Jones note

A couple other things on the Kings’ pickup of Randy Jones…

It happened largely because of how the Kings finished last season, which was with the fifth-worst record in the NHL. A player on re-entry waivers is available to teams based on the inverse order of the standings. Before Nov. 1, however, last season’s standings are used. If Jones had gone through re-entry waivers on Nov. 1 or after, the Kings would have been far down the list, in comparison.

Also, in mentioning that Dean Lombardi and Terry Murray have previous knowledge of Jones, obviously Kings assistant GM Ron Hextall does as well, having served as the Flyers’ director of pro hockey personnel before he joined the Kings’ front office.
