Flyers goalie Brian Boucher recorded his third consecutive victory over the Kings and made 37 saves. Jonathan Quick stopped 17 of 20 shots. The Kings had a deflected shot trickle wide of the goal line in the final seconds. More from the locker room ASAP…

I can’t believe that didn’t go in, I’m still in shock.
[Reply]
You literally can’t get any closer than that. Jeez that sucks
[Reply]
FROLOV=FAIL
[Reply]
How does stoll’s go in, but that one doesn’t? Im still shaking from that play, if i just sit still my hands just shake. OMG
[Reply]
Jep, they get a lucky board bounce and Kopis cant stay in-go figure.
[Reply]
Deader, I didn’t think about it, until I believe AK47 mentioned. Ryan Smyth would have been sooo helpful in that situation, as there is a high percentage he would turn and knock that one in. Too bad, I never thought I’d love Smythy so much
[Reply]
Yeah Deadmarsh that was a heartbreaker there. I think the Kings are going to seriously miss Smyth. I think that 2 man advantage to end the first probably would have paid dividends with him in front. This is going to be a painful month for us Kings fans.
[Reply]
good game …..inches either way….
[Reply]
That was one tough loss. The thing I feel worst about is that Quick was outplayed by Brian Boucher.
[Reply]
The power play, particularly the 5 on 3 is painful. I feel like the sense of urgency becomes LESS when we have a man advantage. It may be by design, but I hate it. It’s reminiscent of the “prevent defense” in football where it prevents winning… in this case, it prevents scoring. I feel like with a man advantage we must seriously attack with deliberate force as if there are 10 seconds left in the game (just like at the end of this game where we had multiple chances in a span of 1 min). If we played like that on every power play, we would score way more. I don’t pretend to know how they design the PP approach, but I can’t help but think of the wasted opportunities earlier in the game when it comes down to the wire like this.

Game One for Frolov Experiment
Result: Failure
Boy we missed Smyth in front of the net tonight. Williams stepped up his game, Fro was completely ineffective. Bad start for Fro.
[Reply]
21 shots in the 3rd for the Kinds. Wow, that was a nice effort. Would have been nice to salvage a point and Handzus almost did it for us.
Bummer!
[Reply]
Fro looked good.
JW-awesome game.
Purcell just cant put the puck in the net.
[Reply]
Bring up Moller!
[Reply]
Let me speak for the haters…
Oh my, Justin Williams sucked tonight! Oh my goodness Why didn’t Murray put Frolov on the 1st line! Agh, bring up Bernier, Quick didn’t score a goal. Doughty’s goal was a fluke, he should go back to the minors. Moulson had 2 goals yesterday. POS was dancing on the ice. Our offense is anemic.
Ok, haters, I did your regular tirade which you guys do whether we win or lose.
[Reply]
That Justin Williams is such a dead weight on the top line.
Eight shots on goal, over 19 minutes of ice time and all he could muster was a gimme pp assist.
If he needs a tip on how to nail a shot, he should view the Patrick O’sullivan game winning goal against the Colorado Avalanche this evening.
BTW, glad to see Chris Pronger out of our division.
[Reply]
I know this isn’t going to be received well but it needs to be said. Quick needs to play better, got overagressive on that one play, and the Kings paid the price for it.
Kings aren’t going to score 5 goals every night, Quick has to be able steal some games.
[Reply]
Boucher owns the Kings. Tough loss indeed. Gotta get ready for the Flamers.
[Reply]
Anthony has his beer goggles on again
[Reply]
Frolov looked OK at best, i thought that at times he wasn’t handling the puck very well and was losing it. Great game for Justin Williams and Drew Doughty too.
[Reply]
2 man advantage for a full 2minutes?? thats what hurt them. Plus i didnt see simmonds til the third period. Fro did fine, i still get chills how great his body positioning is. He hardly gets stripped for the puck. Kopi is a marked man, his chances are getting slimmer. Tough loss for the boys tho, I still believe. GO KINGS!!
