Monday morning skate

Based on circumstantial evidence, it seems as though Jason LaBarbera might get the start in goal tonight for Phoenix. The starting goalie is typically the first one off the ice after a morning skate, and today that was LaBarbera. But no confirmation on that.

For the Kings, they’re expected to skate as they have in practice, with Justin Williams returning from his five-game absence due to his “lower-body injury.” Williams stopped short of saying he was 100 percent but said he was ready to return.

WILLIAMS: “Well, nobody is 100 percent in here. It’s good enough to play the game of hockey tomorrow. I feel good. I’m excited. I only missed seven days but I missed five games. It was tough. That was frustrating, to miss a lot of games. It sucks when you’re out and the team’s not doing well, because maybe you push yourself before you’re ready. I was able to get myself ready. I had two good practices under me.”

Asked about rejoining the top line, Williams joked, “Well, Kopi is in a little slump now. It’s been two games. We can’t have that, so I told him we’d get him going.”

I like Willy’s attitude. He’s a gamer, all right. Very glad to see him back in the lineup and with Smyth and Kopi still, despite the popular sentiment around here.

Looks like Lababera is in goal. Leftwinglock has them confirmed with the Coyotes website as the source:

You guys are crazy if you want LaBarbara in net. Any real Kings fan knows that judging by past history, Babs will play like an all-star and shut us out.

  9. Quisp says:

Be careful wishing for JLB to start. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he shut us out. I wouldn’t be surprised if he sucked either. But those “playing the old team” games can be volatile.

You took the words right out of my mouth…Labs will be extra motivated!

The only way were getting one by Labs is if the Yotes put one in themselves or Super Kopi shows up tonight.

    Exactly….

Be careful what you wish for as labs can be in a zone tonight and win in a shootout. Imagine that!

Bob and Quisp are on target. When JLB is on his game, he as good as any top Goalie in the NHL. His issue is and always has be consistency.

The real question is, who is the scariest Jason of all?

  16. And oh yeah, as for “extra” motivation. Think of playing the Kings as added pressure… the thing LaBarbera could never handle.

Hey, who’s that in the pic in the upper left hand corner and what has he done to Rich Hammond!!

  19. Jam, I thought we played him while with Vancouver as well, but I looked up his game-by-game stats and I didn’t see and games with Vancouver vs. the Kings.

Looks like the “Turd” did okay. As for LaBabs…he cracked under the pressure. :-)

It was the first time he’s faced the Kings.
