Calgary’s David Moss added a power-play goal with 45.5 seconds remaining to cap the scoring. The Kings were, in effect, minus-1 for 3 on the power play, as they didn’t score and allowed a shorthanded goal. Calgary’s fourth goal also came just 43 seconds after a failed Kings power play. Shots were 32-25 for the Flames. More from the locker room ASAP.
this is unbelievable.
[Reply]
Well lets see third period tie game perhaps we should play Johnson on the PP not a forward as it was Stolls mistake which caused the goal, terribly coaching decision once again by Murray. Whats better being tied 2-2 after a PP or being down a goal for having a forward on the point.
[Reply]
Kings are not a good hockey club; Calgary was playing their C game and the Kings just sucked it up. Quick was awful, Kopitar does nothing, the defense sucks, nobody fights. This team is a joke, and def a pretender, just like the organization
[Reply]
I always wonder if it was the right move to annoint Quick so fast. Doesn’t look like it now.
Was it too soon to give him that contract extension? Hopefully Rich can ask Dean if he gave too much to Quick this year…pretty much handed the starting job to Quick and then the contract extension. Seems to me that Quick is just content with where he is.
[Reply]
Murray should bench himself for that bad penalty at the end. What? He forgot when it is legal to change lines?
[Reply]
Anybody else think it’s time to give Bernie/Z-koff there NHL Debut?!
[Reply]
Bernier has been in the NHL.
[Reply]
You know, I was never a “fire Murray” supporter but today the Coach needs to take a LOT of heat for this loss:
- Lackluster performance, allowing the Flames to come back with ease. Where is the timeout to get the Team going again???
- Changes: if the Ref said “no more change” you argue, sure. But you SHUT THE F UP when it is clear that your Team will get penalized if you don’t keep your trap shut. Thanks Murray, with 3 minutes to go, that Penalty really helped sealing the deal.
This is the worst loss this year in terms of being a bad performance all around. This Team needs a wake-up call before it is too late…… and DL needs to have a talk behind closed Doors with Murray.
[Reply]
That was ugly and unacceptable. I mentioned a few days ago things would be ok as long as this team doesn’t “REGRESS”. I’m sorry, but after that performance, it is time to panic. They need to make a FEW changes, either with Manchester or a trade. Otherwise, this team is going nowhere. That’s not being negative, that’s being realistic. Still optimistic, but not looking forward to the next 1 – 2 months.
[Reply]
Jonathan Slow gives up 1 50 footer, and 4 empty netters. How can a team play with ANY confidence if you’ve got a sieve in goal????
My kingdom for a goalie. PLEASE
[Reply]
Geez vasquez, aren’t you the optimist..
Anyways, horrible effort all around. I don’t think Quick was that bad. I don’t think any of those goals could be considered soft.
I hope this proves to all you Frolov lovers that he just isn’t THAT good of a hockey player. Just because he’s been here the longest doesn’t give him a free pass in my books.
I would love to see what Loktionov can do up here though.
[Reply]
The kings showed no passion today.
They sucked plain and simple. I usually wake up in the middle of the night to root for Kopi and the guys but tonight Calgary showed their class and the King lack thereof.
They couldn’t connect two passes.
I’m just really disappointed with their effort tonight. Oh well, like everyone on the team says it’s only 1 game. Yeah right … Every game is important and to show so little energy and this at home is just embarrassing. I would have a word with the so-called leaders of this team and tell them to shape up or ship out!!!
[Reply]
I figured ahead of time that the Flames getting blown out in their last game and the fact that I virtually can’t remember the last time the Kings beat them (I Think it may have been four years ago?) was lookin like not a great combination. Sorry, but playing 500 hockey at home is a sure fire recipe to Not get in the playoffs.
[Reply]
I believe the loss of Ryan Smyth has affected the entire team more than they know or admit. Without Smyth, this is last year’s team, and that is not good.
Dustin Brown has yet to step up this year.
[Reply]
I’ve had it with Fox Sports. No coverage of games in Canada. Horrible audio quality. Mediocre picture quality at best. No replays during the game because of all of the ads. Just plain pathetic.
[Reply]
I am so close to hopping on the fire TM band wagon. It’s funny that on the NHL.com trophy tracker, TM is a runner up for coach of the year so far. Another case of NHL writers not really watching the games.
[Reply]
can you say bernier
[Reply]
The Kings could have won that game. That was so frustrating. Very sloppy play in their zone, and the special teams were dreadful. Kompon cannot be too comfortable right now. You can’t blame this one on one person. The whole team stunk up the arena that last period.