[Reply]
Why did I know Anthony/Anthonyy/RocknRoller80s was going to put down Williams today?
[Reply]
Its like a broken record, just keeps singing the same tune.
[Reply]
Bring up Loktionov, move Purcell to the first line, move Stoll to 3rd line LW…Fro, Lokti, and Brown. Got nothing to lose!
[Reply]
Williams had a really good game it just didn’t happen for him tonight.
[Reply]
I thought was one of Williams best game, don’t know what Anthony was watching
[Reply]
fro played well…
[Reply]
Kopitar is officially cold.
[Reply]
Kings Looked really good tonight…..just one of those games.
[Reply]
I could write a book on how good the Kings played tonight. However, one paragraph by the Flyers erased their effort.
Is the ice bad or do the Kings passes just stink? No composure, no skill, no traffic in front means no goals. And until all 4 lines realize this, they will continue to struggle. The only way the Kings are going to pick up points now are from a hot goalie. I think Quick is feeling pressure or he is just not the goalie we all think he might become. Sorry to say it, but now is when we really need him.
[Reply]
Williams was just trying to do what is taught as a kid. Put the puck on the net. If you put the puck on net, you might get goals but at least you make the goalie work. Works best when there is someone in front, but you might get a lucky bounce. This is where we will seriously miss Smyth. The 5-3 would have paid dividends, and that last little squibber would have been in the net.
[Reply]
Im kind of sick of these new people already
[Reply]
Gringer17, you just said alot, and i agree with you!!!
[Reply]
Where is Richardson, Parse, Purcell, Harrold, anybody to bang in an ugly goal ???
Very frustrated right now. Have been since the 1975 débâcle against the Leafs. There, I vented. Good night.
[Reply]
Very true grinder. Quick really needs to step up. With Smyth out of the line up, it looks like we will need to pick up the D due to the lack of a big presence in front of the opposing net.
[Reply]
We can all say “what would of happened if smyth was in” Even if smyth was playing theres no guarantee that he scores. Would we have had a better chance, maybe but all we know is what we have is what has to work together it’s only one game. Plus most teams always lose their first home game after a long road trip, the kings played well but Boucher played better especially in that 3rd.
[Reply]
Fro has only played about 4 periods with Kopi and JW, give them a little more practice.
How about coming into the 1st shooting like in the 3rd
[Reply]
Kopi really did not have another great game but you cant rely on him every night. Fro played fine but he did have a chance to make it 2 /o right in the slot and he didn’t get the shot off. I thought I was gonna get to gloat.
Damn!
[Reply]
Very true Mike. We are just going off of what worked in the past. We need to look forward, not back.
[Reply]
Yikes, to me there were some very glaring things to take away from this game:
1. Frolov looked completely out of place on the 1st line. He should stay on the third line. Sure he’s great at puck possession, but that’s all he did tonight. Skating around the perimeter isn’t going to score many goals (see Patrick O’Sullivan)
2. Quick wasn’t sharp, again.
3. Our 2nd line is probably the weakest in the league. Parse needs to go to the fourth line or Manchester. Kids got heart but shouldn’t be on a 2nd line. Unfortunately, we have no one to replace him.
In spite of all of this, the Kings dominated this game. I guess that’s something to take away…
[Reply]
Yeah kevin, wouldn’t we all like to go back and change the moment when smyth got hit. Why couldn’t of been Raitis going for that puck?!
[Reply]
only difference in the game…goaltending????

quick doesnt face many shots compared to other goalies. yet 3GA on 20 shots. whats new! kid stinks! yall go ahead and be sensitive about quick but this is the NHL and there is no room for sensitve stuff

smyth could miss one month ^^^^
[Reply]
Why do we like to try to make these comebacks in the 3rd period. If we played like our 3rd period for 60 minutes we would of won that game. We are getting into the habit of making a come back and you just can’t depend on that against these better teams. You will lose more often than you will win!
