Players and coaches were satisfied with first period but Terry Murray said the Kings lost their way after Detroit’s first goal. Quick took the blame on that one and Brown said the Kings got away from their structure and game plan and probably felt the effect of three games in four days. Definitely not the same feel from the room, and from Murray, as after the loss to the Rangers. Quotes and notes to come ASAP.

Didn’t get to see it, but it’s a disappointing result. The next few games will really tell me if this is going to be a normal Kings season or a better one.

As we hop from thread to thread like jumping beans on sun-baked kitchen steps, a repost.
I apologize in advance…
To be angry in the face of a bad performance is NOT panic.
I don’t want to kick my dog! I type instead. In my head is the vision of a solid Kings team. That team has certain requirements. If my heart is in its hands, I’ve got the right to whine and moan when they throw in some stinkers.
True, it’s going to happen to all teams, slumps. But take in what just happened. At 10:00 am on Wednesday, the Kings slid into the New York spotlight with a four-game win streak and an excellent power rating. One bad performance followed another, and now all the hockey world is winking at each other behind our backs, nodding their heads:
Nothing has really changed in Los Angeles.
They can’t even come close against a weakened Wings team left with only Zetterberg on their top line.
Damn. I’m at work, and I can’t even kick my dog, can’t throw my drink at the TV, can’t scream at the kids. So I type with enough anger to stir the Devil himself.
I’m entitled, that’s what I think!

Please BakoCAkingsCondorsGuy don’t kick your dog, yell at the wife kick the kids, hell throw a few drinks at the TV but leave your dog alone.

Bako you are entitled and I’m just as mad and bitter as anyone else, but come on “nothing has changed in Los Angeles”? This is a better team than last season and we are better than we played tonight in my opinion. Look around you, we’re still first in the pacific, it’s only the beggining look at the Sharks and Redwings? Over all we’ve played better than them as of now, do you think those teams will miss the playoffs? Probably not. The bottom line is good teams are gonna have bad games. We’re only gonna get better as the season progresses. I hope…

The Kings played well in the first, and got sloppy in the second and third. They were in the game until the last few minutes, but got alot of bad calls from the refs in the second. That’s gotta take some of the wind from your sails…

UPDATE. The cyotes are down 1 to 0

They should fumigate the Joe after the refs leave the building.

-deep breath-
Alright. I feel calmer now.
-sigh-
Damn. It didn’t work. The best thing I can come up with is that this is the longest trip of the year, and it’s almost over. 2-1, 2-1, 2-4, 2-5…
I think we need more than two goals, most of the time.
I don’t like blaming the refs. Yeah, they may have blown the call but that happens on the road. Good teams make their own breaks.
The other thing is that I want the Forum crowds to get bigger, and the only way to do that is to win some games. Success breeds excitement, which helps bring more success.

Oh yeah, it ain’t the Forum… Staples.
It’s just my age, boys.

Very true kb.
I don’t see them winning enough battles during the course of the game. PK has been turned off the last couple of games and that has to be turned around before it becomes a theme for this season. Hopefully they can correct it before the end of the road trip. So far they have been frustrating to watch even in the games they’ve won. I’d be nice to see them have a dominating performance before I can even think about them being a playoff team. It’s early and hopefully they’re just getting the kinks out.
[Reply]
Tired of the kool-aid, we just aren’t an elite team yet. Looked like the same ol kings. Maybe good enough to be a bottom tier playoff team, but will be tough in the west.
Yes the sky is falling!

They should fumigate the Refs. Atleast we should get a fair shake against a non original 6 team. There two times we got penalties when the other team should have got them. The call on stoll was pure Garbage. I can’t believe the Kings let Cleary get away with that intent to injure on Kopitar. For those listening on Radio Cleary stuck his leg out for a knee to knee trip with clear intent to injure. One of the many uncalled penalties against the Wings. But I blame the Kings for not sending the message to the wings and the Refs that if they’re not gonna call the game and goon it up we’re gonna take things into our own hands. A hard hit, fight face wash something?? Nope nothing, team toughness was lacking here tonight. And one of the above would gave really turned this game around

can we get the comments flow….as soon as new story starts,a new comment area starts…would be nice if we could keep all the comments for game under one story???Thoughts???

The refs were HORRIBLE. Period. Changed the face of the game in my opinion. That call against Stoll was the most unbelieveable call I have seen in a long time.
Sure we made mistakes, not gonna say we didn’t, but the calls missed (Kopitar – which by the way, how do 4 striped men miss a play close to the puck on open ice?) and Stoll’s call caused us to miss time for us to get back in the game by having to kill penalties. Even O’ds was suspect, but could go either way. I’m much more pissed about the calls than our play.
I will say that we had a few chances in the third when we made some pretty stupid mistakes like Handzus not holding the puck in the zone when there was nobody around him. The Wings were out of position there and we had people in front of the net. Sad. That was a frustrating game to watch.
Gotta shake it off. Get some rest. Back at it Saturday. Hopefully we win the next 2.
[Reply]
I usually hate blaming the refs but they decided this one with the whistles, plain and simple.
[Reply]
I don’t know folks… we got a few calls when Brown and Stoll went down pretty easy too.
Cleary should have been at least a 2 minute penalty if not 4 or 5. Kopi didn’t touch the puck, so it should have at least been interference and at most a major for a dangerous trip.
Other than that, I thought most everything was a wash.
We lost some key faceoffs. Quick let in a bad goal and could have saved the 4th goal that hit him in the shoulder/arm. Hard to blame him for a point blank shot in the slot, but he looked “small” as he challenged the shot. He needs to come out “tall” and take up as much space as possible. We were also terrible on the PP and PK. The refs may have put us there, but we didn’t execute.
