Quotes from Wayne Simmonds, who scored his fourth goal of the season tonight…
(on playing like he doesn’t want to come off the first line…)
SIMMONDS: “(laughs) Definitely. Obviously I love to play with those guys, but I think Willy (Justin Williams) will have something to say about that when he gets back in the lineup. I’m just trying my best to fill Willy’s shoe, and I think I’m doing a pretty good job of it.’’
(on his goal…)
SIMMONDS: “I kind of just gave it to Kopi. Kopi rolled up and passed it to OD. I was just going to the net, hoping for a rebound, and it popped right to me, skate to stick, and I just walked around and it was a wide open net and I put it in.’’
(on playing with 100-percent energy but not making mistakes…)
SIMMONDS: “I’m really aware, aware of my body and my movements and exactly what I’m doing. I like to hit, but I’m not going to go crush a guy if I know the puck is going to go on to someone else and I’m going to take myself out of the play. I like to think that I’m a smart player, and that’s something I like to pride myself on. I think Terry sees that as well, and I think it’s working well.’’
I’m loving the chemestry with these 3

Simmonds is playing great! I liked him last year and like him even more this year. The Kings are scoring! Oh, how nice that is!

Simmonds is just a really smart hockey player. He is definately proving just how valuable he is. He is just one of those intangible players you need to win in this league.

Keep Simmer on the first line. Keep Williams. Keep Sully in Edmonton. That is all…

To call him “Simmer”,and not to compare him to Charlie, is a true compliment to his skills as an up and coming young star for the Kings, ya gotta love this kid !!!

Simmer has been kinda like an unsung hero for this team. He played remarkably last season as a rookie, and hasn’t missed a beat. And unlike Williams, he’s making the most of his opportunities on the first line, and is having a definite impact on Kopitar’s game. Six points in 2 games since they’ve been united on the first line isn’t a coincidence.

Wayne really IS a smart player, and did you see him stay on the puck….Great Pursuit!

Simmons is the real deal. He is prepared mentally every game is out there. This guy is still learning and we don’t know yet how good he will be. 20 goals this season? I think it is reasonable to think so.

Back in the days before there was an internet, computers, bloggers, etc… the Kings had a kid come out of nowhere (literally) named Dave Taylor, who squeezed through players along the boards and always seemed to come out with the puck. There have been more than a few instances, while watching Simmonds along the board, that the similarities are shocking. We can only hope, but so far, it really looks as if he belongs right where he is, playing with skilled guys, and creating offense game in and game out.