[Reply]
Those are the breaks boys you win some you lose some.
Frodo (as my brother in law calls him) played good not great. Typical Frolov game.
5-3 PP was brutal that was the time deflate the flyers and it didn’t work out in our favor.
Can’t belive that last play. OMG!
By far Stolls best game this year.
Onto the flames on Saturday.
[Reply]
No, it wasn’t goaltending, it was defense, the kings were running around everywhere in some stretches and didn’t even clear those players go scored goals for the Flyers. All this blame it on Quick is getting old.
[Reply]
tough loss. cant believe we didnt tie it up. bad bounce on the puck i guess. good game though. kids showed character tonight! but quick needs to pick it up if were gonna be playing in spring.
[Reply]
AK47 do you think maybe what you were noticing is that Fro is excellent when he is doing his puck possession routine, with his back to the defender, but tonight it seemed to me that he was much more committed to making plays and feeding the puck to line mates. So facing the play exposes the puck much more to the other team?
[Reply]
39 SHOTS!! nuff said
[Reply]
I’m back.
Everybody, just forget about what Smitty might have done or if Scuds was in the lineup. To become a winner, these are the games you need to find a way to win. We can debate until we’re blue in the face, but the fact is, this team is not ready. Close though, because there is no quit.
This is still part of the rebuild to become a winner. As long as this team doesn’t regress, the future still looks bright. But damn, it’s been over 35 years of these frustrating loses that eat at me. Geez, if the Kings were to win a cup (hopefully in my lifetime), I don’t know how I would react. I’m not one of these bandwagon fans.
Good night.
[Reply]
Canadian.
Item 1: True, he needs to work on his passing again. Gotta move the puck around to get goals in the net.
Item 2: For the most part, true. He was sharp at times but too many rebounds close in. He had to scramble to keep shots out. Especially early on (see first minute of the game) and in the third. He shouldn’t have been out as far as he was. May top of the crease but beyond, bad move Quicker.
Item 3: I have no opinion.
The Kings didn’t completely dominate this game. Some of the hits from the Kings were kinda soft. Philly was getting the better part of the hitting game. They took it to the Kings much more physically. Not saying they weren’t hitting, they were. Just Philly were getting the bigger hits. In the SOG department, we did get the better part of that game. Need a presence in front of the net to put in short rebounds and just harass the opposing netminders.
Well played but just need to get on those rebounds better.
[Reply]
bye bye purcell, hey you tried buddy – (trade bait)
[Reply]
Forgot to mention earlier, Kings need some shooting practice, too many great chances to score and nothing to show for it.
[Reply]
2nd periods. I’m $@#% bitter that they’re taking 10-minute vacations during the 2nd period.
[Reply]
I’m bitter about the mismanagement of 5-on-3 power plays too.
[Reply]
Quick was fine. He stood on his head several times and wasn’t a liability.
“Frolov looked completely out of place on the 1st line. He should stay on the third line. Sure he’s great at puck possession, but that’s all he did tonight. Skating around the perimeter isn’t going to score many goals (see Patrick O’Sullivan)”
That’s what I saw too. He was impressive, in that his stick was like glue…but he didn’t seem to produce any scoring chances.
[Reply]
Tantrum4, you are not the only one that feels that way. I’m getting tired of the same person coming on this site using 5 different names and coming on here with nothing constructive to say. To me that is the same as spamming and it’s getting old. Really Anthony, how many times and under how many names do you need to keep spamming us with the same nonsense?

[Reply]
“That team is big and plays great D.”
What?! They ran around most of the game. They _had_been_ playing pretty good D, most of the previous games, but they take mental vacations and get to running around. Most of the 2nd period went that way, even when they were getting offensive chances.
[Reply]
Oops, Johnjuan, sorry. Forget it…you mean the Flyers.