And what was Murray thinking at the end there? You knew he was going to get a penalty by forcing the issue with that late line change. I know our chances were pretty much over there, but how about we play out the entire 60 minutes before conceding the game? Terry lost his cool and pretty much cost us any chance of maybe pulling the goalie and getting a goal.
[Reply]
i agree dom murry gets alot of the blame for this one.. i saw a unprepared team and not utilizing the right players, lack of aggressive play and just a alround loss of control of the game once we had it.
[Reply]
Oh, and one other thing… you’re not getting the feeling that any of the guys who need to score to contribute (2nd and 3rd line) are coming close to scoring at the moment, so that clearly needs to change.
[Reply]
Insider-
I don’t believe it has anything to do with Fox. I believe there are TV regulations governing who can broadcast in Canada.
[Reply]
This blows………..
[Reply]
And please…. get Ivanans out of there. He has no place being there in the 3rd period. Everyone is well aware of that accept Murray.
[Reply]
Completely unacceptable
-Powerplay is horrendous. I mean it’s goddamn awful. Who’s in charge of the PP? It’s killing us, it cost us the game today
[Reply]
@stebo: you’re 100% right about the passing. The passing was a joke. Main signs of a lackluster performance: the passes are nowhere near the players, sloppy plays and bad turnarounds are the direct result.
If I was coach, the Team would be reporting to the Toyota Sports Complex right now for 60 minutes of drills – if you don’t work during the game, you work afterwards…..
[Reply]
One last thing…
Terrible powerplay.
The guys can’t even get it setup. Geeez…
[Reply]
I’m ok with TM taking the penalty. Basically he’s packing it in. But why send your players back out there. Make the ref drop the puck or take another penalty. Don’t go half way with it. Take it as far as you can without a fine or suspension.
[Reply]
Can anyone explain to me why Brown picked up that interference penalty in the second period? It looked like he leveled a guy who was playing the puck. If he doesn’t get that penalty, Calgary probably doesn’t tie the game in the second period. Instead, it built into a huge momentum shift. Did I miss something there? It looked clean to me.
[Reply]
There was no passion. No sense of ergency. It seemed like the kings were content in just loosing and playing below par. Parse has been the only player that plays every shift like its the last he will ever play. I would put Parse on the first line.
But we do need to call up Bernier, Quick was below par for a few of those goals and his positioning has been questionable.
[Reply]
Reasons Murray Needs to go:
Plays Ivanans, in important minutes in the 3rd.
PP is horrid
NO Timeout to calm team down
players forwards on the point
takes a DUMB penalty towards the end when the Kings could have tied it up.
No structure tonite
Jones shouldn’t be on the PP
Horrible Lines. Ivananas belongs on the 4th, if anything
Go Kings
[Reply]
I hope this is the last of the Ivanana experiment…Westgarth PLEASE!
[Reply]
The Flames were coming off their own humiliating 7-1 blowout loss against the Hawks — they clearly got it together and played with far more passion tonight. Hope the Kings can do the same.
And, uh…Kopi’s foot is okay, right?
[Reply]
I can’t believe I’m posting for the third time, but the last 40+ years of Kings hockey just flashed before our eyes these last two games. What it would be like to see our boys hoist the Cup. Oh well, I guess it’s going to be a lot longer rebuild process than we all hoped.
I still feel good about the direction of this team. But man, what torture.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and thank you Rich for all your hard work and dedication to the fans representing this frustrating organ-eye-zation.
[Reply]
i have a feeling Frolov will end up in Boston. in return who do we get? dont know what bruins can offer BUT we need toughness grit and LUCIC would be awesome. dont see bruins giving him up
[Reply]
Hey just so everyone knows….if you subscribe to that nhl gamecenter live, you will be able to see the games that aren’t aired here. I know I know it is $20/month, but that is ONE way
[Reply]
Quick:
-first goal was soft. They happen, yes, but it was soft.
- 2nd goal: no chance. He was actually on it, had the puck on his blocker but it deflected high into the Net rather than over the Net. Oh well. I was surprised he even got there in time.
- 3rd goal….. not a chance. Perfect pass and execution by the Flames. Bummer it was shorthanded….
- 4th goal: nice shot by Iginla, great eye. Quick on his way to the left, no chance. This was a great PP goal by the Flames: Kings, pay attention and learn a thing or two.
