Doughty postgame quotes

Drew Doughty’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
DOUGHTY: “We didn’t show up to play, and that’s why we lost the game. The first two periods, we weren’t too solid. It wasn’t like we were playing that bad. We just let them have three easy goals. We can’t have that. We talk, and watch video on our D zone all the time, and when we make little mistakes like that, it’s tough and we’ve got to learn from it.”

(on the flurry of action late in the game…)
DOUGHTY: “We were pretty determined there at the end. It was good that we were able to put all that pressure on. If we got a couple bounces that they got, we would have got a goal there and tied it up. It’s too bad we couldn’t have taken it to overtime.”

(on not scoring on the two-minute 5-on-3…)
DOUGHTY: “It was a pretty key moment in the game, with us, all of us on the 5-on-3, not capitalizing on it. That’s pretty disappointing to us on the power play, but we just have to learn from it as well. Next time we’ve got to capitalize on it for sure.”

3 easy goals…….is that a comment on the “D” or the goaltending???

Obviously they don’t work on it in practice. Come on guys. This is were you bury a team. We need different direction as far as the PP coaching goes. NO IMAGINATION WHAT SO EVER!! There could have been three Pee Wee players out there and we still wouldn’t have scored. It’s called passing the puck with movement at the same time.

Well at least someone has the courage to admit they played bad defense.

He’s right. They got caught running around way too much, and there was no excuse at all for that 5-on-3. Most of that “power play” they weren’t even in the zone. How do you fail to enter the zone 5-on-3?

Easy Kenneth. You let a dump and chase, non-puck possession style permeate through the team. The PP isn’t scoring because of lack of talent. They are not scoring because they don’t move their feet, stand around waiting to pass and, most importantly, don’t hold the puck while skating laterally. That is how defensemen and the PK get out of position – by chasing.

Sometimes you have to dump it on on the PP–especially 5-on-3…you have an opportunity to put the puck where there’s 3 of you and 1 of them. It’s not being decisive and not moving your feet that kills you on the PP, and that’s exactly how they played it. That, and you charge the zone to create space to get the puck where it needs to go…they wandered around.

From what I understand about hockey after having watched it for 25 years, it is possible to score on a 5 on 3 advantage, given one specific… you have to actually Shot the puck, otherwise there is every good chance you won’t score. The Kings do bring the grit to their game now, but I find their lack of movement and creativity in these situations rather troubling.

Kings tried to play a finesse game against a grinding, blue-collar team. I think the Kings played kind of soft tonite. They were also terrible in their own end. So many turnovers and giveaways. Unacceptable!

Frolov looked fine on the first line… until I saw the stats. Only 1 shot on goal, in the last minute of play. He has to shoot more…

Tough game for the Kings, yet they were still in it when Doughty scored. Too bad they couldn’t play with the same urgency they did in the last minute for the the second period. They just weren’t competing and no one was hitting much other than Stoll’s hit.

    Prepare and beat the Flames!

    GO KINGS!

In the words of Jim Mora…”Playoffs??!!” As a long time season ticket holder, you make allowances for young mistakes or poor officiating, but last nights game was a view into what we STILL don’t have. Consistent Intensity. The Flyers are a playoff team. The Kings? No way. They look completely confused on the PP. If were gonna take a shot, make it a shot that has a chance of going in. Not just a shot because of all the “Fans” yelling “Shoot it”. And where are the second chances? We shoot, miss and fade away. I’m as confused as our players look. We have veterans, young players and experienced coaching and we still look confused most of the time. I just don’t get it.

BTW, I like Doughty taking ownership of the loss, and in particular, for the running around on defense that set the tempo for the game.

the flyers definitely played with more poise, but the kings made some very good chances for themselves near the end and came very close to tying it. the kings didn’t take the puck toward the net on the 5 on 3 which would have forced the flyers to react so the flyers just stood there in the lanes; the kings should have forced that action. i don’t think anyone should blame quick for two of the three goals when the d-men weren’t covering their men to prevent rebound opportunities. it seems like the kings get on a roll in the offensive end sometimes and then forget about defense and get careless when the counterattack comes.
