ll still be the big favorites to win the gold.
Ivanans will make Latvia because well, it’s Latvia. It’s not like they have many players good enough that they would take precedence over him. He’ll probably be their best player.
I think Scuderi & JJ make team USA, but I don’t think Brown does. I don’t know what’s happened to Dustin Brown since about a year ago, but he’s not much of a player anymore if you ask me. Team USA needs all it’s players to be on top of their games when the tournament starts if they want to medal. Brown is far from the top of his game. I also think Quick has played himself into being the #3 goalie for the Americans.
Handzus will make the Slovak team and I agree that he may be their captain.
Also, I wonder if there’s any chance Ersberg gets considered for the Swedish team? What other world class goalies do the Swedes have right now? They’ve got Lundqvist and?? Would they really bring “The Monster” instead of Ersberg? I’d say Ersberg has to be on their radar, even if he’s not starting.

brown.johnson.greenie.handzus.ivanans. id say doughty but canada is very deep on talent

Brown is a lock, same as Parse of NJ,and Miller of Buf.
Brown has excelled in the international games, regardless of how WE as fans perceive his play of late. I highly doubt Brian Burke and the rest of the selection committee share any of our opinions on Brown.
Johnson is pretty close, but if they go with a more veteran presence, he could be on the bubble.
Scuds is on the fringe, but could also make it
At this moment the goalie situation is like this:
Miller
Thomas-injured
Anderson
Quick
Dipietro-carry over from the last Olympics, and still injured.

Personally, I would rather see some of the Kings’ players get some rest, heal their banged up injuries, and return from the Olympics in better game shape.
Only exception, Ivanans. He can do whatever he or Latvia wants. He might learn to play better in the Olympics.