- 5th goal: well… another PP goal but in the end it didn’t matter.
So, for all Bernier Fans (myself included): do NOT scream for him to join the NHL quite yet. Don’t blame Quicker for those (4 out of 5) goals, he’s not doing a bad job. And, considering his age, he’s doing quite well, always battling hard – which is something that cannot be said about the rest of the Team tonight….
[Reply]
Insider #2. I agree with your assessment of Fox Sports. Horrible audio quality. I hear the game through surround sound and when the commercial comes on it’s blasting. No replays of penalties so the fans can determine if the call was valid or not. Don’t get to hear the national anthem. Remember Warren Wiebe. He was awesome.
[Reply]
Slow and light. Not a good game plan.
A 4th line is supposed to bring energy. The 4th line the Kings throw out there brings nothing. The whole team played like Purcell.
The 3rd line had a 4th line guy on it, and did nothing.
The 2nd line has a 4th line guy on it, and did nothing.
The 1st line just obviously isn’t the same, and Kopitar can be completely hit or miss from game to game.
[Reply]
Very uninspired play today. The crowd was never in it (literally or figuratively), but who can blame them, as the Kings played a stinker of a game today.
This team is good, and they can be very good. But they have to work hard to get results. There are no ‘gimmies’ in the NHL and the Kings seem to have forgotten that, or they think they’re better than they are.
Yes, no passion, no intensity, and Coach Murray did not have the troops ready today. Just plain old FLAT.
I think the players need a closed-door meeting, because if they insist on putting in mediocre efforts, they’ll be playing golf in early April yet again…
Booooooooooooooooo!
[Reply]
No passion, no intensity.
PP horrible
kopi was asleep with quick spooning him!
[Reply]
This team is falling apart. Kopitar is just avaerage without Smyth. Frolov slowes the game down.
CAN SOMEBODY EXPLAIN TO ME THE 4TH LINE?
What a stupid move by GM to trade for Richardson!!!
Same old Kings gain….
[Reply]
Epitome of the night: Kopi getting hit a bit after the whistle by mrs cuthbert, and Fro skates right by. You can’t play the Flames without any fire. Come on now. Its amazing how empty the slot gets with no Smitty up front there working. How about a call up so Ivanans isn’t taking offensive zone penalties anymore? K thanks. To all the TM haters, this loss isn’t so much attributable to execution but to attitude. If the room doesn’t get up for a game, nothing else matters.
[Reply]
How is management not recognizing how awful they are playing. Quick is not a #1 goaltender. Every game he give up an awful goal and never gives the team a chance to win. Kopitar never looks like he is hustling and Ivanans makes the 3rd line completely worthless. With smyth out for a month the kings will fall out of the playoff picture unless they bring in a pure goal scorer or goaltender. They have no offense. They have not played solid Hockey since the PIT game. Its just pathetic and the same old story for the Kings.
[Reply]
@ tiredofquick. dude im with u on that one! id love Lucic in LA. he can score.make plays.hit and bust a face up. and hes young! frolov purcell and ivanans for lucic and a pick? id do it! but like you say boston wont let him go but hey u never know! they gave up kessel and kobasew so…
[Reply]
And Rich, one more thing.
I want an apology from the players and the coach for the lack of passion, pride, power (ironic isn’t it) that they showed tonight.
Yes, APOLOGY to all their long-term fans, that support them and who won’t tolerate this sh***t anymore.
You talk to them right? Well pass on my and probably the sentiment of all other Kings fans!
Am really angry right now.
[Reply]
Kings need a new goalie. Period.
[Reply]
Cycling on the penalty kill. How embarrassing is that?
Giving up the first shot of the game, which wasn’t really a shot.
The only positive I took from it was Fro seems to have actually grasped what’s expected of him.
[Reply]
Actually without Smyth and Scuderi this IS last years team.
No energy.
Quick isn’t doing anything to change my mind that he isn’t a #1 goalie and that not giving Bernier the #2 spot that he earned in training camp was a mistake too.
I thought a few times the Kings were going to play with more of an edge but we just didn’t. We don’t start scrums or give out more facewashes, where’s the compete?
Passing and emotion were terrible.
It’s obvious that we need more team speed and skill.
Please can we have 1 game where I don’t hear about Quick ‘wanting that one back.’ Just 1 game.
[Reply]
54f
Pretty much nailed it, especially the scrums and facewashes. Until this team initiates, instead of retaliating, they will go nowhere.
