The Manchester Monarchs won again, this time 6-1 over Springfield on Sunday. Corey Elkins, Juraj Mikus, Bud Holloway, Andrei Loktionov, Scott Parse and David Meckler had goals for the Monarchs, who led 6-0 and outshot Springfield 36-22 (including 16-7 in the first period). The Monarchs were 4 for 6 on the power play. That’s right, Mikus had a goal. Parse, Brandon Segal and Justin Azevedo each had two assists. Jeff Zatkoff stopped 21 of 22 shots for the win. Rich Clune (groin), once again, did not play for the Monarchs.
Bring up Manchester!

hey guys anyone know what the lines were for this game for monarchs..
[Reply]
I’d be curious to hear from anyone who follows the Monarchs if Hickey has been playing well. I see he doesn’t have a point in 7 games. Is he getting PP time?
I would have expected some offence from him by now.
Hopefully just a slow start.

Purcell, Richardson, and Lewis all belong in Manchester. We have enough soft players on the roster…
[Reply]
It appears that the forwards are scoring well in Manchester, and some surprise contributions from Bagnall, have kept Hickey off the scoresheet.
I’d be curious to find out how well Hickey is playing on the defensive side of the ice.
I agree that Lewis belongs in the AHL. Although Manchester is loaded at center ice, and current looks like they skate three scoring lines.
[Reply]
I like Bagnall. He’s a solid D-man, plays smart, physical, and even drops the glove occassionally. I would much rather have him in the line-up then Drewiski…
[Reply]
Different Coach……..Different Result!
[Reply]
WWAMD,
With the current lineup stacked with soft, heartless players, different coach = same results or worse results. No coach can do anything with this linee-up, except maybe finish at 500 or slightly above 500, not enough to make the playoffs
[Reply]
I beg to differ
U mean Simmonds, Kopitar, JJ, Ryan Smyth, Quick, Doughty, Brown, Handzus, Ivanans are heartless?
I don’t know…maybe Williams is heartless, u can argue with Frolov being heartless as well. But this team has heart, thats why these last few loses has cause them to react negatively.
[Reply]
Well of COURSE Juraj Mikus had a goal. He has ALL the goals. HE just chose to take credit for one.
[Reply]
I said it last year and i will mention it again….(doenst mean its good or bad, just an observation)The Kings takes on the personality of their Coach…..
[Reply]
Juraj Mikus’s goal came in his fist game, during his first shift, on first shot.

im a longtime Manchester Season Ticket Holder , the Monarchs have been off to a great start , save for a 57 second brain cramp in our loss on Friday to the Springfield Falcons where we gave up 3 goals in 57 seconds. To name a few… Bernier has been focused from day one and it shows in his play, Loktionov has been one of our top scorers , he is so fast for a young player , Hickey is getting a lot of ice time , he has been playing a steady D, but the goals have not been coming for him yet and yes he is playing on the power play , i have no doubt that they will tho … he proved that at the end of our season last year .

royalmonarch,
How are the stay-at-home D-men playing, i.e., Bagnall, Piskula, etc?
[Reply]
Khanon -
Bagnall is sloooooooooooow. Piskula is better, but still just a poor man’s Matt Greene at this point. With Greene and SOD doing the job Bagnall and Piskula do, only better, it really makes just about zero sense to add flat-footed pylons while subtracting Drewiske, who is so horrible that he actually leads the team in plus/minus.
[Reply]
Parse played with Loktionov quite a bit, I believe.
There may be some chemistry there-?
[Reply]
One thing I don’t understand (and this is not a criticism of any poster) is how little details like a change of a 5th defenseman or something would change anything. I believe the problems the team is dealing with go far deeper than that. I also agree with Neil, that most any team tends to take on the personality or at least an aspect of the personality of the coach.

Why in God’s name is Mikus not our first line center?

[edit #2] “Why in Mikus’ name is Mikus not our first line center and our second line center?”

The legend of Juraj Mikus lives on.
[Reply]
Quisp: Drewiske hasn’t been in any fights. Therefore, he’s a useless defenseman. Everyone knows you prevent people from scoring by punching them in the face.
[Reply]
Juraj Mikus’s goal came in his fist game, during his first shift, on first shot….
This is only true because of the way the AHL credits goals…in fact Juraj Mikus has scored every Monarchs goal prior this season, prior to even apearing on the ice, simply by controlling the actions of his team mate through the awesome force of his personality.
[Reply]
Great insight royalmonarch! Please post regular updates if you can.
[Reply]
You cant win big games with guys like Purcell,Richardson, Drewiske,Harrold,Frolov…
What was the point of getting Williams?
Anfd Stoll is NOT a second line center !

