Fact of the matter is this board would be so much easier to communicate with people if Terry Murray had two similar PP lines that are close to his first two 5 on 5 lines.
If Stoll played forward on PP2 and we utilized a different strategy from the pt’s then we would be that much closer to finding a suitable line for frolov and also a suitable secondary attack.
This team needs to either A) acquire a defenceman that can play the pt on pp1 releasing stoll to forward on pp2 B) or acquiring a true 2nd line centre that can keep line 2 together on pp2.
this board will be at each others throats until this happens. fact

About Quick, he’s good but yet to carry the team in any way. He plays just well enough to give us a chance to win. Just think where we would be if he was putting up Bernier or Zatkoff numbers.

So, Patty O is leading the way with his big 4 goals in 22 games? Lame. Just what Edmonton expected. That’s sarcasm.

Purcell has done nothing in his NHL career to warrant the same leeway as a guy like Fro would get…and Fro doesn’t get much anyway.
Purcell needs to sieze the opportunity that he’s getting now. He’s not a seasoned veteran, he’s a rookie not making a very good impression.
The only reason he’s back in the lineup is because of injury…He’ll be the 1st one out of the lineup if he can’t generate scoring chances.
Parse may not be scoring, but he’s doing everthing else to keep himself in the lineup..he’s playing physical..he’s been responsible defensively, and he’s getting scoring chances. He needs to start burying those chances. He’s doing everything Teddy isn’t doing..

You want to give Fro “a little more time to gel” with his new linemates. Yet, that was Purcells’ first time playing with his new linemates and he doesn’t get the same chance to gel?

Why such a double standard?

As for Parse. I think more people than not (me included) have been quite impressed with his effort. The only thing is, until his assist tonight, he’s been held off the score sheet for an awful long time. Effort is fine but he’s playing on the second line and the second line is expected to score.

What’s ironic, is that Parse has one goal this year and it was from a nice setup from Purcell.

Quick played fine, it wasn’t his bad. The team was really scrambling on the goals and he stopped the first shot at least twice and the other goal was a one time from 10 feet out in the slot.

The first line had chances, Fro played well up there and distributed the puck. He’s not a stand in front of the net guy like Smyth is and it’s a different style but he did drive the net a few times.

Props to someone early on who said “that’s it. The Kings will lose this game by one goal because they didn’t score on the 5-3 again”. Hit the nail right on the head.

The team is playing better than most of us thought. They’ll become a true contender when they don’t take 10 minute off at a time in the middle of the game. Until then they’ll be good and we shouldn’t be standing on the ledge waiting to jump.

Its amazing to see how the difference in Frolov’s style, versus that of Smyth’s, really effects the other forwards. Smyth is always moving forward towards the net, and his range seems to win the 50/50 pucks into the attacking zone. Frolov, on the other hand, constantly has his back to the goal, and seems to want to hug the half wall, eventually cycling closer to the net, instead of crashing it like Smyth would. Fro also seems to actually give the puck up on purpose in alot of 50/50 situations in order to better position himself during the takeaway-which he does maybe better than anyone on the team. The style of skating that Fro has is more of a gliding into position, where Smyth is constantly moving and stepping to get somewhere. The physicality of Smyth is just flat out harder to play against than the possession game of Frolov, and Smyth’s style is more conducive to what Kopitar and Williams need to be succesful.
Also, Parse and Williams are playing great. You’ll notice how much more freedom Stoll has to hit because of his trust in Parse’s ability to backcheck and position himself correctly. I don’t think I’ve seen Stoll ever hit as hard as he has these past 4 games. With a little more time to gel, I think our 2nd line will be exactly what this team needs-a hard hitting, defensively responsible, scoring line.

@ chris – It was a hard effort (they ran around a lot, except on the power play, which was backward) not a good effort (they didn’t use their brains.)

@NYKF – Yup, that’s when it blew (they were also sort of bailed out when they got the first goal, as they had already been running around on D, and the goal bought them momentum.) Quick was fine. You’re right we need to give Fro more time, but someone better get into his face about shooting the puck. Purcell’s halfway out the door, it seems.

This game was decided early. We had a 5 on 3 for 2 minutes and did absolutely nothing with it. I saw no movement..nobody switching to open up passing or shooting lanes. It was one of the most pathetic efforts I’ve ever seen on a full two minute 5 on 3. We had the chance to bury them right there. We failed and we were doomed.

For those who thought Quick wasn’t very good..which goals was he at fault on? He played fine. We didn’t allow many chances or shots. He didn’t steal the game for us, but I can’t blame him for the loss. The goals were scored because we got caught running around. Two guys going to the puck carrier and leaving guys wide open. It didn’t happen often, but enough to make a difference.

Let’s give Fro a little more time to gel with Williams and Kopi. He wasn’t anything special, but niehter was Kopi. JW played maybe his best game of the year. He was certainly the best King all night.

I think I was more upset with Purcell’s effort. Isn’t this guy supposed to be a goal scorer? He doesn’t even generate chances. The clock is ticking on his career in LA asnd he’s not doing much to make a statement for himself.
I could be wrong, but off the effort he gave last night, he might not get another chance against Calgary this weekend. Teddy has nobody to blame but himself.

How could anyone complain about the effort Parse is giving? He’s not scoring, but he’s working hard at both ends of the ice. The goals will eventually come.

People freak out too easy on here, it is all about effort. And if you seen the game tonight you would know that we had a good effort. Not like in ATL when there was a reason to talk S*$T.

Hmm…at least Brown managed 3 shots on goal without Williams and Kopitar on his line…and they put plenty of shots on goal…I think they played against the same matchups that Fro did. Fro was a standout because he did nothing with the puck when he had it. Frankly, the Kings didn’t look that good in the 1st or the beginning of the 3rd, either.

I’m not as bothered by the loss as the way they lost. If they lost playing their game (they came up short in a couple overtime losses where they played their game and it didn’t bug me so much they lost) it wouldn’t have bent me so much. No one likes losing, but it’s infuriating when it’s because they’re just not doing what they’re supposed to be doing.