[Reply]
Jeff, I think your frustration of today’s loss is taking over….. calm down.
Really? Accusing the NHL #1 scorer of not playing well and blaming Smyth’s absence of the dismal TEAM performance?
Please….
[Reply]
Another Lackluster performance….No one showed up today! This team is going down hill and fast! The team needs a huge wake up call. More efforts like this and TM can start looking for another job.
I’m glad I didn’t pay money to see that effort. Bad enough watching it on TV
Kopi…worst game of the season
Williams…left it all on the ice against the Flyers
Stoll…dude you were on fire against the Flyers
Worst of all…Brown and he’s the Captain
Last 10 games
Purcell…haven’t seen anything from this guy since the first 3 games of the season!
Parse….haven’t seen anything from this guy in weeks!
Simmonds….where have you gone?
Ivans…enough said!
Zeus….is it just me or is this guy getting slower?
Harrold…why is this guy playing up front?
AND DON’T BLAME THE GOALTENDING, THIS GAME WAS LOST BEFORE THE PUCK WAS DROPPED!
[Reply]
It was lost by everyone, including Quick. It really doesn’t help to start down 0-1, but allowing a penalty killing unit to run the cycle on you? [gasp!]
[Reply]
54FIGHTING says:
It’s obvious that we need more team speed and skill.
Bako said last time this was mentioned that it’s either grit and positioning (not puttin words in your mouth Bako, but more or less was that). For me, I’ve decided it’s a paradox. I Do think DL has done a hell of a good job building the team, BUT, I also agree w 54. To me this team Absolutely needs more speed and skill integrated into it. You can have the absolute ‘toughest team to play against’ in the nhl, but if they get absolutely no movement on 2 mins of 5on3 hockey (Philly game) that to me is a real indication that they would do well to complement their grit w some more skill!
[Reply]
Bako, what I meant was that the team had to make a decision between being a faster and more skilled team or a tougher grittier team. Therein lies the paradox.
[Reply]
the last good goalie we had was kelly hrudey, ever since then, its been crap. Typical Kings are back again
[Reply]
What a thing of beauty….watching the Flames cycle the puck. As opposed to the Kings…dump the puck then all the forwards clumped together chase and pass the puck between themselves behind the net. Also, it seems the Kings never set up or score goals that aren’t shot from the point – Drew D. may yet lead the Kings in scoring.
[Reply]
Does anyone think that Scotty Bowman can be talked into coming to LA in return for full ownership of the Staples Center including the parking concessions.
[Reply]
I have given up on this orginization. Same old junk again!
[Reply]
Man, this team sucks.
[Reply]
kopitar day to day after blocking stolls shot. He wants to be with smithers on the IR since the rest of his team robs him of production……this just in.
[Reply]
Reasons Terry Murray Should Be Fired:
(In no particular order)
1)Defensive System
Benching Frolov.
2)Ivanans in the lineup.
3)Jack Johnson in the lineup.
4)Peter Harrold not in the lineup as a defensemen.
5)Playing Frolov on the third line until an injury occured.
6)Quick in the lineup.
7)Not playing the forth line at least ten minutes a game.
[Reply]
9) Playing Simmonds on the third line.
P.S. I did not want a smile before benching Frolov. I wrote the number eight, but it came out as a smile.
[Reply]
10) Horrible penatly kill.
[Reply]
DL needs to bring some energy/grit/tough players, then the energy will come. I actually liked seeing Ivanans play on a regular line and some third period minutes. There were a few instances where Ivanans crashed the net causing havoc. Until DL acquires some role players, this team will continue to play lack-luster hockey…
[Reply]
gonna be a long month for kopi
[Reply]
Frolov needs to be traded period. As for goaltending. Lets us all pray.. I have been a kings fan for 30 years. And it seems to go for awhile then the wheels fall off, for some reason or another.
To be honest there is a big lack of effort out on the ice, Kings are not playing as a team at times. J. Quick needs some smelling salts or something.
Harrold is a joke along with Ivanans why are those guys even in the line up.
Dl this one is for you.. Where is the talent..? Or is there any besides the young man schen, excuse me for the spelling. I know about JB in manchester, but that type of play is alot different that the NHL.
alot changes need to come soon. Or it could just be another season of false hopes.
[Reply]
Reasons Lombardi Should Be Fired:
(In No Particular Order)
1. Jack Johnson trade
Trading a second round pick for Richardson!