Erik K,
“Everyone knows you prevent people from scoring by punching them in the face.”
Classic! Had to give you due credit for making me burst out laughing.
Speaking of punching people in the face, you know who likes punching people in the face? Kyle Clifford. Type ‘Kyle Clifford punch’ into youtube to see a little video I made about Clifford’s love of feeling face flesh on his knuckles.
In regards to the topic, I am glad to see the Monarchs and particularly Bernier, doing so well. I wonder how insistent Lombardi will be on keeping him down. Will a slump by JQ and EE warrant a call-up if Bernier continues his play of late, or will it take an inj***? I’m not saying I think Bernier should be called up, he is where he should be right now. I do imagine he will get an NHL game or two at some point, and I am just curious as to what circumstances Lombardi is willing to entertain the idea.
Royalmonarch,
I had read that Hickey was kind of disappointing so far from some people who pay to watch all the Monarch games on their computers. They say he looks overmatched physically. Are they missing something from the TV feed?
And as for Bagnall, khanon, I’ve only seen him play a handful of times, but he was not very good. Physical, yes. But slow is right. He is Denis Gauthier without the veteran positioning and poise. And I like Gauthier.
[Reply]
I think Drewiske is getting a little bit of bad rap on this site. This guy has NOT played 50 NHL games. He is defensively responsible, skates pretty well, can handle the puck a little and did fight last year when challenged. He is also a solid citizen type who won an award at Manchester for community service. The point is every team needs a couple of defensemen likes this. That is why DL signed Scuderi. It is not Drewiske’s fault that he isn’t solving all the King’s problems single handedly. Give the guy a chance. He can contribute. Does anybody remember Charlie Huddy or Brian Englom? Both of those guys (and Scuderi) all won Stanley Cups before coming to the Kings.

Rich, is the morning skate open today? In Dallas and want to stop by.
[Reply]
DB6…it’s at the arena, so I doubt it’s open unless you can smooth-talk your way in…

I don’t know what the heck people want from Drewiskie. He’s playing GREAT! Solid d-man who keeps his position well. This year, against the Rangers I believe, I watched him make 4 consecutive plays around the net, stripping the puck twice and blocking 2 shots. There were 3 other Kings around at the time, yet the Rangers kept getting the puck and Davis kept positionally sound to help out Quick. Personally, anyone who thinks Davis isn’t doing a stand up job must not really be watching.
Bagnall had a preseason game in Phoenix where he took 3 consecutive penalties in 8 minutes of a period this year. I was surprised he wasn’t cut the next day. Obviously he was trying to impress the coaches, but all it did was make me think Ivanans was more disciplined. Quisp is right, Baggy is SLOW! No thanks. Sorry.
[Reply]
I agree Cynic…Drewiskie has been very good so far this year. It’s not his job to drop the gloves and get into a scrape just for the heck of it. He’s been a solid D’man for us.
Here’s a strange thought, but a guy I actually miss this year is Gauthier.
He played a ton of PK minutes last year and we all can see the difference in the PK this year..number-wise. Is there any correlation?
Also, the guy had no problem playing a hard nose physical game. He took some stupid penalties, but he wasn’t afraid to mix it up with anyone.
[Reply]
I think 44#Drewiske with 8#Doughty will be a hit for years to come!!
[Reply]
Rich, i didnt bother trying to sneak in, but i turned down free tickets from aeg after trying to pull some strings. Ill be on the glass in a grey practice jersey tonight by the kings offensive (2x) blue line if anyone else is in the building
[Reply]
I don’t miss Denis ‘The Neck’ Gauthier. Sure he could mix it up, but he did take bad penalties and I believe Drewiskie is a more sound player than Denis is. I’ll take good position over overbearing strength and penalties any day. The cap gain is a bonus too.
The ‘Double D’ pair of Davis Drewiskie and Drew Doughty I think will be a pair that we’ll see perky and stiff to play against for years to come. Everyone loves Double Ds. (No puns intended…..right)
[Reply]
Speaking of Gauthier, where did he go? I can’t find anything on him at all. Did he retire?
[Reply]
Cynic -
Gauthier is not playing anywhere right now. As far as I can tell.
[Reply]
Wow-
You’d think a Euro team or an AHL team might still want him. Maybe he’s done. Only 33.
