Murray, on lineup changes

Here’s what Terry Murray said after practice, when asked if he was thinking about any lineup changes for tomorrow…

MURRAY: “Yeah, I’m contemplating it. I’m going to think about it here, the rest of the day. We might need a little fresher look in a couple of spots, just to reinvigorate ourselves as we get this road trip underway. But I’m going to think about it.”

Might one of those spots be the goalie spot?

MURRAY: “It could include the goalie, yeah. Last night, Quicker, he made some great saves. A couple of them were spectacular, but there’s always that goal that you’d like to have back. I would like to have the first one back. I’d like to have the second one back. I’d like to have an opportunity to score on those great chances that we had at the start of the game. Fro walks in, Parse walks in… That, you can go back and say that might have been the difference in the game. We might be up 1-0 or 2-0 before they get the look they got with Madden coming down the wing. I’m going to just reevaluate the goaltending today too.”

We have 1 scoring line, and 3 checking units. I don’t want our hot start to go to waste this month.

Frolov and Brown should be paired with Stoll right now. Stoll has finally found his game. Working hard, shooting the puck, and winning face-offs.

Getting a new body in the lineup like Randy Jones will provide a little jolt.

Erik Ersberg? I’m nervous. Quick probably needs some time to recover though. Get him some rest.

I don’t care what changes he makes, as long as the boys play hard and we win. If they play like crap again, I will fully revert to last years’ thinking, and knowing we had a good month but we still aren’t a playoff team and won’t be again this year.

Aren’t we 2-2 for this month? Just sayin’…

Ersberg needs to get in a start here and there… If TM does not trust Ersberg, then maybe DL should make a call to Garth Snow and pry either Roloson or Biron for frolov. Biron only has one year on his contract, and he would be a very good back-up…

i think a harder, more determined effort is warranted, regardless of who’s on the ice…

for those above and others on recent previous threads agree with this…well, cheers!…all around…

t.m. always makes changes and tinkers with the lines constantly…this year, he has done it considerably less…why…?…well, success will do that…

i think it’s important to measure this team in groups of games…one thing that andy murray used to do (don’t know if he still does) when he coached here was to segment the season in blocks…usually 10 games…it seemed to work very well with his teams…if you remember, most of andy murray’s teams were not short on daily effort…talent/development was often the culprit on lines 2-4 during those years…

so by going by the ol’ murray’s standards (andy), we are in very good shape…of course, there’s tons ‘o’ room for improvement in some areas…but i wouldn’t make wholesale changes just yet…

i like the idea of getting jones in there and giving ersberg a start…i don’t see these changes a big deal…

what i would like to see is frolov on a line with brown and stoll or zus…i like CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC’s idea…it could work…

parse has been nothing short of great since his call up…he’s doing the job…t.m. has shown a great desire to implement parse in many situations during the last few games…i’m not saying that’s unwarranted…parse has been exceptional on many shifts…but he’s still a rookie and i can’t tell how much of this is adrenaline…i’m still waiting to see some drop off…to his credit, parse has been good enough to get some of those money shifts…and there’s been no drop off…but there’s also been no goals…so i can see a more structured situation for parse in the upcoming week…

The changes I possibly see coming are:
    1) Ivanans sitting out a game..maybe?!?
    2)Obviously ersberg
    3) Frolov with Purcell(should have been since day 1)
    4) perhaps Parse on the 4th
    5) Stoll off the PP

4)Agree (Hasn’t put up any points lately but he’s working his tail off)
5)No opinion. Haven’t really thought about it that much.

Why panick after two losses? Putting ersberg in now when the team is playing average would be a mistake. You would want to put him in on a back to back game when the team is winning…

I don’t believe major changes are warranted at this point, if the game against carolina is lost. Then maybe but it’s only two losses and an overhaul already?

We need to see if this is trending into a mini slump or the team just needs a little shakeup to right the ship Nas – was a disaster but no shame in losing to Hawks at united ctr – we had our chances – thought we skated well and just got caught on some bad breaks – thought the hawks got the benefit of the doubt from zebras on a couple calls in the 1st and 2nd – huet was better than JQ – I still like WS on 1st line because of his nasty – stoll -JW-fro/ then Zues – brown – purcell – parse on 4th line with richardson- ivanans- or whoever-

    Jumping Shrimp,
i meant to say 5)Stoll off the pt on the pp. As the season gets on, it will burn us at key times… there is a reason why most teams do not do it…

    Sev,
Johnathan Quick ain’t Brodeur Nabokov or Luongo. Ersberg has played just one game… That in itself is a big mistake.
IMO, he should have played 3-5 games thus far already.
Let’s see how he does and it will give Quick a much deserved break. then we can let Murray play him another 9-10 in a row???

    JT Snow,

cannot agree with you on this one. One of the clear coaching mistakes previous coaches used to do is to go back and forth between goalies with no clear number one. Quick allowed 4 goals against chicago but the games was not lost because of goaltending, had the kings scored 3 goals and played some better offense, the game could’ve finished differently.

    I do not agree with:
    1) Shaking things up and making changes because we lost a couple of games. We cant win every game!!!
    2) Putting in the backup goalie when the team is on shaky ground (i.e. 2 losses in a row). This is as much a mistake as when the decision was done to play ersberg when the team was a winning streak.

There will be times for lineup tweaks and ersberg starts during the season. This is NOT the time for either. :)

I’ve been calling for Ersberg since before the consecutive shootout losses.
Giving a #1 goalie the full reigns when it is not deserved is A) not good for his development
    B) not good for the team
Ersberg deserves atleast 20% of the games ATLEAST!
