No scoring in the second half of the first period, but plenty of action. With about nine minutes left in the period, Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi upended Jason Chimera with a hip check near the boards in the Kings’ zone.
Chimera stayed on the ice for a couple minutes, and sustained a cut to his head. No penalty was called on Scuderi, but the Blue Jackets took offense, as Derek Dorsett went after Scuderi near the bench and drew a game-misconduct penalty. Chimera also attempted to go after Scuderi and got a 10-minute misconduct penalty.
So the Blue Jackets had to play the final nine minutes short two players, but they had an outstanding scoring chance with 6:45 remaining in the first period, when Rick Nash got hooked by Jack Johnson on a breakaway.
A penalty shot was called. Nash started wide right and attempted a wrist shot, but Kings goalie Jonathan Quick easily deflected the puck away to his right.
The Kings outshot Columbus 8-7 in the period.
Fasten your seat belts it’s going to be a bumpy ride. This has the makings of a 100+ pim game.

The national amthem singer tonight was outstanding, anyone know her name or have a sound clip of it?

Hey Rich, let Jim Fox know that the hit was shoulder on thigh, not clipping.

The anthem singer’s name is Lorelei Sinco (might be Cinco). She has sung at our home games for at least 2 years. She is getting better each year… more polished, more range, more power, and more dynamics.
I think she ought to do them all, personally, but since she is in school, that might be hard.
