Murray postgame quotes

(on winning on the road in the first of a back-to-back set…) MURRAY: “Yeah, in a very difficult building, against a team that has played well since the start of the year. We saw them in the first game and they showed a solid effort away from the puck. They were really skating and again, [...]

Stoll postgame quotes

Quotes from Jarret Stoll, who had his first two goals of the season tonight. Stoll stopped by, as he boarded the bus, to add that he wanted to give Scott Parse credit for making a great pass, in his first NHL game, on Stoll’s second goal.. (on his game…) STOLL: “You always want to contribute [...]

Simmonds postgame quotes

Quotes from Wayne Simmonds, who scored his fourth goal of the season tonight… (on playing like he doesn’t want to come off the first line…) SIMMONDS: “(laughs) Definitely. Obviously I love to play with those guys, but I think Willy (Justin Williams) will have something to say about that when he gets back in the [...]

Kopitar postgame quotes

Postgame quotes from Anze Kopitar who, with three assists, now leads the NHL in scoring with 19 points, two ahead of Alexander Ovechkin, who had one assist tonight… (on his game thoughts…) KOPITAR: “I thought the first period was kind of in between. We had some chances and they had some chances. They scored that [...]

FINAL: Kings 5, Phoenix 3

Dustin Brown’s empty-net goal counted, and the Kings got the win. More from the locker room…

Kings 4, Phoenix 3

And now it’s a game again. Ed Jovanovski made a nice pass to Shane Doan, who split two defenders, beat Jack Johnson to the net and gave the puck a little push past Jonathan Quick, who appeared to be trying to poke the puck away. The goal came with 7:30 remaining in the third period.

Kings 4, Phoenix 2

Wayne Simmonds, alert in front of the Phoenix net, picked up a loose puck and beat Bryzgalov 9:12 into the third period. Anze Kopitar cycled — and picked up his third assist of the night — and Sean O’Donnell sent to the puck to the net, where Simmonds pounced on it for his fourth goal [...]

Kings 3, Phoenix 2

Scott Parse gets his first NHL point, and Jarret Stoll gets his second goal of the game. Parse came down the right side on a 2-on-1, faked the shot a bit and then passed across to Stoll, who cut to the front of the net and tucked the puck behind Bryzgalov 2:16 into the third [...]

End of second: 2-2

The Coyotes are outshooting the Kings 24-12…

Kings 2, Phoenix 2

The lead didn’t last long, as the Coyotes tied the game 1:18 after the Kings took the lead. Jarret Stoll’s clearing attempt failed, the Coyotes kept the puck in the zone and Radim Vrbata took a nice pass down low and sent the puck over a diving Jonathan Quick.

Kings 2, Phoenix 1

The Coyotes’ run of penalties finally hurt them, as the Kings scored a 5-on-3 goal. Anze Kopitar made another nice pass, this one from the right circle, to Jarret Stoll, whose one-timer from the top of the left circle beat Bryzgalov with 5:36 left in the second period. Drew Doughty also got an assist.

Kings 1, Phoenix 1

Anze Kopitar doesn’t just have the scoring touch this season… With the Kings on the power play, he did an excellent job of driving to the net, then fed an even better pass across the crease to Dustin Brown, who basically just had to tip the puck into the net. Ryan Smyth also got an [...]

End of first: Phoenix 1-0

Shots were 11-4 Phoenix in the period. Not many chances against Bryzgalov for the Kings…

Phoenix 1, Kings 0

The Kings failed on their first power play — they didn’t record a shot — then were unable to clear the zone on a Phoenix power play. Robert Lang spun and shot, and Jonathan Quick made the save, but the rebound bounced to Quick’s right, where Shane Doan, all alone, pounced on it for a [...]

Hickey scratched, not hurt

Since there seems to be a Manchester theme to the day… Thomas Hickey was a healthy scratch from tonight’s game. Ron Hextall said, via text, that Hickey “has struggled and is trying too hard.” Hickey, a 2007 first-round pick, has one assist and a plus-1 rating in eight games this season.

Second look at Coyotes

The Coyotes haven’t let up much since they smashed the Kings 6-3 on opening night. They’re off to a 6-2 start, a credit to new coach Dave Tippett and the team’s ability to ignore the ownership mess here in Phoenix. The Coyotes have won four consecutive games and are coming off a 3-2 overtime win [...]

Lewis out again

Trevor Lewis will be a healthy scratch tonight, for the sixth time in 11 games this season. Lewis is without a point this season, but Terry Murray indicated that he’s looking for more from Lewis. MURRAY: “He’s getting better. He was better than what he was in the Columbus game. I thought his game in [...]

Frolov's `focus'

Terry Murray spoke, fairly extensively, about Alexander Frolov after Thursday’s game, but addressed the subject again Saturday morning when asked if there were certain parts of Frolov’s game that he would like to see duplicated tonight. Frolov, who had two assists Thursday, will certain on a line with Michal Handzus and Dustin Brown. MURRAY: “Absolutely. [...]

Murray's meeting with Quick

As he said he would, Terry Murray met with goalie Jonathan Quick after Friday’s practice. Quick earned the overtime victory over Dallas on Thursday, his sixth win of the season, but allowed four goals on 21 shots, including three third-period goals that allowed the Stars to erase a 4-1 deficit. Murray previously said that he [...]

Williams update

The minor, mysterious “lower-body injury” that was supposed to only sideline Justin Williams for one game has now extended to two games, and probably three. Terry Murray said today that Williams is “questionable” for Sunday’s game against Columbus but would be back Wednesday at San Jose. We’ll see… MURRAY: “When this happened the other day, [...]
