Ersberg postgame quotes

Erik Ersberg’s postgame thoughts…

(on ending his long losing streak…)
ERSBERG: “I had just played one game this season, so it was easy to keep track. I don’t count going backward.”

(on the game action…)
ERSBERG: “We played a great first period. They didn’t get anything, maybe two long shots from outside. We probably could have had one more goal in the first, but then we got another one in the second. They stepped it up, though, in the second and the third. I think they played pretty well, but we played a great game too, so it’s good to come out on top.”

(on playing his first game after a long break…)
ERSBERG: “You always are a little rusty. Obviously you try to work hard in practice and all that, but it’s a little different to play in the game. The guys helped me out, they blocked some shots and let me see most of the pucks, so that always helps when players do that for you.”

(on Ruutu’s second goal, and whether he changed the angle of the shot late…)
ERSBERG: “I don’t know if it got up on his stick or what. He beat me. I don’t really care if they score 10, as long as we score 11.”

(on facing any pressure to beat a team on a long losing streak…)
ERSBERG: “I heard they had lost a lot of games, and you see the standings too. A team like that is always going to come out working really hard and be desperate, but I think we managed to keep up pretty well.”

was does that matter? all Eric could control was his play out on the ice and he did that tonight ….hopefully this will get him going , boost his confidence and get him back to being the good goalie we all know he was last year and can be again . We need strong play from both our goalies to reach our playoff goal.

So my question to Terry Murray: Are you going to stick with the hot hand and play Ersberg in the next game? Is one win considered hot? I did not see the game or the highlights yet.

I know it’s tongue in cheek, but I don’t want ANY goaltender for the Kings saying it’s OK at ANY moment to allow 10 goals let alone one. He better care. That is the kind of mentality that ruins careers.

If I’m a winger and I hear my goalie say that, I’m thinking “Why is it only MY job to win games”.

It may seem like I’m overreacting, but to me, it’s an awfully telling statement about a player’s mindset. Sorry.

I agree with Cynic. That quote horrified me. No wonder he’s been trending downward…

I’d love to give EE that benefit of the doubt Blake, but why didn’t he just say that instead of what he did say?

I want his cool demeanor and comments to be a sign of confidence and swagger, not passivity. Again, maybe overreaction, but a red flag to me nonetheless.

I think you guys are reading a little too much into his letting in ten goals quote. He’s just saying that winning is the most important thing. It’s not like he’d actually be satisfied with himself if he let in 10 goals…

Yeah I think the point Ersberg is trying to make is, his stats don’t matter, just wins.

If J Quick would’ve allowed that 2nd goal would we have been calling it a bad goal?

My point is that Quick should make some extra saves here and there but I think sometimes we are a bit too quick ( no pun intended) to blame him.

Hey gang off topic but that is the deal with all the little red flowers that everyone is wearin on the jackets?

  14. Chris Bond says:

Seems to me that Quick makes some really nice saves but lets in a few to many soft ones. Stops the ones he shouldnt and lets in a soft one once a game. Look at it I swear more teams are shooting from the blue line when he is in net. I watch a lot of hockey and you dont see as many long shots on the other games.

I can’t believe how much people read into one statement.
    His point was…..
    Win = most important thing
You know the age old quote about not caring about stats and it’s more about the team getting the win.

And yes english is his second language

  25. What's the frequency, Kenneth? says:

@ Ghadd – Most scandinavians I know speak english so fluently they speak it better than some people born in the US. I doubt it’s about language. Actually, I think he knew the first goal was soft and was a bit defensive about it, maybe being just a little flippant. Yes, though, the gist is that he played well enough to win, and if it was a 3-2 game, that would have been fine too. Sometimes the skaters save the goaltender and sometimes the goaltender saves the skaters. It’s a TEAM game.

I like EE. But can’t deny he is off his game. Last year I saw him as a decent no.2 guy. He played some strong games. But that position is very mental. When the moniker of no.1 would hanging over his head, he would crumble. JQ came in as a strong no.1 and that let EE get back into a comfortable mental state and play well.

Don’t know what’s up with him this year, but deff not playing well.

I was also very disapointed by his 10goal 11goal statement. A goalie needs to have the attitude of, ‘as long as my team scores 1 or 2, we should win’.

11 goals to win against 10 goals ?!? Is Jason L back ????

  28. Bruin26 says:

Should have been a shutout? Wow proof some fans are never happy no matter what. Or maybe they are only happy when there are obvious things to complain about?

I knew once I saw the line about the ten goals some would take that badly.