On them…I was impressed with their energy, but you could tell, when the Kings were on their game, the Kings had more jump. Too bad when pressured, the Kings were usually out of position…and you have to credit the Flyers with that as much as getting on the Kings.
[Reply]
Williams was the best player on the ice…period. He did everything you could ask from a player and more.If everyone played like he did tonight , we win. Some people just need to dump on a player to make themselves happy, unfortunately we have one here.
And Frolov is now at 10 games without a goal.
[Reply]
ONE shot…on the top line…and it was a wraparound attempt late in the game. I haven’t been down on Fro until now, but I’m unhappy to see him blow it with the spotlight on him.
[Reply]
Booooo Yaaaaa, King fans. Forget for a moment the little things we could have done better tonight, did you see the Kings bringing the wood tonight. Not in my wildest dreams did I think the Kings would compete tonight like they did against Philly, Did you all see the smack-down Stoll was laying. He had three huge hits tonight. Everyone played with tenacity tonight….that my friends is good to see. Philly is a good team and we were right there. Good game on the compete level. Only disappointment tonight was JJ ducking Hartnell. I’m sorry, but there’s no MF in JJ. Other than that, I was impressed.
[Reply]
Kenneth,
Ya I meant Flyers and your right the Kings looked good except for that 2nd period. Thats why I am not really that bothered by this particular loss.
Stoll was as good as Williams McQueen and Fro is only a stand out for not scoring because everyone expects him to breakout (me included). Brown has not been burning it up lately either.
[Reply]
Hmm…at least Brown managed 3 shots on goal without Williams and Kopitar on his line…and they put plenty of shots on goal…I think they played against the same matchups that Fro did. Fro was a standout because he did nothing with the puck when he had it. Frankly, the Kings didn’t look that good in the 1st or the beginning of the 3rd, either.
I’m not as bothered by the loss as the way they lost. If they lost playing their game (they came up short in a couple overtime losses where they played their game and it didn’t bug me so much they lost) it wouldn’t have bent me so much. No one likes losing, but it’s infuriating when it’s because they’re just not doing what they’re supposed to be doing.
[Reply]
People freak out too easy on here, it is all about effort. And if you seen the game tonight you would know that we had a good effort. Not like in ATL when there was a reason to talk S*$T.
[Reply]
This game was decided early. We had a 5 on 3 for 2 minutes and did absolutely nothing with it. I saw no movement..nobody switching to open up passing or shooting lanes. It was one of the most pathetic efforts I’ve ever seen on a full two minute 5 on 3. We had the chance to bury them right there. We failed and we were doomed.
For those who thought Quick wasn’t very good..which goals was he at fault on? He played fine. We didn’t allow many chances or shots. He didn’t steal the game for us, but I can’t blame him for the loss. The goals were scored because we got caught running around. Two guys going to the puck carrier and leaving guys wide open. It didn’t happen often, but enough to make a difference.
Let’s give Fro a little more time to gel with Williams and Kopi. He wasn’t anything special, but niehter was Kopi. JW played maybe his best game of the year. He was certainly the best King all night.
I think I was more upset with Purcell’s effort. Isn’t this guy supposed to be a goal scorer? He doesn’t even generate chances. The clock is ticking on his career in LA asnd he’s not doing much to make a statement for himself.
I could be wrong, but off the effort he gave last night, he might not get another chance against Calgary this weekend. Teddy has nobody to blame but himself.
How could anyone complain about the effort Parse is giving? He’s not scoring, but he’s working hard at both ends of the ice. The goals will eventually come.
[Reply]
@ chris – It was a hard effort (they ran around a lot, except on the power play, which was backward) not a good effort (they didn’t use their brains.)
@NYKF – Yup, that’s when it blew (they were also sort of bailed out when they got the first goal, as they had already been running around on D, and the goal bought them momentum.) Quick was fine. You’re right we need to give Fro more time, but someone better get into his face about shooting the puck. Purcell’s halfway out the door, it seems.