2) Sean Avery trade
3) Not resigning Joe Corvo
4) Cammalleri trade
5) Hiring Marc Crawford
6) Hiring Terry Murray
7) Waving George Parros
9) Signing Labarbera
10) Signing Jonathan Quick to a three year contract extention before we know whether or not he can be a regular at the NHL level.
11) Not resigning Alexander Frolov to at least a six year contract extention already!
[Reply]
I bet you Schenn did not make the team because Schenn was not defensively good enough for Terry Murray’s HORRIBLE DEFENSIVE SYSTEM!!!
[Reply]
Harrold is not a joke. He is being played out of position. He is a solid defensemen not a forward. As a matter of fact, Peter Harold is our 5th best defensemen on the active roster.
[Reply]
The sky is falling, the sky is falling…wow do people get worked up after losing…tale of the tape was pretty simple, Kings didn’t bring the intensity and the Flames played as if they were avenging their 7-1 beat down…I don’t care how talented you are, in the NHL you work hard or lose, and the Kings took the afternoon off….I hope Murray skates that daylights out of these guys tomorrow at practice, no sticks, no pucks, until someone pukes.
[Reply]
For The RockNroll80′s
Sorry just seems that every game Harrold has played a forward. forgot that he was d-man. I think you are right about canning Dean. I should have said he is the joke. for some of those dumb trades he has made. Frolov just because he scored a goal in today’s game, sure doesn’t prove anything to me personally. i know i am just a fan. But i did see him during the game at one point just stand there while the flames went right past him, with him not doing anything. Had a shift for 15 secs, while kopi and williams work there butts off.. come on. he is not a team player.
[Reply]
Lucic is one of the most valuable young players in the NHL. He would demand just as much and probably more players/draft picks than Kovulchuck would. That being said, Frolov/Purcell/Ivanans wouldn’t come close to tempting the Bruins to part with him.
[Reply]
Wow, I can’t believe Ivanans did’t make a difference on the third line. Oh wait he did, he took his usual offensive zone penalty. duh
[Reply]
Maybe it’s the LA sunshine that brings out the worst in the team.
Only the truly great players can overcome it’s Kryptonite like power…
[Reply]
The Flames showed up to the Kings house ate the food, drank all the beer, lounged around on their furniture, and left with the women.
What a shame.
[Reply]
Wow. If the MVP is really given to the guy who’s most valuable to his team then Smyth should get it in a landslide.
Without him this team looks nothing like a playoff team.
Maybe Murray should try Ivanans on the first line. Couldn’t be any worse.
[Reply]
this is the same team we had last year, other than parse. theres no reason to expect different results than what we’ve seen…
[Reply]
darko you are high, this is def not the same team we had last year. this is a much improved team but there is a lot of inconsistant play as of late. Stoll needs to be benched for that extremely lazy coverage that allowed that short handed goal and i do agree its time to bring up some guys from manchester
[Reply]
I am not as fatalistic as everyone else but I think the roofies Dean has put in the punch is starting to wear off. You can polish a turd but…
I was at this game and the most exciting part was the college kids sitting in section 320 dressed up as all kinds of wacky stuff. They got into it with a guy and a girl wearing Boston Bruin jerseys. Later I guess after being pelted with peanuts the Bruins fan called security. He cried worse than my four year old daughter.
[Reply]
Poor team effort for most of the game.
Boy, Quick can’t do that to his team. He was out of position.
The only thing to ever look forward to after a loss, are the insane comments by the same doomsday posters.
So of them are actually funny…ignorant but funny
[Reply]
To those who complain about Quick….the answer is still available – Lombardi’s ‘goalie of the future’ (drum roll) Dan Cloutier.
[Reply]
Actually this team is sucking really bad, i am disgusted, since the pergiuns game they have been playing really marginal hockey.
Its time to find a coach who keeps them accountabke and wont p1 (951) 830-4371ut up with this ki d of trash. And please stop the purcell/ivanans experiement. I mean really, purcell cant keep the puck on hid stick for longer than .5 seconds, and drago seriously takes some bad penalties.
We are fading, and so is my hope
go kings, just stop freaking partying on matinee game nights!

Rich Hammond.
It’s time to ban Jet for continually saying that every commentor that is upset with the Kings is me (Cristobal).
I have abided by all regulations since the new blog allowed me to post under the moniker.
It’s time to treat us all equally and play by the rules. I have no need to post under aliases anymore as cristobal-bashing is also against the rules, I think.
What say you?