[Reply]
Its amazing to see how the difference in Frolov’s style, versus that of Smyth’s, really effects the other forwards. Smyth is always moving forward towards the net, and his range seems to win the 50/50 pucks into the attacking zone. Frolov, on the other hand, constantly has his back to the goal, and seems to want to hug the half wall, eventually cycling closer to the net, instead of crashing it like Smyth would. Fro also seems to actually give the puck up on purpose in alot of 50/50 situations in order to better position himself during the takeaway-which he does maybe better than anyone on the team. The style of skating that Fro has is more of a gliding into position, where Smyth is constantly moving and stepping to get somewhere. The physicality of Smyth is just flat out harder to play against than the possession game of Frolov, and Smyth’s style is more conducive to what Kopitar and Williams need to be succesful.
Also, Parse and Williams are playing great. You’ll notice how much more freedom Stoll has to hit because of his trust in Parse’s ability to backcheck and position himself correctly. I don’t think I’ve seen Stoll ever hit as hard as he has these past 4 games. With a little more time to gel, I think our 2nd line will be exactly what this team needs-a hard hitting, defensively responsible, scoring line.
[Reply]
Quick played fine, it wasn’t his bad. The team was really scrambling on the goals and he stopped the first shot at least twice and the other goal was a one time from 10 feet out in the slot.
The first line had chances, Fro played well up there and distributed the puck. He’s not a stand in front of the net guy like Smyth is and it’s a different style but he did drive the net a few times.
Props to someone early on who said “that’s it. The Kings will lose this game by one goal because they didn’t score on the 5-3 again”. Hit the nail right on the head.
The team is playing better than most of us thought. They’ll become a true contender when they don’t take 10 minute off at a time in the middle of the game. Until then they’ll be good and we shouldn’t be standing on the ledge waiting to jump.
[Reply]
NYKINGFAN
You want to give Fro “a little more time to gel” with his new linemates. Yet, that was Purcells’ first time playing with his new linemates and he doesn’t get the same chance to gel?
Why such a double standard?
As for Parse. I think more people than not (me included) have been quite impressed with his effort. The only thing is, until his assist tonight, he’s been held off the score sheet for an awful long time. Effort is fine but he’s playing on the second line and the second line is expected to score.
What’s ironic, is that Parse has one goal this year and it was from a nice setup from Purcell.
[Reply]
The Jumping Shrimp
Purcell has done nothing in his NHL career to warrant the same leeway as a guy like Fro would get…and Fro doesn’t get much anyway.
Purcell needs to sieze the opportunity that he’s getting now. He’s not a seasoned veteran, he’s a rookie not making a very good impression.
The only reason he’s back in the lineup is because of injury…He’ll be the 1st one out of the lineup if he can’t generate scoring chances.
Parse may not be scoring, but he’s doing everthing else to keep himself in the lineup..he’s playing physical..he’s been responsible defensively, and he’s getting scoring chances. He needs to start burying those chances. He’s doing everything Teddy isn’t doing..
[Reply]
About Quick, he’s good but yet to carry the team in any way. He plays just well enough to give us a chance to win. Just think where we would be if he was putting up Bernier or Zatkoff numbers.
So, Patty O is leading the way with his big 4 goals in 22 games? Lame. Just what Edmonton expected. That’s sarcasm.
[Reply]
Fact of the matter is this board would be so much easier to communicate with people if Terry Murray had two similar PP lines that are close to his first two 5 on 5 lines.
If Stoll played forward on PP2 and we utilized a different strategy from the pt’s then we would be that much closer to finding a suitable line for frolov and also a suitable secondary attack.
This team needs to either A) acquire a defenceman that can play the pt on pp1 releasing stoll to forward on pp2 B) or acquiring a true 2nd line centre that can keep line 2 together on pp2.
this board will be at each others throats until this happens. fact
